On the Fly with Ryan I am mostly focused on single hand skagit, as i have bought some opst lines and i can’t seem to dissect any thing from any informational’s about skagit. Maybe in the likes of which cast is used for what directions. i think it would be awesome to see it from a first person go pro view
Ah, that's OPSR Laser Line. It's friggin expensive for running line but it works great. There's a review on my channel and I just did another review after using the same running line for 3 years but haven't uploaded the video yet. Stay tuned

Oh that sucks. That's the advantage to using cheap mono 😂. I used Stren Catfish mono for a long time. Nice thing was it's so cheap you could throw away a whole spool and not be too worried about it

Well I'm bad at it 🤷♂️🤣. Truthfully that stream is pretty choked with overhead brush, and snapping upstream can get me into trouble. That's why I like a slow deliberate double spey.
Looked like a great day! I’m considering a 8’ 4 weight Redington Classic Trout. I fish water quite similar to where you Filmed this video. Can that rod handle Light Nymphing (12-20 size nymphs) with a small airlock or wool indicator?
Get it. It absolutely can handle light indicator nymphing. It's definitely a slower rod, but I think that makes it even better for water load casts and roll casts. The Classic Trout is a sleeper. I have much more expensive rods, but the CT is almost always what I reach for fishing medium to small size trout water. Fantastic dry fly rod, will set drys down perfectly if you do your part and it's surprisingly good at nymphing and even chucking a Skagit head. The best part is you can usually find one on Ebay for less than a hundred bucks. For me this is one rod I'd truly be lost without. If they all disappeared tomorrow I don't even know what I'd replace it with. I'll tell you this much, I shot this 3 years ago and today I'm using the exact same rod, reel, and line.
That depends, I'm casting average sized wooly buggers on a whimpy little 4 weight in this video but only because I'm using a Skagit head. With a regular weight forward fly line you'd struggle a bit to cast weighted streamers. It's possible but easier with a five weight and easier still with a 6.
On the Fly with Ryan is there much difference in a 5 and 4wt when it comes to strength. I wanna be able to have fun with smaller fish and i was tempted to go 3wt but i know that its not very versatile
Not a huge difference, but every little bit helps. The honest truth is if you enjoy fly fishing you're gonna end up with a few rods. I have 4 different 4 weights 🤣. I always tell people look for deals on Ebay and places like Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. Used rods are the only way to go. I don't think I've ever bought a new fly rod.
On the Fly with Ryan alrighty i’ll have a look at a 5 wt and then see where it goes from there. Do you know any beginner flies to tie. Trying to keep myself occupied during quarantine and so i bought some feathees dubbing and elk hair
@@maxmiko6122 A Clouser Minnow is easy to tie and useful. So is a wooly bugger. I really like small beetles and ants for trout and pan fish this time of year.

What kind of mono are you using? I’ve been using amnesia and it’s always in coils - I can never get it as straight as what you have

Do you think opst smooth 225 grain and a 5’ micro tip is good on a 5 weight 9’ Helios 3D?
200-225 should be right where you wanna be 👍. A 5 foot micro tip will work, you'll just have to experiment with depth and sink rate.
