Today I reveal how I got all my guitars and what to watch out for when collecting on a budget. People always ask how I have all these guitars or if I'm rich. No, I'm not rich, I'm passionate and intelligent about what I want and how I get it and now you can be too with a little bit of know-how.

#anotherone dude you may be starting to recognize me cuz you keep blowing me away with your vids. you did it 3 times in this vid alone:
    1. Don't be looking for something specific, that's how you pay full retail. (I narrowly escaped this fate [Escape the Fate sick band btw ha] recently, bidding on a guitar on eBay. I got outbid and I'm glad.
    2. Take your emotions out of it/emotion is the death of logic (This hit hard for me cuz I definitely get emotional about certain purchases.)
    3. Treat people well. (It doesn't blow my mind that this is a thing per say, but it resonated with me anyways)
Again, keep up the great work man. Your content is among my favorite on TH-cam

Benny! Everything he says is true guys. Not only about the advice regarding not having emotions or preconceived notions when buying guitars, but also with regard to how he treats people. I know he's a good guy based on many interactions. He always speaks the truth and is generous with his time. And I can testify that my best deals on guitars fell into my lap because I kept my ears open and emotions of if it. My most prized guitar, the actual first PRS Singlecut ever off the production line, fell into my lap one day. I actually passed on it the first time I was offered it but when it came around again a year later, and at a lower price, I pounced because the price and timing were right. Similarly I bought a Collings I-35 Deluxe at a crazy deal because I wasn't necessarily looking for it and was open to it when I saw it. Now I play that guitar more than any other in my collection and gig with it. Anyway, thanks Benny for the content and the attitude. Good vibes bud. 👍

Facts.. when you go looking for a certain guitar you will hardly ever find a bargin.. also you wont find deals in guutar stores.. rarely anyhow. A bunch of years ago there used to be a chain guitar store in new england. Daddys Junkie Music. they would throw a guitar in the dump before taking 50 cents of the price. If they marked a tag wrong and caught it at the register, you paid for the mistake. or you didnt walk out with the guitar. I once say a Jem 7DBK there tagged as a Jem 5. and for $399... I QUIETLY bought it as fast as I could. Ibanez never made a Jem5Dbk... and not for $400!!! Getting oone over on that store was biblical.. because it never happened usually

I'm disabled and living in a nursing home in Miami. I made a mistake based on a Fender Squier lead II that was beautiful and not only the red and black sunburst finish with matching tortoise shell scratch plate (and the plate on the back of the trem)
So i researched the most affordable guitars that weren't cheap but, just as I was about to go through Sweetwater with the 45 dsy return policy, a rep sold a guitar out from under me (even though he'd promised to wait for my call until 10pm he didn't answer the phone at 8:30 and I contacted him the following day and he was talking 2 week waiting list).
I got in touch with a local shop and made arrangements to buy a Fender Squier Affinity SSS thinking I'd get the same feel but, its got to thin a neck profile and, it needs a setuo but, since it was more difficult to play from a hospital bed than i thought, i now have no desire to play.
Its in mint condition and I was looking for trading options so i can get motivated to play again.
This facility keeps all of money save a small personal needs allowance of $130.00 that I spend every cent of on the things these $hit holes don't provide so I'd need a straight trade , guitar for guitar.
I'd rather have beat up and playable than this guitar that might fit someone's hand's but, mine need a chunkier neck profile.
I guess I was just seeing if there was a way to do _something_ ? I maybe came to the wrong place but, I liked your video nonetheless and, I'll say this:
I bought the guitar in 2020 and, im so much better educated about what I want and I wouldn't make the mistake i made back then with the stimulus check money but, alas that's gone and I'm stuck with 1 guitar, no capital and the guitar (even with a setup; it didn't come with Allen wrenches) it's not even close to the Squier lead II I had to sell when I got sick in order to pay for medicine until my disability insurance was approved.
I subscribe to probably 10 guitar channels here on TH-cam and my love for the instrument is stronger than ever but, for numerous reasons (i was in a different facility before where I could call a woman who'd get me setup but, here! Their all far to busy .
My health has improved and im no longer under hospice care and my condition is emphasema (so singing is harder than it used to be 🤣) and, although I broke my back my pain is well managed so soon ill be able to sit in a chair but, I just want have that feeling that the guitar is calling to me to be played because there's no string continuity meaning the B is more difficult to bend than the high E and that's across all 6 so even if I could adjust to the neck profile I'm not out there anymore and, able to hang out and trade equipment with other musicians so unless there's a windfall in my life I'm just bitchin' I suppose.
Not about my health or living in a nursing home. I don't want sympathy, I'm cool and life happens right.
Bitchin' about the mistake I made... maybe I'll call the guy i bought it from but, although I thought i was suporting local businesses, i think the guys not that cool.
Another thing I figured out too late .
    Cool video brother ✌️❤️🎸🎶🙏

