Bob, PLEASE GET WELL SOON! OMGosh I can't believe you're still doing videos while you're in hospital for a cardiac emergency. You are so loved and treasured. You still care for others while you're in a urgent situation. Tim, thank you for adding your experience and encouragement. We are praying for your speedy recovery and stable wellbeing. Thank you for being out there for all of us. ❣️🙏🏾
FYI: If you call customer service of a Walmart, you can request a motorized cart be brought out to you in the parking lot. Hope this is helpful. Most stores with their own parking will do that for you.
I broke my foot and could not walk or drive for 2 months. I used my emergency fund to rent a one-level Airbnb with a ramp for one month (I live in a 226 sq ft yurt off-grid, so not a vehicle, but with a lot of the same types of challenges since I don't have a regular kitchen, bathroom, laundry, etc.) It was isolating and hard, but, unlike my yurt, the Airbnb was in a location where I could have groceries delivered and get an uber to drs appts. I was so glad I had that option because it allowed me to avoid taking the risks that living my usual lifestyle would have required. I was scared about how I was going to do my healing all on my own, but I made it through and I learned a lot.
@@DisabledNomads My two ablations lasted about 3 years each. I had the Watchman device procedure so I don't have to take blood thinners just a baby aspirin.
Bob, by now you're probably out of the hospital. Thank you for sharing with us. You and all the van lifers and everyone with medical issues of any kind are in my prayers!
I share your sentiments towards Bob’s continued recovery! I don’t know what many of us would do without his vast wisdom & support for the nomad community. Based on your comments, I just thought I would add this to clarify them. When Bob told his story in this video, he was already 5 days out of the hospital & post surgery.
Dear Bob, I’m from Portugal 🇵🇹 and I’m here to thank you and tell you how much you inspired me to change my life. I’m a solo 50 plus woman, driving is very stressful for me and I’m a bit of a hoarder (just a bit😏) so I didn’t become nomadic , it just wasn’t the life for me. But I changed my life when I moved from the city to the country. Now I live in a village, I’ve a back yard, grow some veggies 🥦, listen to the birds everyday… and I’m happier 😊 You inspired and encourage me to live my best life and for that I’m deeply grateful ❤. The two dogs living with me are very grateful too 😊 Thank you so much ❤❤❤
Bob, I am not a van-lifer or any kind of camper but I watch your videos. This is one of your best. All of your shows are about helping others take better care of themselves. Quick healing. God bless…
I was diagnosed with AF at age 52 and told i had to be on medication for the rest of my life or risk stroke, etc. .... i said fthat... i went all veggie, fruit, water and tea for over a year and re-diagnosed at age 54, last year, got a clean bill of health! ... Stay on the road, out of hospitals! Hope you get going and keep going!
Good for you for using your brain and not listening blindly to your(pharma sales rep), doctor. I did the same with my broken back ten years ago. They gave me surgery and told me I would never work again. They wanted to dope me up. I wasn't having it. I went back to work nine years ago. Still working. Mind over matter. The body follows th mind.
So your AF went away? Wow! First time I've ever heard that happen, and I was a nursefor almost 30 years, included working in cardiology. If your AF was healed with diet, then YOU need to teach the doctors something! Also, your attitude of not accepting it probably had a lot to do with it, too (maybe, even more). I believe this from my own personal experiences.
Stay out of hospitals - - good advice! People are dying to get in there, literally. For emergencies, a short stay may be warranted, but for chronic conditions, look for a way out.
Bob!!! Seeing you in the bed made me tear up. I’ve been with you since you just had the cheaprvliving website and you were posting like everybody else on the discussion board. I bought my first minivan because of y’all (I really miss 2kniveskate). I know you’re not going to live forever but I hope you have at least another 30-40 years above ground, loving your life and fulfilling your purpose.
