Nice job Jonathan, how anyone can dislike useful information is crazy. I picked up some 156 screens the other day and they were yellow, I ask the supplier if this would affect my burn time, no they said it should stay the same. Well it didn't and after researching (something I should have done anyway) I found that the yellow would indeed increase the time to burn the screen. In my case it was 25% longer. I say all that because you mentioned the longer time for the yellow screens.

Hi! I m from Nepal. I want to print three coloured line diagrams on 4ft by 3ft rexine (PVC sheeting). My questions are what type of ink do I use? (We don't get plastisol ink in Nepal). What mesh count do i use? And is it possible to ink the whole sheet in one go?if not then how?
110 mesh is good for low detail lettering. Larger block type lettering will be the easiest to render on a 110 but you might get lines down to 1 or 2 points perhaps with a good emulsion. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
CatspitProductions Hello...this is an urgent message lol...please can you offer me some advice. I am literally about to but my first press and some bits and bobs.... My question is what screen mesh counts should I initially buy to make sure I can do what I might come across. Plastisol inks is what I will be using initially. Thank you
Ultimately you will want a variety of mesh counts to choose from. There is no "best" mesh count for everything. I made a video about that you can watch. You choose the mesh depending on the level of detail in the artwork while trying to use the lowest mesh count possible for plastisol inks. Thanks for watching! what mesh count did you use for your catspit shirt that you have on? I'm printing a image with about the same amount of detail as yours, with small letters about the size of the ones at the bottom of your shirt. My image comes out good but, the small letters are filling in with the ink. Do you have any suggestions on what mesh count I should use? I'm using a 110 mesh now with black plastisol ink and chroma blue emulsion. Thanks for the video
That was a 110 or 125 mesh screen. But you may have to enlarge the letters in order for them to print well. It depends on the font. Or try a higher mesh count so you print less ink. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

CatspitProductions Hi. I'm going to buy my first screen and try out screen printing. My first designs are going to be white ink on dark shirts. I do more "detailed" designs than "blocky." Do you recommend that I go with the 156 mesh? Also do you know where to get transparent films for a good price? Thanks a lot.
Larry Baker Wait, what? Cement as in making concrete? Or adhesive inks? Because this material and/or screens are not made for cement. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
CatspitProductions I think he is talking about the frame adhesive. Theres a lot of videos about using Contact cement. I was looking through your shop and could not find the two part adhesive though.
Joe Payton LOL.... haha Oh right if we were to stretch our own screens. It's a cyanoacrylate adhesive like super glue. It stinks real bad and it's often a hazmat. I don't sell it because there is little demand for it since a pre-stretched 110 mesh screen is $20 to $22 new. Unless you know how to do a very good stretch job it would behoove you to simply buy a premade screen. It will help you make better prints easier with less heartache and variables for you to deal with. It's a small investment for a huge return. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
CatspitProductions I agree. However I did make some of my own using contact cement. Mostly just to say I can. It worked very well though. I was surprised. I would like to buy premade frames but smaller than what you have. 12X14 - 14X16
Joe Payton Yes, those are considered hobby grade screens because they are so small. Those would be made with wooden frames. I only sell commercial grade products so we have a 20x24 and a 23x31 screen available. But Speedball has all those little odd sized wooden screens you can buy online. Check them out. Places like Dick Blick sell their stuff.

hi, can you explain the difference between the sizes you are referring to and the T size unit? I'm trying to buy screens to print my detailed artworks onto t-shirts but I have no idea what a 21T thru 120T means.
Col Blackwood This article should do the trick for you ;) www.catspitproductionsllc.com/screenmeshconversions.html Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Yes, there are more threads per inch on higher mesh counts making the mesh openings smaller. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
The tips would be the same. You're going to choose the mesh count based on the artwork and the thickness of the ink combined. The thickness and or particulate size of the ink is more important then what brand or type of ink you are using. Meaning you have to look at the ink and decide what screen mesh it would print best with. Of course considering the artwork as well. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Thanks for the informative video. My only gripe, and it's a small one, is that it would have been nice to see visual examples of products for each type of mesh.
+Joseph DiCristofano You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed the video. I'm not sure what you mean by that. The camera will not pick up the way the mesh looks from count to count. And showing print examples wouldn't show much either. I mean there is a visual difference between the print of a low mesh count versus a very high one but we could only see the extreme end of either one. So visual aides in this case really would not have shown you much more if anything at all. I would have needed a magnifying camera to show mesh counts up close. Thanks for watching. Hi, Im using Plastisol Yellow 4215 screen printing ink on a black tshirt. . As you said in one of you video, it's a very creamy ink. I used a 135 count mesh and the results were horrible. Which mesh count you recomend me in this case?
+Roberto Perez I'm not really familiar with Rutland ink like that. I have used it in the past at shops I have worked at but what mesh count I would use would depend on the thickness of the ink and the detail in the art work. What was wrong with the print? Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
For a very detailed line artwork on the mesh screen , should I use the highest mesh count ? for example to achieve this fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/t31/202205_10150153747582700_2821601_o.jpg , which type of mesh should I use ?

