You could use it by going through two of your portals through the over world and make two discovered splotches on your nether map then it could be helpful to make a nether tunnel
You could map every nether portal using the named banner feature and than you get a real good sense of your netherhub compared to teh overworld relatively. And find quick nether portals when traveling in the 16000x16000 grid
I was mugged in front of my own house. I was lucky enough to get away from the guy but I was scared. It's the emotional fear of not knowing what is going to happen.

If you can use an ender pearl to break through the bed rock, you can lay blocks on top of the bed rock to help with your map. You can use dark oak to plow back through the bedrock afterwards.
Banners now show up on the map, apparently, if you right click the named banner with the map. I think you can remove the banner afterwards, with the sign staying on the map, but I'm not sure.
I like the pattern of the nether map anyways when it’s filled. I put it on an item frame and placed a sign next to it that says “a nether one bites the dust”
Regarding the nether map - the map as generated scans the topmost block going down from world height. World height in the Nether is still set to 128. The pattern is Netherack and bedrock mishmashed together scanned from y=127. Yes this actually means if you place blocks at level 127 you can make a map in the nether. We've seen proof of this on the sci-craft server where they bulk removed a huge chunk of the nether and you can see the stuff in maps in that area through the bedrock.
What you should do is place an overworld map next to the nether maps, and every now and then in along the nether platform is do the same thing, so you can see whereabouts you are in the overworld whilst in the nether

Fun fact: you don’t actually have to go through the portal in the nether to get to the islands- you can just fly or bridge over to them(it takes thousands of blocks though)
Hey Toycat, I saw a video where another Minecraft guy did a few commands and removed an entire area of nether down to the bottom and the pattern on the map you first made was the exact design of the “floor” of the nether below what he cleared out.
Maps in the Nether CAN be useful if you place mark them with banners. A concrete example I've encoutered was to link up through the Nether two portals I had built in the overworld.
Toycat, i just saw your portal linking video. And I wondered what would happen if you made a portal in the nether under the lava level (“sea” level). By like, removing lava and building a portal under it lol
You could use an iron door on top of a redstone block (or a redstone torch one block beneath the ground if you don't want the red to show) to make a door that you can't close.
Create a Nether Map comprised only of the dots where your bases are. Lock it, and copy it at each base alongside a traditional maproom to check relative positions