Love your work Bob. Sincerely tho you need to drop 30 lbs and get on Keto diet. Avoid the white-coats and be your own physician! Your knees will appreciate it
Thank you for putting this together. I just had a quadruple bypass after a heart attack. I was near Kingston, but the life flighted to Prescott for the surgery and I had to depend on my network of friends to help. Two weeks out I am parked in a friend’s backyard where I and my doggies feel safe and secure. He checks on me often. My doctors and hospital are the best. I am normally on the other end of this relationship. I’ll be back. ❤
Best wishes for Tim. I’m glad to hear a story about a safety net that is working. I’ve been very fortunate over the years but I have no problem with my tax dollars going towards helping people who truly need it. Tim is one of those folks. I would just beg people to remember how we ended up with safety nets and how we are in danger of losing them. 💕 to all.
Who took care of your dog? I had a broken hip last year from a fall. I needed someone to take care of my cat for what took 20 days. She was totally spoiled between 2 kitty-sitters during my hospital and rehab stays! I know the feelings from my separation from her (cat). Don’t want that ever again! Glad to see you are doing much better and back on the road again. Can’t keep us down for long!
I am also 68 and thankfully have medicare. I'm so glad your procedure went well and you are doing fine! Your advice for nomads is also good advice for all of us who are not, but who enjoy watching your channel and dreaming about the nomadic life. Thanks!
Thanks for this. About 6 months ago, just prior to my 60th birthday, I had a stroke. I'm not currently living van life but strongly considering it in the near future. Listening to this gives me hope that I can still make it work.
Anyone that can say they enjoyed their knee replacement recovery is one tough son of a gun. Tim you're the man. I'm nearly 75 now and had mine done at 64 and it was tough! Did out patient physical therapy for two months.
After my TKR, I did stairs by scooching on my backside. They showed me how to do stairs with a walker, but it didnt feel safe, so I scooched. No rehab, I just rehabbed myself. I had pets. I was 57 at the time. 65 now. Same capabilities. There was some talk about a care facility, but I said nooooo. Some surgical teams wont accept if you dont have anyone to help you after surgery, but I lucked out. I was fine. I slept in my recliner.
I sincerely hope you are much better by now, Bob. I'm 74 and have never had any illnesses at all after a common cold when I was 14 years old so I don't have any idea what it's like to be ill but I do have sympathy for those who do. I'm hoping you'll be okay without too much illness in the future. Hang in there, Bob! A lot of people are pulling for you!
Saying prayers for you to get better soon. I’ve had both knees replaced at the same time. I had to be in a nursing home for 2 weeks. It was the best thing for me.. I’m 70 now so I pray no more problems but at this age you never know .
Glad to hear you are quickly recovering. For others, Escapees CARE in Livingston TX is a good example. We need more RV oriented care locations across US
Important topic. Thank you! Before a procedure in Feb I had to repeatedly emphasis to the young man "My home is my truck. It will be in the parking lot." When he finally got it he got that 'sad' look. He started pitying me and I was too busy to try more than twice to explain that it is a choice." Harder still was dealing with the whole, have someone pick you up after and stay with you thing." I have 1 friend in Vegas. I hated to ask. Luckily she is an exceptionally good sport. The system is not designed for a lot of thinking (living) outside the box, but I got 'er done.
Glad things worked out well Bob. 1 1/2 year ago I was traveling cross county solo and I fell getting out of the van sliding door. I broke my left hip. Helpless lying in a parking lot good samaritans came to my aid as well as EMT, Fire rescue. Emergency surgery and full hip replacement in Kentucky. I had to explain to docs, nurses and case worker the situation that I couldn’t just go home and have someone take care of me. They kept me in the hospital 6 days and the. Arranged for in patient rehab for another 16 days. Then luckily had my Emergency travel insurance that flew me home (CA) with a nurse and had someone drive my van home for me. I was mobile enough to start taking care of myself although getting up the 13 steps in my house was tricky for awhile. Where there is a will there is a way!