hello im starting my screen printing business targeting a lot of school shirts like printing on polyester shirts... what mesh would you recomend for navy blue polyester shirt to do basic sport shirts 2 colors max 3
That's difficult to say without seeing the artwork. Usually we would do a polyester white under base maybe on a 110 or 125 mesh and then the colors could perhaps be 125 or 160 depending on how thick or thin they are. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Yes, I think you already emailed me and I will reply shortly. Then you can send a JPEG of your art. Do not send any other file except a JPEG. I do not open other file types.
I don’t really know. Your emulsion would need to be water proof as I am guessing the dyes are water based. I’d guess that a 200 through 230 would suffice. If the dye is very runny then move up to a 305. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠
Depending on the artwork and the thickness of the black ink, you might use 110, 125, or 160. Thinner inks can go through higher mesh counts so you print less ink. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
David Sowell Well all emulsions today are only sensitive to UV light. So any of my emulsions I sell will develop with UV light if that is what you mean. catspitscreenprintsupply.com/emulsion/ Depending on what ink you want to use you could use the Textil PC Blue or maybe the Graphic HU. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
I'm a little confused. I want to print a VERY detailed white design (monochromatic) on a black shirt, do I want the colored mesh and low mesh count? (detail and opaque white)
+Patrick Mahloy Then use a 200 mesh or above which will be yellow mesh. You cannot have the best of both worlds. At lower mesh counts the mesh is white because it will not matter being yellow at such a low mesh count. You can only achieve so much detail on lower mesh counts even if they were yellow. Sometimes you can find 160 mesh in yellow. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
I am not so sure about the higher mesh count giving better results. From makro pictures it seems the mesh is only support to keep everything leveled and tight and springy, as the gelatin layer lays independent of the matrix. For that smaller mesh count would be advantage it seems. I will keep searching and give it a shot despite the fact that everybody I look at seems to be saying opposite. I think it may be simply result of marketing for high mesh size.
Not sure where you are getting your info but this is no marketing scam. Emulsion is not independent of the mesh. It encapsulates the mesh. It is supported by the mesh. Higher mesh counts cost a few dollars more than lower ones so there's no fortune to be made by making people push ink through a higher mesh count. What I teach is the standard in the industry and when you begin making screens you will learn that high detail will never render on a 110 mesh. Think about this example for a moment. With halftones we use tiny dots. A 65 LPI halftone has very small dots and on a 110 mesh they would disappear in the large mesh openings. You will never render a 65 LPI on a 110 mesh. If you can you're a genius or a god. Higher mesh counts are better at rendering detail because the emulsion has to bridge much smaller openings and the mesh supports the emulsion so you can get the detail. Think about it. We ask emulsion to bridge from corner to corner of the square mesh grid. It is much easier for emulsion to do with smaller mesh openings. Thanks for watching! @@CatspitProductions Yes, I was wrong. My appologies. I have screen printed with fine mesh multiple times and it crossed my mind that all I need are openings and stencil type coat, so screen need't to be too fine to do that. I am planning on trying screen printing for thickness, like several millimeters, with plaster of paris. Fine mesh seems useless for that. I also screwed up terminology since gelatin is used in carbon printing, in silk printing it is emulsion.
@@kokeskokeskokes No worries. It's all a part of the learning journey. Sometimes things can get confusing or we over analyze things. Screen printing is a pretty simple process. It's a formula, an equation, if you will. But it's also an art, a craft, and a creative skill. Yes, if you want to basically extrude plaster of Paris through screen mesh, you'll probably want to try a 24 to 80 mesh screen.
You are good teacher I am from Nepal and currently working in Qatar as salesman by watching your video i am slowly having confident to start my own screen print business in my home country. Is there any risk to start job just watching video education?

