My Top 3 (The Compelling Trio): 3. Abigail: Honestly, Abigail is how u do a heroic protagonist RIGHT. She's isn't as strong as the Ender Kings, but she still tried to save Ardonia. In the end, she never completed the last task. Not only that, but she also lost some of her Ender Knights, but she still saved Ardonia. 2. Inggresus. The exact same reason as this video. Plus Inggresus' human side was amazingly written. Killing the masters were too far as he can wait for confirmation. Even if they don't give him the primes, I don't think he'll be killed or tortured. He admits that he was wrong, so he's still a villain 1. Thalleous: He was good in season 1, but when Ingressus revealed Thalleous' actions, he becomes my best written character after I read the whole script. The fact that he is a hero on one side but a villain to another is amazing, and the fact that the show never had a conclusion about Thalleous' morality leaves the audience to decide if it's truly about right or wrong, or it's all about where u are born. Addition 4. Igneous 5. Achillean (The fact that he fought Ingressus even him being his "brother" is amazing)
Ingressus’ death is just so depressing tho I rarely cry at all but I couldn’t stop myself somehow Just too depressing The guilt of killing his best friend, allying with enemies and not being to save his people, also his him feeling helpless is very contrasting since he is such a powerful character
In my opinion, achillean has a really good backstory, while his character doesnt have too many powerful moments, most people only look at the deathsingers side of the story, because thats the pov we are shown in the script, but his story is just so sad, if youve had a long term childhood freind that you dont leave behind, and are still freinds out of childhood, and then all the sudden you suggest something to them, like entering a tournement for a war, I know thats an oddly specific reason, theres no reason its that specific, it just is, but then after you tell them that, they go rouge and kill world leaders, and then try to kill the leader of your home, but then you stop them, and then spend the rest of your life having to lead an army against him, and then being killed by him, its traumatizing, he has a really good backstory that everyone overlooks, thats why in my fanmade series I have him as a main character to explore his character more, there is a lot of potential with his character, like having a scene where senn finds him crying, that would be unexpected, because its the legendary tidesinger. so yeah, a lot of potential.
42:00 this really sums up my feelings after watching this video After trying to write of fanfic that I kinda just lost motivation for, I haven't touched on the serious much at all, outside of listening to the soundtrack ever now and again. I still definitely would've considered myself a 'fan', but in the back of my head I figured it probably wasn't really as good as I'd remembered it as being back when I first watched it. This video's really reminded me of all the best parts of the series, and honestly I couldn't be more hyped for KoA's version of season 2 than after seeing this.
Me hyping in my seat reading the Necrolord’s reveal as a Voltaris thinking he’s gonna get a whole bunch of importance: Pythus a good 10 seconds later: *”Sike.”*
I think David said in one of his script reading videos (before they were taken down) he said he was planning on rewriting Allister since he also didn't like how they had written him up in the story.
I think i have the script reading videos you're speaking about if your interested. They aren't the best quality, but their helpful for checking the lore.
@@Avalon6001 yeah I would like to have those videos if you have them, I don't really mind if the visual quality isn't that good I mainly just need the audio
Glad you point out some of the cliche moments such as Alister's characters. Some of the stuff needs to be reworked or something. Alister should have a likeable personality or some charm in him, but show some subtle signs of his dark nature. Wish Tygren has more screentimes and be a main antagonist for Senn's arc. Maybe Necrolord escapes Pythus and has a redemption/retribution arc of some sort. Some of the fight scenes should be better written and the heroes shouldn't be constantly bodied. During the event of Sendaria burning, Senn should find a wounded Ria and they escape together.
In addition to some of the stuff: Achillean should have some internal crisis and blaming himself for the events as he encouraged the Deathsinger to join the tournament. I cannot say much about Senn tho. Masani's arc could've been extended. Lucidius should have a background and be Tygren's partner. Ria should travel with Thalleous or like I said earlier, she escapes with Senn, badly injured.
Tygren is one thing that really annoyed me. He really is a missed opportunity. As soon as Ingressus came in, David basically pushed Tygren aside which is a shame. I hoped for a more interesting dynamic between Ingressus and Tygren. Me personally the way i saw tygren and Ingressus was like Caesar and Koba from Planet of the apes. Ingressus and Caesar are two characters who have seen the horrible sides of their enemies but also the goodness, they are characters who are willing to do what they must to defend their people even if it meant killing. Koba and Tygren are characters who have seen only the worst of their enemies, letting their hatred corrupt them and care less about trying to save their people but rather destroying their enemies. Tygren and Ingressus are so similar but also so different and it’s just sad to see him sidelined in the later seasons That’s the way i see it atleast
To be fair though, Allister's character was going to be overhauled completely, so maybe he would have been a tad bit better? But then again, I doubt it would have made that much of a difference
It would’ve been better for sure, in fact a lot of the flaws in the script would have been fixed in an overhaul, just sucks that David had to cancel the series before that could happen.
