Fact is Sambalpuri is a dialect under Odia language, of which cuttacki or Moghulbandi is standard now, but it has the same status as a dialect as Sambalpuri. Sambalpuri and standard Odia is 70-80% similar, except for some loanwords. Just because Sambalpuri people follow 2 festivals diff frm coastal, does not mean it's a separate culture. If Sambalpuri is a separate language, what is the script for Sambalpuri? It is nothing more than sadri or tribal language then. And even the name Kosal denotes an ancient kingdom in Bihar and UP, not present day Sambalpur. But I agree, Sambalpuri is a little divergent than standard Odia than most dialects because it was ruled by Chattisgarhi Hindi and many Adivasi fiefs or kings frm 13th century. Know ur history, boy.

Hey guys...what's there not to like about the song...I admit I am not from Odisha...and I heard the first RONGOBOTI on coke studio...
.
But isn't it a folk song...??..It's great that Bollywood... Unarguably the Indian largest film industry is taking it to a much larger audience than anything in Odisha can... U might not approve of the kind of lyrics they have incorporated...and I respect you for upholding ur cultural honour... But seriously there is absolutely nothing disgraceful about it..Nothing to be ashamed of.... I have a gut feeling that it might develop into another face of Odia culture next to Odisi dance...

The fusion's pretty cool. But the reason so many Oriyas,mainly the ones from Sambalpur have dissed it is due to the fact that she has sung almost all of the words of the song wrong. There wouldn't have been such an outrage if she'd have actually gone through the lyrics :)

Even though I appreciate the fact that finally there is some promotion of Odia culture in Bollywood, one cannot deny the fact that this song is not upto the mark. They could have put atleast some Odia lyrics in there. For e.g in the song, "tune maari entriyaan", they did put some Bengali lyrics in it and acknowledged the culture very well. In here, even though there are some actors who are from Ollywood, it is not enough promotion because nationally barely anyone knows them. I like the effort of showing Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra as well as the Bali Jatra concept. But apart from that there is not much in there to be appreciated. It is impossible for any female to sing at the scale of Krishna Beura, so it should have never been attempted. They could have begun on a lower scale or any scale which befitted the female singer. The female singer's voice literally left my ears bleeding. All in all it is an average effort. Better luck next time!
