kelly McClain.....irish dance only started in the late 1800s after two irishmen got invited to several scots ceilidth nights in london in 1894. most likely adopted from scottish stepdance. scottish stepdance mostly went to canada alang with the original scottish fiddle reel music. they still speak scottish galic in some parts of cape breton yet. the scots introduced the fiddle to ireland where literally 100s of scottish fiddle reel tunes went. irish music only started in the late 50s when the clancies (who actually started out as actors took to singing)adopted the lively/fun nonsense scottish sangs. many famous irish sangs are actually scottish or english. many famous irish fiddle tunes are actually scottish. i would say tho, that this is from welsh or english clog dance.

@@em-jd4do I think that part of that is sure capitalism, but another is also the development of a greater individualism across the West where people see these old traditions or collectives as constraining. The whole "I wanna get out of this place cause it's boring" became big. Also people may have viewed these as just part of racist or sexist culture and so rejected it all. Sure, they were right to some extent, but is buck dancing racist? Also keep in mind that buck dancing is pretty specific to the Southern US although with its origins in Irish dance. The drive in America towards the suburbs and focus on the individual I think had a serious effect on dancing particularly among perceived white people who mainly benefited from the suburbs early on. Dance is a collective action, and people are in their own worlds and drive everywhere then the collective diminishes. I think its a lot more factors too so it's hard to say.

I was dancing salsa in Miami, listening to live country in Nashville, blues in New Orleans, and so much in between. Despite all the issues the USA faces, the beauty of this country is its diversity. Ive lived in several countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and South America. Though doing so was a great experience, nowhere have I seen the diversity as it is in the USA. It's not "celtic", whatever you think that means. These step dances developed over the last few hundred years in Britain and Ireland, they don't have anything to do with the "celts."
The largest numbers (and earliest) immigrants to the Appalachians were English. They took their music song and dances with them, including step dancing. I know that many people are pretty ignorant about English traditions, but they made a massive contribution to Appalachian culture. Don't make the mistake or rewriting history through ignorance.

    • @wewuzwolves4428

@@andrewwigglesworth3030 Celtic people today are the current Scottish, Welsh, Irish as well as their descendants in the Americas (which includes Alabama). England was almost entirely dominated by Celts until Romans and Germanic tribes decided to make the Island home. Ancient Celts were once widespread all over Europe. Many of those "English People" you mentioned were actually Ulster and Highland Scots. A little basic research is your friend. It would have saved you from looking like, as the English would say, a "right git". No one is "rewriting history" and you are not nearly as smart as you think you are. It's funny how you mentioned my "ignorance" in a comment that literally showcases your own.
