First Story: As the DM said, the -best- scenario out of charming someone is them seeing you as their best friend. More likely than that is that they will view you in a friendly way, or at the very least not be hostile towards you. They aren't going to see you in the same light as someone they've known and trusted their entire life, necessarily, unless they're extremely gullible or the person casting the spell rolls super high; they'll just think of you in a more positive light, which isn't enough to grant something like a discount, but would more likely cause an effect like they'd sell it to you at a reasonable price instead of forcing you to haggle them down from selling something they've overpriced. That second bit makes it sound like OP is a DM in other games that isn't used to being in on aspects of the game, the way that he needs to know if other players are getting what they asked for as if he should be aware of every thing every other player has at their disposal. Especially if it was something discussed in private between the player & DM as sort of a surprise. Even if it was something the player had that they just hadn't gotten to use yet, it's not OP's business to know about something like that. OP kind of sucks.
27:08 I actually had a very similar situation happen in a game I ran very early on. The players tried to get a cheaper deal on some clothes, after it was established that they’d be very expensive and the store owner wouldn’t make them cheaper, they went to an employee and rolled pretty high, and I ultimately ruled that they could get them at a discount IF they got the materials and made them themselves and the NPC would aid them on their off time. I remember the player that rolled the check saying since I should’ve just given them the clothes, and I reminded them that it’s a living world and that’s not how people work. Yes, it’s a fantasy world, but in any world where an employee goes behind the owner’s back to give away free custom made goods, they’re getting fired and charged for stealing, and the average person isn’t gonna do that for a complete stranger who gave them a wink and a smile that they found kinda cute 😅😅😅
The first time I couldn't respond with Great when they say how you doing. The past two episodes have been such a pleasant light and needed joy for me this week.
Re AITA 3: to me, the Yap Hour is ESSENTIAL... And the other thing that's essential is for the whole group to be engaged in the same things at the same time. I might be in the minority here, but from a DM perspective, this *is* asshole behavior. I understand it, definitely! But rewarding K for roleplaying when the rest aren't paying attention - without mentioning any attempt to redirect those players' attention - feels super passive aggressive and spiteful, especially where you're giving K special magic items and leveling her far past the rest of the group. The idea of doing all this with another player at the table, and not making any effort to change the behavior of others in the group is total asshole behavior. It's a copout. You don't want to have a hard convo with the group about what issues you have with their behavior, and so instead you're rewarding the one person already giving you what you want. Frankly, I think OP's instincts are correct here. They ARE being an asshole, even if their reasons are understandable.
As for a second podcast/channel, maybe do commentaries on pop culture you can invite people from the community (trusted members of course) or friends or other possible interviews? Doesn't have to be dnd focused, could be valorant, arcane, adventures with food cuisine! Just a suggestion but you could call it "Eldritch-Pop-Blast!"
Second Story: As reasonable as asking the player above-table what they were doing and why their guy was being so disruptive, given that they're such a problem player in other games, I guarantee there is a near-100% chance that the answer would be some form of, "It's just what my character would do."
I'm surprised that you guys didnt catch the possible white knighting in that first story(sounds like Mags definitely sensed the ick at the end) that sounds totally in character for OP considering that first convo. Pestilent vibes 🤢
LARPing (Live Action Role-Playing) has a "not in character" symbol of holding up one hand near your face with fingers crossed. It's quite elegant and there are apparently many other hand gestures for things like invisible or other states you might be in.
Question!! I wanna do a submission for a Level 20 one shot I did with some friends, but idk how long is too long to write. Can submit the story, and include a shorter/cliff notes version to it? It was a very fun time and I’d love to share it with yall!
I disagree with your takes on story one. Bard with 20 charisma: I'm going to charm the shop keep and try and persuade the shop keep to give these items to me cheaper = nothing happens. Barbarian with 8 charisma: makes a thoughtful speech about supply and favors = gets a roll. I'm not expected to have the Strength to pick up something heavy in game or the Intelligence to remember some fact, but It seems I'm supposed to have the eloquence to use my charisma.
I mean, charisma is kind of inherently a trickier thing because strength is usually number based (you either can or can't lift something), but charisma isn't exactly the same. Especially with how DM clearly seems to be interpreting charm as being seen as a best friend "at best".
Ok but story 1 isn't that tho. Story 1 is I have charmed you, I in character said the item should be cheaper and the NPC who is charmed and therefore views you as a friend said no I am not reducing a price this is my livelihood. Yes you are wrote you shouldn't have to RP out the words you say as yes your character may be more eloquent than you. But you should still after applying the charm say how you want to convince them to get the roll, like the charm does not unlock a dice roll it makes it easier if you get it. Like of someone went I want to convince them that I can help fulfil their supply problem and maybe get a discount for this service or heck I would like to offer a favour for a discount then yeah you can have a roll. Saying I want to roll for discount doesn't work it would be like saying want to roll for ignoring trap or puzzle. And when dealing with ppl in social circumstances some ppl will not budge on things like shop prices at which point why should a dice roll be called when the action is impossible. Charmed is not mind control after all.

Can you explain to me why Character 1 wouldn't be able to try if they both had rope?
@@drowssapism well for climbing i would say you both climb one at half speed and at full if they have rope because climbing has its own rules. and yes you should explain how you stealth or disarm a trap because for example stealth has many elements are you sticking to shadows, are you trying to be silent, light conditions affect if you have advantage or not on the roll. For disarming a trap say a pressure plate having an idea on how you plan t disarm it would affect the difficulty and the risk of if you would set it off or not.
2nd story: the path of justice knows many elevations. Although op did not like the mud on their soles in the end, justice was served nonetheless :)
DAMN. Very, very well said.
