Totally agree. He's a master, and pulling off things that the legacy of improvised music has only strived for. It's so beautiful I wish other past pianists like Abdullah Ibrahim were still here so they could witness this too.
0:36 I love how he adds another voice above the melody but plays it so delicately to keep it from overshadowing the voice in the middle, such a simple but nice touch.
Mehldau’s touch and velocity control is of the greatest in the world. Independent finger control that is so hard to match cause of the sheer years of dedication it takes to get there! He’s a true master of the piano!
Just can't stop watching it. The simultaneity of his absolute perfection and the realization that I am a musical idiot adds to complete the experience.
Yes, and great melodies can certainly live different lives. Perhaps I was just in a receptive mood or maybe the exceptional performance, though never showy, I found it entrancing. I’ll look for other things from him
What I love about Brad Mehldau is how very deliberate he is with not only every note, but also with the sustain pedal. You can hear every, single note.
Stressed out coming off a long and crowded Tube ride after a busy day in the city, closing myself in a dark bedroom, and putting this on. My heart rate is at least 20% slower and my anxiety and exhaustion are halved. Just gorgeous.
So many years have passed since I sat in a little club in Hollywood shoulder to shoulder with friends to hear Brad and his trio. I knew I was experiencing a once in a life moment. The elegance and eloquence of his voice is so deep and rich with feeling. Rilke in his fingertips.
This one is the most wonderful thing I`ve ever watched/heard. I can´t help but keep watching/hearing it, over and over. Brad Mccartney is not any longer a human being, they are an angel.
0:23 Yes it is . We humans have many faults and weaknesses but we are blessed with something no other animal on the planet has : the ability to sense and feel eternity. And yes it’s in there my friend .
“WOW” is the only word I can think of to describe this incredible cover of this incredible song. I love the song and I am in awe of the musician. Thank you lots❣️🎶
It's like turning a crystal in your hand and seeing it how it catches the light.
That’s a beautiful image
Yeah exactly. He's like a jeweler examining a gem..
Very nicely and eloquently put, Sonortubelug.
Beautiful comment❤
What a lovely way of describing his playing.
He has such incredible control of dynamics among the voices. Breathtaking.
Playing a lot of Bach helps.
@@frednow Chopin, as well.
@@CWBellayes, due to the enormous influence of Bach on Chopin
Always glad to see Bach get the praise he deserves! @@frednow

His dynamic control is incredibly precise. 😮 He's one of the greatest of all time.

Yeees 🥺🥺🥺 I've noticed too! So delicate, so warming...

exceedingly pianistic in the best way
That's him showing he is a true heir of Bach
Just can't stop watching it. The simultaneity of his absolute perfection and the realization that I am a musical idiot adds to complete the experience.
Why would you be a musical idiot?
😂😂idem
Maybe find something else to do?
If you appreciate this performance you are not a musical idiot.
That continuous G was amazing considering everything else going on.
His playing is so inventive. His newest “I am the walrus” cover is pretty wild. Very little sustain, very minimal until the end. Worth the listen.
Well spotted
It is the piano version of the foot tapping of the original
It's impressive!
@@andcivitarese well the original also has a G playing through the whole thing!
The Beatles keep being resurrected time and again. Beautiful interpretation.
The genius of McCartney: so much texture and meaning in seemingly simple melodies.

He plays with soul, as if he listens to this beautiful song every day since forever.
Listening for the 30 or 40st time, cannot get enough of it. It´s like a blackbird in the yard, singing its beautifull chant
Like a blackbird singing in the dead of night!
As Keith Jarrett, this man is a gift, with such an inspiration for us.
Ok but how do you feel as @mountassirhamada?
As Chick Corea I agree, oh wait I'm dead...

Late 90s? I saw him in hollywood with Joshua Redman. Mind blowing.
@@JAYDUBYAH29 another great musician. He was with his trio - all stellar.
Lucky Man !
Rilke in his fingertips is like the most beautiful way you could describe what he does there!

This man is a gift and such an inspiration for us, pianists, as well as for everyone who like the beautiful music and sophisticated harmonies
Well said
Lovely simile
Sorry that was in response to the crystal image above
Being back here 2 years later. Brad MehlGod
Mehldau is a genius. Wonderful sound on this piano.
There's something magical about a song that works from beginning to end. What a source of joy and nourishment.
the chord substitution and harmonic playfulness is borderline perfect
Or perfect!
Oh Lord, Brad plays with his heart, smoothly and delicately.....from his emotions to our emotions....BRAVO!
Fantastic. One of the greatest living artists meets one of the greatest songs ever written. Thank you Paul and Brad.
When I was little, all my toys were under a Steinway Grand piano!!!!!The bass strings are a miracle!!!
Lucky girl! Did that inspire you to play?
One of the best musicians ever. And human being too. Loved his interview about Bach, very humble.
He plays with great precision and control. Slowly becoming one of my favorite modern pianists.
His left hand playing constant bass while able to dance like that... Wow.. and even giving accent on each touch.. wow
Just...wow! Thank you Brad, thank you Beatles.
What a lovely piece for the ultimate Little Chill-Out.
One could play this on a loop into Eternity !!
One of the best piano players I have ever heard live in my life.. His control over sound is amazing
Love his articulation and release of notes.
.. like that, yes .. releasing notes ..
Music is the world written betwen the seconds of time and pages of life.
What a wise and discerning definition!
I've listened to and played folk songs from all over the world, and I always come back to this one when I think of the best folk song in the world.
The control that he has on the volume of each and every note is unbelievable, an absolute masterclass if only just for that reason.
Grande controllo non solo del suono, ma anche delle frasi, la densità, la durata del brano. Veramente bravo.
Steinway + Mehldau + Blackbird - an absolutely sublime pairing, thank you!
add blonde with big tits and it's perfect
Brad Mehldau is amazing!! Thanks for your music, man!!!
Steinway=Love. Go, Brad, Go!
Best timing in the world. Amazing guy!

*It's eternity in there*
A glimpse of it, yes
0:23 Yes it is . We humans have many faults and weaknesses but we are blessed with something no other animal on the planet has : the ability to sense and feel eternity. And yes it’s in there my friend .
Very nice. I like how he takes a simple melody and makes it sound so complex.
Simple perfection!
Yes, you are so right. It is all that needs saying.
PURE DELIGHT. Lovely technique. Unmissable !. London Fan.
One of the finest jazz pianists of this XXI century. Mix of clasist and modern jazz blend.
Just a fabulous rendition of this timeless song. I used to walk my dog to this song on the headphones...perfect...Thanks, Brad.
