Even though I'm 63 now and am starting to listen to this song again after quite a while , I'd still love to hear it again as i did the first few times when I was in my early twenties . It really is a special and unusual track which i have always thought was one of their best, maybe THE best , at least to my ears . Haunting and beautifully atmospheric . I still gravitate to these kind of songs, probably always will. Above all it's a potent reminder of myself in better days . I miss my twenties and so much more besides 😢.
I would not call myself a 'true' Duran Duran fan, as I probably am not familiar with half their songs. That being said, this was always my favorite from them.
@@GothicElf68 you'd likely be surprised...if you're familiar with The Chauffer, you would probably recognise quite a few of their songs, even if you didn't know who sang them.
@@rachelfafeita7816 That might be possible. I know the Chauffer due to my sister having the album. I also had a friend in H.S. who was a HUGE Duran Duran fan.
We are still listening to this brilliant song Sept 24 at our local bar, where the owner is a DD fan, fortunately for us it's on her playlist. I'm now 71 and still love it.
My now 11 year old son actually discovered this song. I was never a huge fan of Duran, Duran but I remember their more popular songs from the 80's (I was a teenager). Recently I kept hearing this song blasting from my son's room. The voice was familiar but it's so different than anything I've heard from Duran, Duran that I didn't make the connection. When I finally discovered who it was I couldn't believe it. I'm surprised this is the first I've heard of it. The song absolutely slams.
Rio the entire album is an absolute masterpiece of the new wave era. 1982 and just brilliant. Duran have only very recently gotten the respect they deserved decades ago for the wonderfully atmospheric new wave masterpieces they created - they were stupidly criticized for being successful - and the incredible level of each member’s musicianship (John is a phenomenal bassist, Nick’s keyboard work drives everything, Simon’s vocals are stunning, instantly iconic, and he wrote wonderfully poetic and beautifully strange lyrics, Roger = great very humble drummer, Andy on the lead)
It was late 80's when i used to listen to this addicting to mind song...😃 Now its giving me goosebump while listening to it now...Solid Duranies still..
Discovered this album working in kitchens and it is non-nostalgicly one of my favorite albums I haven’t lived through. This song capping off the album is on par with Debaser opening Doolittle. An amazing send off from an amazing band who created an amazing album.
This song didn't get much radio play, luckily I had all of their albums and this song quickly became one of my favorites !!! Along with the song Planet Earth wich you didn't hear on the radio either.... DD For Ever !!!
And say thank you for that my friend!. I'm from Argentina and I can watch the original video just one time on those times. Between yesterday and today, probably, I watch the video 1.000.000 times. Revenge!. Sweet revenge!. Kisses for you.
Yes!!! Never heard anyone say that. A lot of times the radio misses some of the best songs on albums, like you I have them all and don't listen to the radio for this reason. Did you see them in concert this year? Just did exactly 2 weeks ago and they,(All of them, Dom included) look and sound Awesome. Haven't been to a DD concert in many, many years and they sound just as great as I remembered, minus Andy of course.(will always miss him)
Planet Earth was a Single and was in the radio a lot, The Chauffuer was not a single. You have to listen to even The Seventh Stranger ... and recently Before the Rain
tall grass near my tent? this has been my favourite song for more than half my life, easily a decade and a half up until now I would have told you the line was "who's calling now in the twilight schematic"
It didn't get much radio play you are correct but they did name that tour the, "The Sing Blue Silver Tour" for the album the track is from called "Rio". Oh, and it is a timeless classic still being played on a weekly basis at almost every decent goth/industrial club that's actually worth dancing at! Yay!
I think I’ll have fun & learn this song 🎶 even play it on the acoustic bass 🎸 guitar. ❤😂🎉 As I hold love to thrive everywhere especially in prayer 🙏🏻 to you
By the way ,at the end of the song the voice says, who is now going into the twilight classiomatic 😊. One of DD best songs (my sisters all time fave song)
Seriously? They are part of the 2022 class of inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They got the most votes in the public voting (other musicians and current RHOF members use a separate when ballot when voting for nominees)
Why does this song make me feel like I'm in A Clockwork Orange ? Nevermind, should've played this tune for the End of Line club scene of Tron Legacy... Way to tank that one, Disney....It would've fit in nicely.
more than JUST color and shape. Who is calling now.... in the tall grass near my tent? I wonder what this means? specially the lyrics they sound poetic and symbolic in some odd way, to finish then the song with this strange monologue.
There is just something magical, yet dark and mysterious about this song. I have loved this song since it first came out.
Same. While Duran Duran was never my favorite band, I did appreciate their music. This piece, though, has always spoken to me.

Johnathan Davis does a good cover of this if your a Korn fan. Korn is heavily inspired by Duran Duran. ❤
Duran Duran - The Chauffeur
Out on the tar plains
The glides are moving
All looking for a
New place to drive
You sit beside me
So newly charming
Sweating dew drops glisten
Freshing your side
And the sun drips down
Bedding heavy behind
The front of your dress all Shadowy-lined
And the droning engine
Throbs in time
With your beating heart
Way down the lane away
Living for another day
The aphids swarm up in the
Drifting haze
Swim seagull in the sky
Towards that hollow
Western isle
My envied lady holds you
Fast in her gaze
And the sun drips down
Bedding heavy behind
The front of your dress all Shadowy-lined
And the droning engine
Throbs in time
With your beating heart
And the sun drips down
Bedding heavy behind
The front of your dress all Shadowy-lined
And the droning engine
Throbs in time
With your beating heart
Sing
Blue
Silver
And watching lovers part
I feel you smiling
What glass splinters lie
So deep in your mind
To tear out from your eyes
With a thought to stiffen
Brooding lies
And I'll only watch you leave me
Further behind
And the sun drips down
Bedding heavy behind
The front of your dress all Shadowy-lined
And the droning engine
Throbs in time
With your beating heart
And the sun drips down
Bedding heavy behind
The front of your dress all Shadowy-lined
And the droning engine
Throbs in time
With your beating heart
Sing
Blue
Silver
Sing
Sing
Blue
Silver
