I teach English at a university (and also on TH-cam), so I sometimes like to watch other TH-cam channels that try to help people learn English. Just wanted to say that I think this video is very well made and helpful. I can tell you work hard on your content…it's really good.
Thanks Kat and Mark, great video. It will help a lot! Sometimes I get in trouble understanding english when the accent is very strong. So these phrases are very helpful.
Hi teachers 💌 i have started learning English by watching your videos. even though when it comes to speaking with someone whom I haven't known before I get zoned out. What should I do😢
I know it can be really hard, the key is practice practice practice and more practice. Practice repeating the same phrase or sentence again and again and again and again until you can think of it and say it like one big "chunk". For listening, try to listen to short clips again and again until you can hear every word of the clip. You can also listen to short clips at 1.25x or 1.5x speed. When you go back to normal speed, it will suddenly feel very slow and easy!
It makes me really pleased! I am grateful that you have created such useful videos for English language learners. What shocked me was that you read each person's messages and responded to them even if you could not be bothered. It is something I can not stop admiring; thank you for everything!🙌
Thank you! Could you do a similar one on 'I undersrand'? What would you say to show that you understand? Phrases like gotcha, it makes more sense, ahh, etc.
Hey dear teachers.. I'd love to say your way of teaching & your videos are really helpful for us. I just wanna say lots of love & thanks a ton from the bottom of my heart💜 Love from Bangladesh🇧🇩
The explanation is always clear as usual, and I like the review part even more cuz it matures my impression of all the expressions. Wonderful!❤🎉😊Thank you so much.
Good question! We often use: "didn't" because it is after the other person stopped speaking. Because their speaking finished, we can use the past tense. This is also when it's very noisy, the connection isn't good, or you are at work talking to a client or colleague. So you can also say: - I [couldn't] understand - I [wasn't able] to hear you. - I [didn’t] quite catch that sorry. BUT if you want to focus on yourself more, and explain about your own confusion, your own lack of knowledge, or make it sound like your own fault a little more, use the Present tense. Like: - Sorry, I still don't get it. - Sorry, I don't understand it yet. - Sorry, I'm still not getting it. 😕 I hope that makes sense!
Very necessary videos for practical use. Thank you. The question is off topic:What does this mean in G. Britain and America if a pedestrian is told to walk straight, then turn (go) left on A street? Is the person already in A street and going to turn left from here onto (into???) another street? Or is the pedestrian in another street and going to turn left to be in A street? For example, I've read in American english "Turn right on Long Street" means they weren't on Long Street and after turning they'll be there. But in England there are prepositions like onto, into (like "turn into Long Street"). Is it the same meaning for giving directions in British English and Am. English or not?
Good question, it is the same meaning in the US and the UK. The key word is "turn". When you "turn into / onto / down / left / right etc." you are always entering a *new* road. Hope that makes sense! 🙏
Huh is funny , in my native language it is pronounced without h:-) by the way, I liked you reviewed the phrases again in the end, it helps to remember better. Thanks!
They are two different skills, but it's very good to know different types of vocabulary, because some phrases are more common in casual speaking, while other versions of the same phrase could be more formal and used in written emails. I hope that makes sense!
"Infrastructure facilities" would be places like bus stops, train stations, pavements, pedestrian crossings, car parks, hospitals, fire stations, highways, - it's mostly things connected to transportation and essential services that every city needs to have to work well. So if a city has poor Infrastructure facilities, it's not easy to get around or live in. But if it has good Infrastructure, then getting around is easy, it might be a bit safer and more convenient. Hope that makes sense!
Um What Sorry, I didn't catch that I didn't quite get it Sorry, I'm not sure I follow I don't quite understand Could you clarify that for me? I'm afraid, I didn't understand Could you elaborate on this point?
I didn't catch that. I'm not sure I follow. I'm not sure I follow what you mean by that. I didn't quite get that. I didn't quite get what you meant by .... I don't quite understand. Could you clarify that for me? I'm afraid I didn't understand Could you elaborate on that?

Teacher, is speaking really affecting my writing skills?
They are two different skills, but it's very good to know different types of vocabulary, because some phrases are more common in casual speaking, while other versions of the same phrase could be more formal and used in written emails. I hope that makes sense!
Hello teachers! I stumbled upon the phrase "infrastructure facilities" in a book. Is this phrase correct? What does this phrase mean? Many thanks.
"Infrastructure facilities" would be places like bus stops, train stations, pavements, pedestrian crossings, car parks, hospitals, fire stations, highways, - it's mostly things connected to transportation and essential services that every city needs to have to work well.