from my understanding, 110 mesh is for white ink or light color inks and 156 mesh is for dark plasitol inks and for more detailed images. am I correct?
You may want to watch the video again. 110 mesh would be for light colored inks on dark garments with artwork that has little to no detail. A 156/160 would hold more detail and print less ink. So it would be better at printing darker inks on lighter colored garments. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

When printing halftones with the 200 mesh, does the shading in the artwork need to be altered to halftone before making the film or will the halftone created by the film be ok ? should the film be run at 45lpi frequency?

I'm working on some designs for resistant dying. I plan to pass glue through the mesh, which count would be the best for that. The glue is a thick clear glue.

Hi. I like your video and clear explanation of issue. I am graphic designer and a print screen technology is new for me. I would like to ask for advise. Can y give me advise? I would like to know when i do creating halftones CMYK in Photoshop for printing on foil, what the frequency i should put into setting column? For example I do set up for halftone: C-45, M-75, Y-0, K-15 then I putt settings: Halftone, Shape- round, Frequency -? Here I do not understand haw I should calculate Frequency ? Because I need make calculations according what number of mesh I use. For example for Mesh 110 frequency -? For Mesh 125,200 and so on frequency -? Haw i should calculate it? Thank y

Is 110 mesh good for letting, and what size of letting
Does it have like a standard size mesh
No, there is no single mesh count for all print jobs. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Im a beginner and ive been using 125 mesh. is this ok? im laying down designs with fat lines not to detailed yet...
Are the frames you sell measured from the outer diameter of the frame or the inner diameter of the frame?
That would be outer dimensions. The frame is about 1.5 inches or so in width. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

what mesh count did you use for your catspit shirt that you have on?

Do you have the video for choosing the mesh counts for water-based inks?
No not specifically but with most water based inks you'll be starting at a 160 mesh at the lowest and moving up to 200 and 230 for thinner inks or higher detailed artwork of course.
Thanks a lot.
what would you recommend for cement

So is the grids smaller in the higher mesh counts. Sorry I'm new to screen printing.
Yes, there are more threads per inch on higher mesh counts making the mesh openings smaller. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Higher mesh count for finer detail / thinner inks?
Basically, yes.
How about when using heavy body or soft body acrylics instead? Sorry if it might sound stupid, but I am really new to this. Thanks
Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Sorry I make it a habit not to click on links I don’t know. Nothing personal I just have to be safe. You can send it to me through Facebook. facebook.com/pages/Catspit-Productions-LLC/73120361983 But you won’t necessarily chose the highest mesh count. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
what mesh count should i use for an inside tag print? It'd be 3x2 inches at most, and just text for the most part.
If it's really small text and you want a light print maybe a 200 mesh. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
hello im starting my screen printing business targeting a lot of school shirts like printing on polyester shirts... what mesh would you recomend for navy blue polyester shirt to do basic sport shirts 2 colors max 3

say i want to put black ink onto a white crewneck sweater. what mesh is best for that job man?
Depending on the artwork and the thickness of the black ink, you might use 110, 125, or 160. Thinner inks can go through higher mesh counts so you print less ink. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
What emulsion would you recommend for 200 mesh that will be UV developed?
David Sowell Well all emulsions today are only sensitive to UV light. So any of my emulsions I sell will develop with UV light if that is what you mean.
catspitscreenprintsupply.com/emulsion/
Depending on what ink you want to use you could use the Textil PC Blue or maybe the Graphic HU.
Thanks!
+Patrick Mahloy My pleasure ;)
high detail green ink got 230 its white mesh will this b ok
Probably. You'll have to give it a try.
Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
@@CatspitProductions Thank you.

hmm, ez screen print is a company that sells pre emulsion sheets, what kind of mesh, they use?

from my understanding, 110 mesh is for white ink or light color inks and 156 mesh is for dark plasitol inks and for more detailed images. am I correct?
also could I use water base ink on a 156 for colored ink?
You may want to watch the video again. 110 mesh would be for light colored inks on dark garments with artwork that has little to no detail. A 156/160 would hold more detail and print less ink. So it would be better at printing darker inks on lighter colored garments. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