They did ablation on my mom in her hospital room. She didn't have time to go to surgery. She left that day. Good luck. Thank you for sharing openly with us.
Glad your procedure went well! My fear, as a single person in my 60s with pets, is how to ensure that, if anything unexpected were to happen to me, someone would know and my pets wouldn't be left to suffer. I wonder if there's a service I could subscribe to that would work sort of like a life alert system, but in reverse: instead of calling when an emergency arises, I'd check in once per day, and if I missed a check-in, someone would be notified and my location and vehicle description be given.
I'm glad you're alive Bob. Guess what... 7 years ago, you inspired me to get back on the road, but do it comfortably. Guess what? I finally got my van. 2014 Toyota Sienna 118k miles and now, 7 years later and a bunch of bullshit that I had to deal with, I'm finally doing it. And my vans name is Bobby. You have truly inspired me and I have used and plan on using all of your advice to get me to where I want to be. Thank you Bob! If it weren't for you, I'd never be able to live my dream of freedom. ✌️❤️ and I hope to meet you at the RTR this year if you're going.
I'm guessing the meds your mom is taking are blood thinners, which don't correct the AFib, they just make it less likely her blood will clot in her heart.
@@David-rx2to, it’s more likely that along with blood thinners, she is taking Metoprolol and Flecainide. One is for heart rate, the other is for rhythm control. I took them for nine years with pretty good results. Until they stopped working. Then , four years ago,I had a successful ablation.
Recovery at home can mean tv, comfy bed. In my SUV I’m out walking (limping!) in nature. I’ve recovered much quicker. I have Chronic Illness but have been so much healthier on the road. I’ve chosen not to get another dog after my "best old boys" passed. The worry of what I would do if I was hospitalized became anxiety. I haven’t built a tribe yet. I’m still mourning but as I get mentally healthier & can give back to people I will find one. Take Care Bob & All those Wonderful Nomads ❤
I have A-fib and they wanted to do an ablation but I have learned what triggers mine. So no caffeine ever, cut way back on sugar as well. After doing this I haven't had A-fib for 2 years. Just passing helpful information. God Bless
Glad you’re feeling better Bob. I’d like to add, I’m 68 as well. I’m in excellent health, minus a knee that’s starting to act up. I stay far away from drs. I don’t take medications. I know the lies tangled around cholesterol and quack seens. Knowing these things allows me to seek natural remedies without side effects. It’s not luck, my health. , it’s distrust of todays sick care. You too can learn to avoid drs. Stay well folks.
I respect your opinion on not trusting Doctors but a Doctor saved my husband's life. He was diagnosed with stage 3 Melanoma 2 years ago and would be dead today if he hadn't acted quickly and got him into surgery. So not all Doctors are bad
I'm with you. I'm 67 and I stay far away from doctors as well. I'm in good health and trying to stay that way without meds. One day I might have to seek "professional" care, but I want to avoid that scenario as long as possible. 😊
Today, doctors are prescribing more and more medications. (For kickbacks to their own wallets) and diagnosing more and more people with a mental illness. (To pad big pharma's pockets) In 1983 1 in 350 people were diagnosed with a mental illness. Today, 1 in 4. Pfizer has now developed a drug to counter all the mental drugs that people are taking. They call it tardive dyskinesia where your body parts move unaided on their own. It is a sad world we live in today. I too stay away from doctors. I am 59 and hopefully can make it to see retirement and enjoy time off from working. Other than that, I have lived a great life without chemicals, doctors opinions and giving my hard earned money to crooks.
Tim should write a book on how to deal with stress and remain chill. His interview was interesting in that he expressed how he got through this major recovery and still remained positive and kept pulling through. Thank you Bob so much for bringing this info to all those who need it. You are a true friend to all of the nomads. Keep up the great work. Please take care and stay healthy. ❤️
Our most prized possession is our health! We only realize how precious good health is when we have, or someone close has, a health problem. Thank you Bob for having this very serious discussion as we tend to put our head in the sand when the health issue arises! Also thank you Tim!
