  • First thing to say; thank you all so much for your patience and it's great to be back!
London Northwestern Railway operate 3 of these 2 car diesel-electric Class 230 "D Train" units on the Marston Vale Line, a rural branch line linking Bedford on the Midland Main Line to Bletchley on the West Coast Main Line. These trains were former District Line "D Stock" trains that were subsequently converted following their withdrawal by start-up manufacturer Vivarail, however owing to Vivarail's recent administration, the units have been withdrawn from passenger service after 3 years until LNR can guarantee maintenance of the units, which was previously performed by Vivarail, with a rail replacement bus now operating since the beginning of December 2022 on the Marston Vale Line as a result... so join me as we experience the Marston Vale Line by rail and see why it's one of the UK's hidden gems!
    Journey Details:
Date of Travel - September 2022
Operator - London Northwestern Railway (a sub-brand of West Midlands Trains)
    Train type - Class 230 "D Train"
    Origin - Bedford
    Destination - Bletchley
Price - £5.50 (anytime day return, inc. Railcard discount of 1/3)

These trains aren't In service here anymore, mainly because vivarail went bankrupt, but they are still in service on TfW, and on the Isle of Wight in the form of class 484. It's fitting how old tube trains replaced the class 483s, and GWR have bought vivarail since they went bankrupt, so the 230s may be in service in other places

Such a shame its now a bus. I loved the trains and the journey and hope it can be rescued. I hated the concrete steps at Bletchley platform 6 and the staff did their best to assist.

It was going to have to become a bus at some point anyway because of upgrade works for East-West Rail. Now is a good time as any other. Although this didn’t take into account the current rolling stock situation that we didn’t expect to happen. The future is uncertain, I can’t imagine how they’ll resolve that issue

It's a shame that Vivarail couldn't have survived just a little bit longer as it seems finally that most of the bugs have been ironed out.
Perhaps if LNR can't come to some sort of argument to run the 230s that they can lease the 156s that have recently been sent for storage

I've been on the 230s a few times coming back from university before Vivarail went bust, it's a massive shame that LNR didn't take the maintenance in-house like TfW/GWR. Aside from being great little trains now stuck in limbo, the complete lack of rail service for a full year (by the time replacement stock is introduced) is really not acceptable.

Class 230003-005 are currently allocated to London North Western conveys a lavatory 🚽 🚻 is likely to be withdrawn from the operator by around perhaps 🤔 Wednesday 31st May 2023 at the latest and have the 3 x 2 car class 150s transferred from Northern Rail because the class 230s are probably very uncomfortable 😣 for rail staff and passengers use the trains 🚂 🚆 🚊. Class 150/2 can’t be transferred from Great Western Railway 🚃 because the operator are shortage of trains 🚊. Northern Rail will have the 3 x 2 car class 150s replaced by the 2 car class 156s transferred from East Midlands Railway 🚃 by the spring in 2023. By then into Thursday 1st June 2023, 4 different train 🚆 operators will have the class 150s by then are GWR - Great Western Railway 🚃, LNW - London North Western, NT - Northern Rail and finally TFW - Transport For Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. By 2025 Transport For Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 will give up ⬆️ the 36 x 2 car class 150/2. Not only London North Western has class 230s. Also it happens to Transport For Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 that they have the 3 car class 230s are 230006-010. Class 230s were made in the years between 1979 and 1983 over 40 previous years ago. 😃😀😄
