I love your way of coloring the painting and the way you draw it. It is very beautiful and how you use gouache colors, not just markers, just a pen and gouache colors. You are so creative. 💗
Also from SA and loving your work. Its stunning and really well done as well as inspiring. I also enjoy hearing your thought process and the extra helpful tips.
I was amazed when you said that you have trouble drawing one way vs another. I always look up to you as the person who never has any struggles with art at all. I am sure it is mind-set. I also struggle with left to right vs right to left imaging.... but chalked it up to my dyslexia. I have over come several struggles in regards to that, so I will keep plodding along trying to over come. Thank you for a great vlog. You are so very talented and I look forward to more vlogs from you.
I haven't painted with my acrylic paints in a while and have only used White Gouache but watching your process made me want to pick it back up. I have some furniture pieces that I've already drawn the design on, and it is so fun. This turned out amazingly. Thank you for sharing!!!
Your statement at 7:33 speaks to me because as an artist, it is really frustrating to not achieve something from the art I make. But I still am grateful for the art that I can make as of today. Btw you captured Scarlet very well, I recognized her in the first few seconds of the vid. ☺
Everytime I watch one of your videos I think about how, here in france, from 1st grade all the way to 9th we had to get gouache tubes for art class, and no one ever told us how to use them, when I first saw a video of you I was completely shocked, I always thought gouache was just a crappy art supply nobody wants to use, but I just never knew how to use it lol Edit: to get the same tint to your paintings; I paint with acrylic but primarily with digital and in both I wanted to be able to not shade with black or grey at all, so I use dark green and dark orange to shade, I premixed those paints and just mix one skintone and then add either orange gradually to do the skin or add white and for the rest I add green and white I want to achieve a teal amd orange type of filter in my drawings so that's why those colors
this is so interesting because i have never encountered gouache in school, i think i feelthe same way you do with watercolors. i hate how its always introduced in schools and yet never taught properly (at least over here). i thought watercolors were bad art supplies too until i used the right kind of paper lol. great tip on the orange and green! i usually just use some kind of dark blue and orange for watercolors but end up just using brown and another tint for gouache!
I struggle with drawing faces from the left facing angle so usually I just flip the image so that I can paint it from the right angle…probably not a good habit but it gets the job done haha
Thanks for these videos, painting along with them is super helpful for figuring out my own workflow. I've been experimenting with using watercolors in my sketchbooks for a good while, but getting more finished results using gouache/acrylics and the like is much more difficult.
Another factor to the difficulty of the piece is the very simple, uniform light. The painting to the right has very dramatic lighting - it's soooo much easier to see the shapes and shifts in value and colour when the lighting is more dramatic! I also personally find warm-toned black skin to be easier to paint as it reflects colour and shines so much more dramatically than paler tones :)
Ok I totally saw Scarlett right when I saw the sketch! Good job on the likeness!! I think you did a great job captioning her. Sometimes too realistic and perfect is a little less interesting. So hitting a certian amount sometimes makes it more interesting. Idk. Love your work and voice overs are so relaxing!
You did an amazing job with that portrait because she's got all her face in light, that is much dificult if she got some shadows in it 👏👏👏👏👏 (Sorry for my bad english 😅)
I'm very much like you in the manner that I hold myself to a different standard than I hold others. If others do something that's fine, but if I do it I consider that I myself have failed.
your "painting over sketches" videos are my favorites!!! i draw people all the time and it's my favorite but i'm such a hesitant painter and usually stick to landscapes and you really inspire me to paint some more faces!!! i also struggle with drawing heads turned to the right, especially in full profile view! i just.... want them to face the other way haha and i think traditionally pretty women like scarlet are SOO difficult to capture- you came really close!!!! maybe her likeness is more noticeable in movement instead of photos? i've never drawn her well haha!
I love how this photo turned out. It looks like Scarlet, but in an old Hollywood glam type of way. What’s was the white paint in bottle you used to define the lines called?
You have one of the best styles on TH-cam. There are very few artists on TH-cam. Very very few. I can count on one hand the amount of actual artists I've seen on horrid and you are one of them. The rest are just salesmen that wouldn't make a pimple on the ass of an artist. I love your work and because you train your drawing skills your paintings improve along the way. I wish you great success.
I would love to know the colors you normally use! I’m looking to buy the same brand but wanna make sure I have the right shades and loved the way this painting turned out.
I have been painting with gouache for a long time and recently started watercolours. I think they are almost completely different, I just can’t get used to painting with watercolours.
A beautiful painting once again! Couldn't make out what exactly you did on 9:07 with a broader brush? Did you blend colours with water or apply new paint?
hi Ham do you still use watercolor? of yes, which brand and colors that you use most? i want to invest some tubes that are frequently used in doing portraits. thank you 🙏
Is there any way to give gouache gloss? I love the idea of gouache but the matte finish is not as attractive to me as say oils or acrylic with a varnish
It always easiest for me to draw people looking to the right, but when its like this case that is not 3/4 and also not looking straight its just impossible
The left side is way harder for me to draw. The eye will either be too small or the ear too big and I will only recognize it if I step far from the page to look at it.
May I ask if someone could write the name of the artist mentioned here? I'd be interested in looking her up as I like to add more channel of people who talk about their process with gouache, but I can't catch their name.
Drawing face from one side being easier is actually a handedness thing. Some angles are easier to draw when you're right-handed and vice-versa.
Agree!
This would explain so much omg
Yeah, I've been drawing for 20 years and I still have to flip the page or canvas to draw people looking to the right lol
@@itsarezoo yea, I just spoke about the face
Yea & how you speak is good

Hello from South Africa... Absolutely loving it,. The perfect way to chill so I'm painting along with a cup of tea.
Also from SA and loving your work. Its stunning and really well done as well as inspiring. I also enjoy hearing your thought process and the extra helpful tips.
painting with a cup of tea, thats brave lol! and hello from the Philippines!
Wow. It definitely looks like scarlet. My good friend from school has a daughter that looks just like her too. Great job
I love it SO MUCH that in the video describtion down below always is the reference photo you used!
How gorgeous! That was a joy to watch and very inspiring. I am so happy I found your channel and look forward to more :)
I can see the likeness. I like how captured the mood.

Your videos give me so much inspiration!!!

You really should make a lot of tutorial videos because your art is amazing
Awesome👏
I almost exclusively draw people facing my left/their right!!!! If they’re looking to the right my brain literally can’t process lol
que trabalho incrível! :D

She used Copic white.

The shapes and colors are so beautiful! I paint with oil pastels, but I thought gouache and oils would give a deeper coloring.
I am right handed and I have a lot of difficulties painting people facing right. It's like my hand blocks and my brain follows.
Lots of love from India 🇮🇳 ♥

Hello, first of all l would like to say that l love your art and can you recommend me an affordable gouache with which l can create such pictures?
so you only prepare one colour at the time? whats your idea behind that?
Is there any way to give gouache gloss? I love the idea of gouache but the matte finish is not as attractive to me as say oils or acrylic with a varnish
It always easiest for me to draw people looking to the right, but when its like this case that is not 3/4 and also not looking straight its just impossible
what video of chris hong's was it that opened your mind?:) I'd love to watch it as a fellow artist to see, and to see what inspires you!
she s VERY look like Scarlett!
I have trouble drawing faces in general, but especially when the head is turned to the left. I think it's just not my "comfortable" angle.
do you do portrait commissions?
The left side is way harder for me to draw. The eye will either be too small or the ear too big and I will only recognize it if I step far from the page to look at it.

Can I request to paint Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders. Please...
I can’t draw a face if it’s facing the left
Wait is it Scarlett Johansson???