Wow. This episode was so much appreciated. It is a big fear, these medical "what if" events. But it's like life anywhere - you figure it out. And be a friend, have a friend, share your needs. Share your joys and challenges... community!
GREAT information for everyone , no matter how one is living or where. Community is PRICELESS ! ❤ AND never be fearful of reaching out to those you know. Being independent is mostly a good thing; however when one needs help ......ask ! As Bob says ,friends will be upset if you dont ! If one is unable to help out ,they will help find who can !!
The best of luck to you Bob. This particular video might be your most important yet. So many of us who are either living in a van or about to, are in our 60's. Health issues can be of major concern. I for one, appreciate how you turn everyday life situations into a vanlife learning video. Thank you!
Thanks for posting this wonderful information. I would like to encourage doctors and therapists who are attracted to van life to set up fully mobile homes with clinics and treatment areas and join in creating spaces that would be mapped and known to van Life communities. I would also challenge van life builders to examine how they build to look at these issues. The emergency fund is a wonderful idea even for non Van life persons . Best wishes from the Caribbean
Thank you, Bob for excellent advice and sharing it from your heart. Once again, you lead the way with forethought and reason. You are appreciated and I wish for your continued health.
Oh no Bob, I will be praying for your quick recovery. Wish I was close so I could help. Much love and many blessings Well now I see your good, thank goodness
It is important to nurture friendships, we down need a ton of friends, just a few that you know you can call at anytime and that accept you as you are. Those are precious, and as important as an emergency fund. Spent some quality time with those friends and help them as much as they would help you. Thanks for this important video, glad you are ok.
Glad you're okay Bob. We certainly need our friends. Life is a lot harder & lonelier if you don't have them. I love the yellow socks. When I was in hospital, I had bright yellow socks on & when a friend came to visit, she saw my socks first & said, "there she is".
Tim looked and sounded very calm about his medical times. And that's a smart way to go thru it. Bob, you got a good taste about this subject and thought about it rationally and got thru it better than if you weren't prepared at all. I'm sorry you two guys are having to deal with this but such is life. Glad you had the help you and Cody needed. Thanks for the update.
Healing prayers Bob🙏🙏🙏 I cant imagine having to recover from knee surgery in an Rv or van. I have gone through it twice. Its very tough. Rehab 2-3 days a week for 4 months following surgery. They did ablation on my mom in her hospital room. She didn't have time to go to surgery. She left that day. Good luck. Thank you for sharing openly with us.
Stay strong! You help lots of us and we value and appreciate you ❤
Glad to see you are doing well. Keep taking care of yourself.
Check with your local senior center, if they don't know hopefully they can refer you to a person who does.
My mom has AFib and has it controlled with meds. Thank you for sharing!
My bf too. Though if he goes into again he will need abalation.
I'm guessing the meds your mom is taking are blood thinners, which don't correct the AFib, they just make it less likely her blood will clot in her heart.
Both my parents had it with meds but the ablation is a good option if you have a good specialist.
Change her diet asap.
Honey, we love you, and praying for You, just take it easy, we R rooting for You! Thank you for giving Vanlife dignity!!
I have A-fib and they wanted to do an ablation but I have learned what triggers mine. So no caffeine ever, cut way back on sugar as well. After doing this I haven't had A-fib for 2 years. Just passing helpful information. God Bless
So cute seeing your doggys happily running by the house and then they just disappeared that was so funny and adorable 🥰❤
Get well soon
Bob, so sorry for this hiccup. My prayers are with you for a speedy recovery and back on the road.
It's difficult getting old anywhere but more challenging in Van life. You have to live life to the fullest wherever you are!
🙏🙏🙏
I love doctors and medications. I am 74 and never been in hospital.
❤❤❤❤
Get well soon, Bob. All of us Nomads are pulling for you.
