In less time, you show very nicely and efficiently how to add sources to Zotero and how to use the Zotero tab/toolbar within the doc. You can suppress the author and add the page number by double clicking the source when it appears in the Zotero long red box.
Thank you for pointing out the inaccuracy of the tool. I have to hand-edit 90% of the references it produces. It is better as a database tool, but as a citation tool ... it really only gives you a decent starting point.
I think it depends on the output style you want and where you get your citations from. When I directly download an article from a journal website, it's often fine for APA. But, yes, I always need to check and frequently to edit. It's still a huge time saver, overall.
But can you save the actual citations/quotes you're referring to in the program? You can do that in Citavi, there you can also organize those citations like in which chapter of your work you're going to use them and so on. Can you do stuff like that with Zotero as well?
You can do that with Zotero. First open the pdf files in any pdf reader and highlight the relevant quote, and save the pdf files. Then use the Zotfile add-on in Zotero to extract all annotations to a Zotero note. You can edit the note, add more notes, draft... as you like.

Sorry, but I don't know. I can only recommend that troubleshooting be directed at the Zotero forums, with attention to your specific OS/browser/Zotero version or plugin. It's a great program, so there IS a solution.
Actually its very useful for those with a PC. Zotero browser plugins work on Chrome, Firefox as well as Safari on the Mac. Set Chrome as your default browser, install the plugin and away you go. Works perfect.
