I guess the thing they need to work on is programming more of the shot in, but also, sort of bend the image in a way in post processing, that gives a more accurate depth perception… that would take quite the bit of processing hp tho, so they’d have to really really streamline and code it efficiently so it runs through a sort of, “mode” instead of processing. I guess make it emulate a bent lens that allows light to hit a censor at a really steal angle… or something like that anyways…

While this is a clever use of the technology, it’s actually very simple, established technology. The image warping and cropping is stuff a 1997 graphics card could do in real time (I had demo software that did that kind of thing, playing back QuickTime video on the surfaces of 3D shapes). This combination of technologies - a wide angle camera and image warping to create a bird’s eye view - is exactly what cars have been using for a few years now to create the bird’s eye parking camera view on the navigation screen, where the screen shows you your car and its environment from above using an array of cameras all around the car.

Why are videos being rereleased? This is not the first channel that I've noticed the same video released again this weekend. Odd.

They can actually add a feature of having a small box on the laptop where you can use your phone via your laptop when connected, it gives a flexibility to operate your phone while connected. I dont know how much this helps, but def ease up the life.

Thanks for taking the time to make this! I was positive there was no way it would look that good from that angle, it looked impossible.

Wait, what do you mean you originally uploaded the video too early (that was weeks ago)? It’s a Beta so there shouldn’t be an embargo, right?

Not that fancy. My parents have a car that does this - when you are parking it uses cameras around the edge to take the same steep-angle shot of the ground around the car and distort it into a simulated overhead view, so you can line up in the car-park boxes. Same distortions too. It's just a basic image transformation. I could code that myself.

i realized that this is how cars use wide angle lenses attached on side mirrors to make a overhead view of the car for parking!

Bokeh isn't really 'my jam', but it's a good functional feature to keep people from being distracted by random stuff in your background during a video call.

Bit of a gimmick to be honest. For the price of ~ €3k-€3.5k (16gb/1tb) new macbook air, one would expect an iphone quality camera in the laptop. In general the new macbook airs are way too expensive. Considered that on the 2nd hand market you can buy basic m1 air (new and sealed) for €900 an asking price of €1500 for the m2 macbook air is way too much.

If they figure out a way to make this work on Windows that'd be a pretty big reason to swap from Android to iOS. I've tried like 4 different Android apps on my phone which does have a much better sensor in it than an iPhone, but they just work so poorly that it's not worth it or are locked to a very low resolution.
