Being from Chicago and having gone to Rainbow, this upload makes me homesick for that smooth, polished skating. Been having a revival of my own in Berlin, but it’s not the same across the pond. My heart was happy to see such legends and it made me happy to see that JB swagger! tThank you Malik. This is a treasure. I’ll try my hardest to spread the bug out here in Germany.
Man I'm in Alaska and we got zero skaters. Everybody up here is about doin 720s and power skating. As soon as I found JB I knew it was the way I'd been trying to skate this whole time, without even knowing what it was. Just commenting to let you know how dope your tutorials are, but this view into the culture and hearing the first hand accounts and advice really made my whole night. Thanks for showing the world this pillar of the culture fr, it's important
My first skate as at Foxy Wheels right off of 63rd in Damen. I met Casper at Skate City. He taught me how to skate better. Man, Hollywood. I met him at the Rainbow Skating Rink. Skating is the best exercise ever.
Wow! What an awesome inspiring video. At 42, I just started back skating after like 25 years. If I can finally figure out how to stay on my feet long enough to get my flow down, I would probably skate till I can't stand up anymore.
I could listen to Helen Wolfe and Clint Wood all day, the video was an education and a pleasure. Thanks Malik and everyone, all the way from Australia 🌞🛼
Wow!! Love listening & watching this. Great solid advice to the next generation of skaters. No matter what one's skating style is, it takes practice to develop. 👏👏👏Malik, great video!
It's a blessing to be able to skate +40 yrs and to have a rink where to skate at. This whole video oozed joy, energy and happiness, good job Malik & Terry.
This brings back so many memories as a child going to Hot Wheels Roller rink on the west side of Chicago big shout out to the Original JB Legends my brother Bobby, King ,and Hollywood you all still got it going on keep on skating ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This was a wonderful video.. the interviews were inspiring and I recognize a couple of the skaters.. I remember the first Rink on Ashland, the Loop and someone mentioned the Savoy which was popular as well.. I skated at all of these rinks with my mom. You guys did a great job.. much respect to you both and to all of the Legends! Proud to be from Chicago!
Man what a wonderful documentary. As someone who is on the outside looking in because I was born and raised in the DMV. This really gave me a true glimpse into the skating style that I’ve decided to adopt. I love the JB skating style and will skate that style until I can’t no more. Much love to the legends of the wood, and most importantly the city of Chicago!
I can’t wait to watch this fully. I’m sorta new to the skate community although I started skating as a kid for some years then stopped. I’m so glad I started back it’s been rewarding. The level of positive energy as Helen said is something we definitely need more of. The ppl I’ve met so far and the love. I love Chicago I love skating. Yes the positive side of Chicago!!!
Word ! Sending positive energy back from over the atlantc ocean, exactly Germany . Here is freezing cold and no open skating rinks,so waiting for spring 🙏🎉🎀💯💥
I throughly enjoyed watching this awe-inspiring, love for the grooves 🎵🎶and the moves, 🔥 documentary. Their is nothing quite like pursuing one's passion, consistently perfecting your skills, your craft , on this journey of applying one's creative abilities. Give thanks 🙏🏾 brother Malik, and to all the brothers and sisters, legends of the JB style of skating, it is proper and correct that we tell our own stories and promote and document our culture and history. Much love and respect from your brother across the pond London England. ✊🏾🖤👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Absolutely marvellous video, loved hearing from the legendary OG'S about their experiences and they still got it. Thanks Malik, a future legend and OG 🥰👏🏿🤴🏿👸🏿
I need to start back 🛼🛼🛼, seeing the old crew put a smile on my face 😂 Hollywood, King, Kee Kee, Twin in the red (animal print) jogging suit. WOW, I'm missing out 😢😢😢

I’m so late to this. Wow wow wow is all I can say! Great video , great stories! The history, the memories! Do your thing!!!! I skated at Markham on Saturdays in the late 70s. I’m trying to get back into skating. The Rink has lessons on Saturday and Tuesday.
Please tell me how or who created JB skating? I've heard it was a dj. James Brown wasn't even from Chicago. JB is my fav skate style and James Brown was one of the greatest dancers, artist and a civil rights activist. Much love and respect.❤
Hey Malik, Since I am living abroad, I dont have access to those legends! I wanted to ask you about your set up and what you see the legends mostly going with(esp the smooth skaters). Do you have any videos on this? I am looking for the boot and outdoor wheel brand? Even just the durometer and wheel size would help a lot. I find that my set up is too gummy or big.
Malik how is everything, I live in VA is their anyone in the area that teaches JB skating I love how smooth, culture, old school grove I can do a little JB it seen like I am leaving out i have no one here help out
I’m 57 years old. I was last in skates 5 years ago but my family wouldn’t let me on the rink! I’m more so motivated to get back on the rink now, than ever. I call it steppin on wheels. Where y’all at? Grannie G on the west side of Chicago ❤🛼
I absolutely love the old school skaters, the smoothness is outstanding
Love the whole ambience
