    I have been saving my salary for my own marriage, I haven't found the bride yet. A year has passed and my khums date has come, do I have to pay khums on my savings which I have been saving for a necessity?
    Also, my savings are still way less than the amount I will need for my marriage and will have to resort to seeking parents help when the day comes.

    Is Khums payable on money spent on:
    1) hobbies (travel, buying gifts, tickets to musuems, movie theather or other lawful gatherings etc.)
    2) Donations you made to various organizations throughout the year (whether Muslim or non Muslim)
    Are these expenses lawful to extract from total earnings?

    • @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy

      Salam,
      There is no khums on expenses that are within ones means if spent before the khums year. You can watch our detailed khums video for more specifics.

    As per your example, the $800 is remaining after khums paid... What happens in the 2nd year ? (how do you pay? Knowing that the $800 wont stay, but will get used up in remaining year but end of the year it may increase to lets say $1,000 ?) Should khums be paid on $1000 or should deduct the $800 and pay khums on $200 ? (Knowing that, the account had gone almost 0 but then it earned again)

    • @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy
      @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Salam,
      Yes the $800 is Khums free forever if it remained in your possession. If you spent this $800 during the year then you will need to pay khums on the other income received for the following year.
      If you decided to save the $800 in another account and spend of the other income received then there is no khums on the $800 but only on new income received.

    • @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy
      @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Also if the $800 went to $0 and you acquired new income before the new khums year, you will have to pay khums on the new income

      Salam,
      If you are not Muslim then the two shahadahs must be recited believing in Allah swt and that He is One and etc. And testifying that the Prophet Muhammad (s) is the messenger of Allah swt.
      In addition to be a shia one also must believe that Imam Ali (As) is the immediately successor after the Prophet (s) and chosen by Allah swt. And thereafter the 11 imams (as). (for more information you can follow our complete theology playlist).
      Obviously these proofs are between you and Allah swt and one must believe in them in their heart.

    Salaam, Money comes into my bank account at different times in the year. I spend the money at different times too. How do I know which money is leaving my account? The money I put in just under a year ago or the money I put say, 2 months ago. When it comes to calculating Khumus, how would one go about doing so? Jazak'Allah.

    • @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy
      @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wa alaykum assalam,
      One first must have a khums date. At the end of the khums date you calculate all the money that is unused and pay the khums rate. The money now is khums free and you don't have to pay khums on it again.
      So for example, My khums date is January 1st. I get payed and spend out all through the year. I pay my bills, I buy food and clothing. Next year on January 1st I have $200 left in my bank account. I pay 20% of the $200. I have $160 left. This $160 is khums free forever and don't have to pay khums on it a second time.

    • @MA-vv1yk
      @MA-vv1yk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IslamicLessonsMadeEasy Thanks for the response. If you put say $1000 into your account in December, it wouldn't have been one year since you've had that money so why would you pay khumus on it when January comes along.

    • @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy
      @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MA-vv1yk Salam, Some maraja allow you to have more than one date but it will be very difficult to count all the money until your khums year. If you get payed weekly then you may need 52 khums dates. But you will have to check this with your marja.
      One of the reasons you have one date is for easier processing. So even if you got payed 1 day before your khums date, it is due for khums in January. It saves one time and stress to follow it up.

      @@IslamicLessonsMadeEasy why is zakat being neglected while khums is being strengthened?
      This doesn't make any sense, at least in zakat we know who we are paying it to.
      While in khums, God knows who takes it.
      See how kamal al haydari is destroying the foundation of khums.

    So let’s say on January 1 my total saving for the year is $1000 and I paid my khums, left is $800, next year my total saving became $2000 plus $800 from the previous year khums so equal it will be $2800. How much should I pay for khums out of this $2800?

    • @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy
      @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Salam, you only pay the amount that khums has not been payed. In the given situation, the $800 is khums free as long as it stayed in your possession, even if you didn't use it. Therefore you pay khums only the $2000. To keep track of payed khums and non payed khums income, many decide to open two bank accounts to make life easier.

      @@gastperkaswaki5296 There is a difference of opinion on things that you don't use.
      Marja (a) - If they are bought with yearly income, they are within one's station and needed by them, they are not subject to khums even though it is not read or worn.
      Marja (b) - Yes, you pay khums if they were not used and if you had to pay khums on them, then you pay 20% of what the current market value is.

    is khums applicable on the profit earned for few months and you know you are going to spend that money in buying a new house?

    • @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy
      @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Salam,
      If the income exceeds your yearly necessities and your khums date comes then you have to pay khums. But if a house is a necessity and your first house some scholars have allowed to use that income on the house.

    is khums payable on loan , given or taken?

    • @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy
      @IslamicLessonsMadeEasy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When you take a loan, then there is no khums on that loan amount even if it is kept unused with you for more than a year.
      If you give a loan to someone, and if you can get it back on your khums date, then you must pay khums on that loan (even if you decide not to get it back due to laziness or due to good terms with the borrower, etc).
      If it is not possible to get your loan back on your khums date, then it is not wajib to pay khums on that loan on that khums date. But then you must pay khums immediately upon getting the loan back.
      However, if you wish, you are allowed to pay khums on your loan on your khums date even if you can not get it back.