Same here, dude. I tried flipping guitars for a while and it didn't work out. Of the 10 or 11 guitars I bought to fip, I kept 7 of them. Although, I partially blame being lefthanded on this 'happening'. I had a very small number of potential customers...plus, it is so rare that I actually get to try a guitar before buying it that when I find one that I like, I immediately want to keep it. So yeah, flipping lefthanded guitars for a profit is probably not a good idea. hehe.

So another dimension to this, maybe he will touch on, once people get to know who you are if you buy or trade, you get a reputation that carries over to amp techs, luthiers, pedal makers and musicians. You start to have a wider personal market place based upon your reputation. You will get to be known as someone people go to for either advice on a certain area, collector of certain things, or someone who may be able to find something for someone. But everything is based on your character
It doesn't come from the amount of money you have but how you treat people. Your character and word are worth more than your wallet. I know a lot of friends who are respected that turn away good paying jobs because everyone knows that the person/customer/client is a D bag

@@TheNeuroticGuitarist Glad to be here! Going tomorrow to pick up a butterscotch standard Tele with maple board. Passed one up last Summer, it was tempting but not quite there. I knew there'd eventually be another, better one and it showed up at my local pawn last week. Finish is 98% flawless. All it needs is setup, cleanup and a jack nut and washer. Neck is great, just needs a 1/4 turn on the rod. Frets are perfect but can use a polish. New strings and it's better than new. So I already know what I'm doing tomorrow night. KILLER price, largely because I have a great relationship with the store and somebody defaulted on their loan halfway through paying them back. Too bad but I win! It pays to treat people with respect.

When I discovered you were Lost Symphony I subscribed immediately...take another piece is a beautiful piece of music......keep serving up the cool content brother and you're right about being decent when buying guitars, that approach has saved me a small fortune over the years.

Very inspiring story. It just seems second hand prices of guitars even average ones are now going up. We are all going to be dead a very long time so why not buy guitars for earthly enjoyment. My goal is to buy one very good guitar every year for the next ten years. In my guitar buying journey so far I have actually met quite a few nice people. It’s amazing that guitar store owners and their employees are really enthusiastic musicians and good people themselves. Quite different from other sales people you might meet in other industries.

It depends on what stores you're going into! I feel like the culture at guitar center has changed but certainly what you're saying holds water with a lot of mom and pop places. Thanks for watching and please subscribe and join the madness 🙌

All great advice. I agree to take the emotion out of it. Always wanted a Les Paul Artisan as I missed out on a deal back in the 80s. But it's not worth $7000 to me. So I keep looking. One other piece of advice I would give is to set a max amount you want to pay and be willing to walk away from a deal. Sometimes even $50 is more than you should spend if it's above your max.

      @TheNeuroticGuitarist  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Your right Benny!!! I took guitars that I had ,and traded up for something that was worth more a 1965 fender stratocaster. The Guitars I had were newer ,but the person who had the strat needed Money to help his daughter with school so I suggested that it would be easier to move the cheaper guitars than a expensive vintage stratocaster. He agreed to the trade.

Well said! I also recommend for people to simply SAVE SAVE SAVE for the guitar you TRULY want. If you have enough for a USA gibson but you want a custom shop gibson, simply save up and don’t settle with the 2nd option. You’ll end up regretting it later and lose money in trade/reselling. Save up for a used high end or if you really want a new one
