James was the first disciple martyred after the resurrection. The show is showing the gathering for Shiva and John getting eye witness accounts for his Gospel. It's a jump forward in time unlike the flashbacks they've done before

Actually that was James the brother/cousin/half brother of Jesus that was the 1st martyr. And I think Stephen might have been before him. There are 3 James in the Bible: Big James, Little James and James a relative of Jesus. Jesus was raised with James and Jude. They both wrote the books in the Bible. Big James & Little James aren't known to have written books. Jesus' relatives, James & Jude, didn't believe in Him until after His resurrection. James became the leader of the church in Jerusalem & was martyred for that. The other 2 James' went throughout the Roman Empire spreading the Word! 💖 All the desciples except John were eventually tortured & martyred for their faith & work. And John is believed to have been tortured before being sent to the work prison on Patomos Island. He was eventually released from prison & died of natural causes as an old man.
But I do think Big James was the 1st of the 12 desciples that was martyred. It's just that so many people get the 3 James confused. 😊

I took it as John was crying because he was hearing God speak the very words He said In The Beginning.

Shiva is a Jewish funeral custom - mourning period of 7 days. So yes they’re all visiting for James’ funeral- first disciple to be martyred. They’re trying to show how John is a bit worried about the same happening to them with none of their accounts recorded yet, so he gets on to take witness accounts during this time. And Yes beautifully connecting- the inspiration of some verses of John’s gospel.❤ Thank you for your reaction!

Fun fact. Shahar who plays Simon actually does come from the area of Capernaum...his accent is the real one used and he really can read and write in Herbrew.

I really like the way they used the story of Malek with the story of the good Samaritan, another little Easter egg of other scriptures, I love finding those.

John was inspired to start his book just like the beginning of Genesis - In the Beginning was the Word....

I think Jesus was kind of teasing John about his attitude against the Samaritans while the were looking at the scrolls.

Hi y'all, the beginning was in the future after Christ was crucified and after big James was martyred by King Harod, he killed him with a sword.

Nicole last sesson said that Samaritans only see the five books of the Bible the Torah as true scripture. The jews all of our old testament was valid.