@@PosiDoesMore Also, I happen to personally agree with you regarding Achillean's ranking. A lot of ppl are crazy over him and all, but his innocence and 'morality' aspects are a bit over-exaggerated imo
That’s not my problem with him, I just don’t like how he meanders about the whole time and barely contributes anything to the story as an individual until his death
Pythus is quite underrated as a character and not the most well written I will say that, but he does have quite a similar mindset to someone like tygren and I’m pretty sure pythus is meant to be a foreshadow of a much more cruel and powerful version of tygren, I do generally like pythus, from the looks of it he is a very badass character but could use with some work and remember the script for songs of war weren’t perfectly polished either they were just meant to be used as something the writers would work off of and give us an understanding of how the story would’ve gone like so if S2 and S3 would’ve been actually made pythus would’ve probably been changed up a bit to make more of a bit more interesting villain but I do have to say his fights in the script were quite epic especially with the death singer and Xan I would’ve wished we saw it in full animation but it is what it is.
You make good points, but there were a few characters I feel are really underappreciated on this list 1. Zulius (NR) - He was only around for a few episodes, but I love his heroic vow at the Ardoni council meeting. He is a bit mean to Hubris, but I think they have an interesting dynamic - fighting for the same cause but have disputes about how to go about it, and Hubris ended up being right. I feel they kinda wasted a good character by killing him off so soon. I don't like it in general when writers kill characters off (I liked SoW despite all the deaths, not because of them), but this was especially bad because it left him underdeveloped. Still, I think it's shown he has a really good heart, and he is also the only major Kaltaris character in the whole thing, so it sets him apart a bit. 2. Almrak (NR) - I really like Almrak because he goes against the previously established notion that all Voltaris are villains. Even though the Deathsinger is already shown to have some justification, he is definitely committing several atrocities. Almrak is kind to Senn and informs him more about his past - things that Thalleous either didn't know or didn't reveal. Again, he isn't a super significant character, but he really makes a big impact on how Senn - and the reader - view the Voltaris. 3. Borgen (25) - Beyond his dynamic with Igneous in season 2, I also really like how he shows up again in season 3 and starts helping the KoA. He shows sympathy to Senn when revealing to him about Igneous's death, and is the first one to suggest naming a mountain after him to do him justice. He's also the only Magnorite we see who survives the play, so I can see him becoming a prominent figure in Ka'arthen politics after the events we see. 4. Masani (24) - I really like how her shyness is depicted, as it makes her a relatable character, and it also adds a bit of mystery to her character in season 2. It's clear she intends well but it makes you wonder if something happened in her past. In season 3, this is confirmed, as she reveals she has been banished from Felden and separated from Lira. I agree Lira is most likely her partner, and I like how, despite how little we see of Lira, it is clear how much they care for each other.
Wow. I think I’m gonna see Ria in a new light after this video. At first I didn’t pay much attention to her development and behavior, but then I realized maybe she isn’t as good of a character as I thought. Her leading capabilities and combat capabilities are not that great when compared to her supposed parallel-- Achillean Nestoris. Nooo you said Achillean Nestoris is boring I'm gonna dislike-- jkjk, what you’ve said about him is right, he *is* sorta bland in SoW, and I really, really wish we got more of him. A lot of wasted potential, really. (thought of that mother ignoring kid drowning in a pool meme, with Ingressus being David's favorite child and the other characters are drowning in the pool) Perhaps Achillean could’ve gone on self-destructive and self-blaming tendencies because he was the one who convinced Ingressus to go to the tournament. Maybe Achillean believed he indirectly triggered the events of the First Great War, which would cause Achillean, out of his guilt, to become self-sacrificial to stop Ingressus, even over-exerting himself to save the world from what he thought were the consequences of his mistake. Achillean has a strong sense of morals (compared to other KoA members) and abundant experience and HE SHOULD SHOW IT!!! There should be more moments like Battle of Meridian where we could see his leading capabilities. As seen in the battle of Meridian, he openly mourns about the deaths of KoA members and shows a considerable amount of compassion. He is a veteran who knows the cost of war. Finally, I wish Achillean would be ranked higher though, given that he was supposed to be Ingressus’ foil in some way… Maybe because I see him in colored lenses it’s harder for me to see his flaws, especially with my love towards heroic characters with a strict moral compass :D. In the end, take my comment with a grain of salt.
One thing i hate about onyx and masani is, that they feel like filler characters, even their deaths in my opinion weren't sad at all, especally onyx's death