I’m 72 had 2 knee replacements, took care of myself, walked in casino 2 days later with walker,at six months was hiking every where
Tim should write a book on how to deal with stress and remain chill.
Also thank you Tim!
love the authenticity Bob. Thank for being real and not letting these inconveniences keep you from making quality content.
You look GOOD Bob, hope you're continuing to recover and live your best life
Thanks to Tim for sharing his experience!
🙏🏻👍🏻🙏🏻 Keeping you in prayer, Bob (met you in 2018 RTR, camped in Earp with you... I'm the blue pickup with the big brown horse trailer 😁)
We be thinking of you! Just like you change oil to keep the engine well, Change your diet to keep your engine well❤love you Bob!
AND never be fearful of reaching out to those you know. Being independent is mostly a good thing; however when one needs help ......ask ! As Bob says ,friends will be upset if you dont ! If one is unable to help out ,they will help find who can !!
I wish you well, love your channel and your content. It’s an inspiration to many people.
The best of luck to you Bob. This particular video might be your most important yet. So many of us who are either living in a van or about to, are in our 60's. Health issues can be of major concern. I for one, appreciate how you turn everyday life situations into a vanlife learning video. Thank you!
Nothing stops Bob from providing information. Wow
I had an ablation done in January for afib. Feeling amazing now! Good luck!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you, Bob for excellent advice and sharing it from your heart. Once again, you lead the way with forethought and reason. You are appreciated and I wish for your continued health.
Oh no Bob, I will be praying for your quick recovery. Wish I was close so I could help. Much love and many blessings
Well now I see your good, thank goodness
You are so very kind to share with us how medical care in the wandering life can unfold.
It is important to nurture friendships, we down need a ton of friends, just a few that you know you can call at anytime and that accept you as you are. Those are precious, and as important as an emergency fund. Spent some quality time with those friends and help them as much as they would help you. Thanks for this important video, glad you are ok.
Sending prayers 🙏❤️
Rest well Bob.
Get well soon Bob we love you
Glad you're okay Bob. We certainly need our friends. Life is a lot harder & lonelier if you don't have them. I love the yellow socks. When I was in hospital, I had bright yellow socks on & when a friend came to visit, she saw my socks first & said, "there she is".
Bob, You are a walking blessing upon this earth.
All the very best Bob !!!!! Your the BEST !!!!!!!!😊😊
Kevin’s ablation went well! He’s been episode and medication free for 2 years! Wish you much luck with surgery and successful outcome!!
Praying for quick healing, Bob!
Good luck to Tim on his healing.
Healing prayers Bob🙏🙏🙏
I cant imagine having to recover from knee surgery in an Rv or van. I have gone through it twice. Its very tough. Rehab 2-3 days a week for 4 months following surgery.
I do not like asking for help but... boy did I need it and appreciate it. These curcumstances make you humble and so appreciative of the kindness of angel friends and family.
In my prayers. I’m post surgery at present, but living in a traditional home environment. Still challenging, no matter what the circumstances. God bless.
Thank God you are okay Bob...so many of us really truly care about you. We love ya Bob!
Bob, you have helped so many people and you have given hope to so many people when they have found themselves facing the difficulties of life. Even from the hospital bed, you are thinking of others. Thank you for the content you share. Wishing you good health and happy travels.
I was shocked and saddened when first watching this video, seeing you ill and in the hospital. Hope that you continue doing well. The picture at 14:27 put a smile on my face with the cute little dog lying it's back at the foot of your bed. So cute!
Wow Bob I'm in a university hospital now because they think I have prostate cancer and lymph nodes etc. I had a biopsy done a few hours ago.. I had high hopes to retire and live the van life. I got so bad 2 women had to help me out of bed. I hope for the best to get to experience the van life. TC
God bless y'all folks if you can work on the road do it don't wait until retirement because lately a lot of people seem to be dying right before retirement.
