I personally don't, I find that it I juuust lacking on the 100-0 department, and being able to dragon breath someone with a gem on it is great imo. that's just in my experience also current spear of the magus is really, really good on Fafnir. he stacks it in like half a second. perhaps both spear of the magus and obsidian shard could be viable?

I love Fafnir. My favorite guardian and before silver branch he was my main duel god. I beat a Amateratsu with my Fafnir to promote me from Silver II to Gold IV.
Max Klein it was when fafmir was first available in duel, he didn't know anything about fafnirs kit like his ult did damage, also he was having a rough day, I still losses because I dived too far in the end.
When he loses to a player who plays well he admits it all the time. "Wow this serrqet is really good, he's been making a name for himself...". He even says at the start of the match if he has the better match up and that he won because of the match up, not his playstyle.
Well fafnir's cooldowns are really long so you want to get full cooldown, like shoes of focus + Breastplate of valor + power pot. Dynasty plate helm is good for early damage. Obsidian is NEEDED to take towers. I haven't tried it yet but the new spear of the Magus would be really good on him if you mixed it with shoes of the magi and dynasty plate helm just for the burst.
to be fair he was distracted during that game and underestimated fafnir big time. He didn't know the ultimate did damage, and he still beat me late game :P

Oh I know gem is really good but I find the slow from his hammer is usually good enough :P

I forgot to add the designs to the side to cover the black bars. My monitor is tiny and doesn't fit well when going from 1440 x 900 to 1920 x 1080.
