    That bobin case is a beast! Also, "It's JB Weld time" made me chuckle. Great work!

    I made a bobbin case for a Wheeler-Wilson out of a plastic teaspoon once. This video reminds me that I need to work on its metal replacement. 😂

      That’s called “pulling the rabbit out of the hat” in mechanics terms. Be on the hunt for something close in size, then manipulate it to fit.
      The feeling of accomplishment once it’s working, is kinda awesome.👍😎

    600 miles round trip? If that doesn't say that you are THE BEST, I just don't know. Smart lady. Even smarter if she sells that Kenny and gets herself a 158-1941. If you are reading this, m'am, it's ALL METAL. NO PLASTIC INTERNAL PARTS.

    well i just bought a 158. 17811 :( works great right now and it was just services so hopefully I don't have too many issues.

    • @randyyoursewingmachineman9954
      @randyyoursewingmachineman9954  ปีที่แล้ว

      Any issues that arise will be solvable as long as the drive gears are intact. If they haven’t broken by now, you’ll be ok if you stay off heavy denim and such.
      The gears that were defective, usually failed right away. Good luck 🍀

    Love your channel. Always so helpful when I'm using my Kenmore machines. Recently, I purchased a Kenmore 158.1813 for super cheap so I had to get it. I noticed under the top lid around the bobbin winder this black powder almost like dirt all up in there. Doesn't seem normal to me. Have you come across anything like that? I'm trying my best to clean it all up since it's on the motor as well. Also, do have any tips on cleaning up old oil stains? Thanks!

    • @randyyoursewingmachineman9954
      @randyyoursewingmachineman9954  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That dust is usually from the bobbin winder wheel being ground down by the inside of the hand wheel.
      It needs a drop of oil on the winder axle that spins the rubber wheel.
      Don’t oil the rubber area. It relies on friction to operate.
      Check the rubber winder wheel to see if it has a flat spot.
      If so, slip it off and install another one.
      If it has a flat spot, it will make a racket like you can’t believe.
      Old oil stains can be removed with some rubbing alcohol and plenty of rubbing. 😎

    Thank you so much! I’m servicing a 158.17820 that has the exact same bobbin area with the same problem of the feed dogs not dropping. I never would have figured out how to get that bobbin case out of there without you. Thanks again.

      If the gear isn’t broken, it probably won’t break if you’re careful.
      The defective ones are rare, but they’re usually already broken by now.

    Those plastic gears may still look perfect but at 50y old the plastic is now as strong as hardened cheese. It is waiting to break at the first machine jam. Would not bet on such machine, unless it's for sentimental reason.

    What are your thoughts on the 158.15150 or 158.1914? The 1914 seems to have a ton of external plastic but I'm told its all metal inside.

      If it’s a front load, 15 class, 158 series Kenmore, I’m a fan. Steel drive components will last as long as necessary. 👍🏼

    Hey there! I have this machine. The top knob that has the orange dot, button hole and modifier, it's bent in. The actual mechanism that turns. It still turns but how can I fix it so it can sit how it's supposed to? I hope I'm making sense. So sorry.
