    Hi everyone! I have been incredibly sick with Covid for the last week therefore I just didn't have the energy or interest to do anything special with this video editing-wise. The camera issue is 95% fixed in the next video, thankfully.
    People have been asking for years about my hometown. Hopefully this answers the question as to why I've preferred to stay in 'average' or 'slightly rough' cities over the years like Torreon, Ciudad Obregon or Uzice. I was subconsciously looking for a home I was used to. DEEP.
    Also, this video raises bigger questions about Travel TH-camrs. I've always wondered... why did they start doing it in the first place? Was there anything traumatic about their previous life? What is their hometown like? It's pretty obvious that my time in Hounslow particularly was full of Gen-Z style trauma I'm not even able to address. It might be a good idea for a TH-camr character study LOL

    I went back to Scotland and ,more specifically, my hometown for the first time in years during the summer and the reverse culture shock was palpable, eating small lunches and huge dinners was the most difficult for me. It took a bit of getting used to the night culture too, finishing at midnight when I was just getting started was a pain. Also when I left everyone drank terrible instant coffee and now everyone seems to have a grinder and espresso machine. The accessibility cosmetic injections was painfully apparent as a good proportion of the young ladies looked like they'd had a confrontation with a wasp nest. All in all though I had a great time.

    Funny enough, after years of not being in the UK since Covid, I finally did go back to my hometown in the UK, and I honestly had a different feeling compared to before. I definitely appreciated the UK a lot more than I did before covid and plan to move back.

    OMG.. no idea how this video came up on my timeline but glad it did. Smiling because this was such a trip down memory lane. Yep, I grew up in Feltham right near you mate (Harvest Road) and went to Feltham Hill, followed by surviving Feltham Comprehensive (now Springwest Academy). My mum and dad are buried across the street from our old primary school in Feltham cemetery. As for Feltham, I don't recognise it now. As a teenager I used to work in that Boots the Chemist on Hounslow High street as a Saturday Girl and that place has REALLY changed, too. I've lived in America since 1998 but as soon as I get off the plane at Heathrow, those Feltham "dulcet tones" come right back. I guess we can be grateful that growing up where we did made us what we are today because it really did make us kids want to explore the world outside of TW13 and somehow living next door to an airport just reinforced that desire to travel. Cheers David.

    Very strange to see your video! I lived there for many years … left 1970😮 I went to Feltham Hill school (I was a prefect😂) … I know the little alley next to St Dunstans which was near to the house I lived in, which was opposite the park… I was christened in St Catherine’s church at the top of Feltham high street, yes it was a church once … my mum worked in the row of shops opposite Spring corner and lived in Vernon Road…my Grandad frequented Three Horseshoes and I remember the off licence attached at the back of the pub, through the gate into the garden … I went to school in Isleworth and used to catch the 117 bus opposite the pub (there was a police box there then)… the bus to Sunbury was a 237 then and I still have relatives living there … I know the green and the Rose and Crown but mostly I remember the planes flying over really low from Heathrow, deafening!… I definitely don’t want to go back there but I was full of nostalgia watching your video … thank you

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679 ปีที่แล้ว

      Denise! Great to hear from a fellow original Feltham resident!! Yes the bus was still a 237 when I was going to school in the 90s (at St Pauls in Sunbury). It changed to the 235 in the mid-90s. I think the 237 still runs around Shephard's Bush area. Can't believe you were at Feltham Hill. I remember we did a project on the history of the school (this would have been around 1990), and I remember looking at photos from the 70s. My oldest sister would've started there around 1977. I used to go over Circle K for a Slush Puppie (before it was Londis) and can still remember the doctors surgery on the corner (or clinic as my Mum used to call it), I think she took me there for my injections when I was a toddler. I actually lived down Ellington Road from 82-84 but my parents decided to move because it was only a 2-bed semi-detached and there were 5 of us by then! I have a scar on my forehead, this comes from when I fell down the stairs in 1984 at that house and smashed my head against the door frame. I guess that's where the brains went!
      Memories!

    May you have a complete recovery from Covid soon, if not done already! Feltham was pleasanter than I expected. Of course having some negative associations with a place affects things. You grew up on an attractive block with gardens front and back and shops and a church nearby. And cozy weather! As some people who have done so tell me, it was a smart to buy a home - even if the rest of that time wasn't as smart. I wasn't even smart enough to do that. Sure, chances are you wouldn't say the old neighborhood is just like Ciudad Obregon, but it makes sense to gravitate toward places that are down to earth. Maybe it's the memory of home. It can be moving target but is also fixed in our hearts, possibly from birth. If home is where the heart is, it might be nice to include a cat and a place to write a book. I hope your family is well. Enjoy your visit in spite of everything - You're still a local!

    I think you are not only projecting. Places like this have become really depressing. Economic uncertainty, not much feeling of community anymore. I lived in London for a while and felt this strongly. However, if you grow up there it might be different, you might feel at home and feel that there is a local spirit. But as an outsider I felt very alienated. At the same time London is very fascinating just because of the size of it, all the areas and streets you will never visit, the sense of being anonymous.

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you say about feeling alienated is something I've heard from many. In cities I have spent a lot of time, like Mexico City, I never felt that. I think because there there's more of an overwhelming community feeling, which in London is just non existant and has been like that since post WW2 really. Growing up in the 80s in that house I wouldn't dare even speak to my neighbours!

    It looks like a decent working-class neighborhood. If you have a family and a couple of good friends you could be happy there.
    Come to LA and you'll see some 'neighborhoods from hell' - and there are some so fancy that actually resemble Buckingham Palace.

      Haha I've been in Sofia for a few weeks but so far I feel like it's too much bread, not enough cheese when I compare with Serbia. I was in the supermarket the other day and the selection is generally great but with some things I'm like ARGHGH I just want some Clipsy!! Lol

    Come on! I would never be able to tell if you are speaking with a local or nonlocal accent. You just speak British to me, hahaha. Thank you for taking us to memory lane.
    I read you fixed comment... So you got Covid as soon as you arrived to London? I hope you get well soon.
    You have no idea how many people call their own home places shitholes and look at other places where locals call them also shitholes and for them (nonlocals)... it's just a more higher and advanced place to live. I definitely see myself vising London in 5 years. Just for vacationing.

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679 ปีที่แล้ว

      One person's shithole is another person's gem! This was filmed around October 20th and I started getting sick around 1st Nov in Sofia... finally better now
      To a non-Brit it can be very difficult to distinguish between accents. There was a bit near the end which I cut when talking to an old guy (he didn't want to be on camera) where it completely came back. Basically like Cockney with a slight difference but it was more about the vocabulary I was using. I sounded like my dad lol

    Few natives feel comfortable in Brownslow anymore. Felthamabad is abit better but has underclass chavs everywhere.

    I’m just happy Feltham not a National Frontier area anymore, those racists been pushed to Sunbury.

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679 ปีที่แล้ว

      no way! Sunbury was always a bit like red shoes no knickers. People down The Avenue be like oh look at us we're so posh, but under the surface, it's just Feltham mark 2 (I went to St Pauls Catholic School)

      You're right about the homeless! This has always been a problem for as long as I can remember. Across London actually. One of the major governmental issues actually. That street at night jaja, basically you'd just go down there to buy drugs or murder someone. Is THIS Acapulco?! jaja
