    Can you talk about your Dutch culture? what is beauty and fashion like over there compared to in other cultures such as the US?

    Just finished watching. I didn’t think it was ranty. You’re absolutely right the economy thrives on people spending their money. After discovering beauty TH-cam I definitely have more makeup than if I never had discovered it and that can make me feel guilty sometimes but makeup brings me a lot of joy and I rotate my products. I think as long as you’re using products it will be fine. I have never claimed to be a minimalist. I like options too much.

      Yes as long as you use your stuff AND don't go into debt when you buy things.

    I love these videos! It's like chatting with a friend about fun stuff that I don't have anyone to really talk about with in my real life. Most of my friends are not as makeup loving as me so this is always so fun

    Hi Maaike, i've stopped watching big Channels because there is where i find the overconsumerism happens very often. Bigger Channels receive a lot of PR and they change their mind about every single new product they try. I like small Channels where people spend their own money and with that aren't tempted to buy everything new new new and actually they rethink everything they need in their collection. I also understand having a Channel you have more makeup than a normal consumer like me, so i don't judge.
    I love to see project pans, shop my stash, oldies but goddies , makeup that you always loved but forget you have etc.

      Good to know! I do all of that in my Shop my Stash videos. It includes products I want to use up or hit pan on, products I love and want to go back to and forgotten products that I feel I finally need to grace with a review.

    Being in the US, it's always so interesting how "late" at night your videos go up for me. Lol.

      I post at 5 AM CET. Right on time for EST people who go to bed, Euroeans who wake up and Australians who have their lunch.

    I also find those restock videos to be so excessive especially when emptying a perfectly good container into a difference container. The only time I do that is when I buy a food product that doesn't have a re-sealable closure so that it doesn't go bad. But emptying plastic into more plastic, or non-perishables into "aesthetic" containers is wild and honestly seems like it would be so overwhelming to maintain

    Hi Maaike, this was a very interesting chat! I feel that you have helped with my over consumption because I no longer have the extra funds to splurge on make up anymore and tbh I already have more make up than I really need.
    So by watching make up videos like yours, this really helps with my make up ‘fix’, when I want to be in the lovely make up world, looking at swabs and colours, talking about quality of products, textures and tones, seeing the new releases for make up, I get my ‘fix’ for make up from make up videos and it doesn’t cost me anything, so thank you! Not sure if this makes sense?! 🤔😆👋🇬🇧

      I guess it does. I definitely love watching makeup content as well to figure out what I like and see what might work.

    I’ve had to work on not buying everything that’s on sale. I did really well until this Sept thru Dec. of this yr. I know why I did it and that is I lost control of my life. I lost my grandma and father in law, my mom isn’t doing well. Watching influencers say these two phrases got to me to. They say “you HAVE to have this and you NEED this”. Those words also triggered me. Now I’m not just blaming them it’s mostly me, who has to take back my control. I don’t have to have or need anything but because I really like that influencers and they say that then I go and get it. I also bought a lot of clothes. In 2025 I need to stop spending on all this skincare and especially makeup. I have wasted a lot of money. I will continue to treat myself every so often like I used to. I refuse to buy these items I mentioned earlier on a weekly basis. I did it before for a few yrs now I beat it again. I hope I’m making sense. I’m at work and my break is up. I enjoy your knowledge and helping me once again opening my mind. Oh real quick I’ve stopped watching a few of the influencers that really push the codes, affiliate links, and the two phrases that are a trigger for me.
    Take care and be safe out there. Thank you for being you and not pushing products at us. Please don’t change! Don’t let YT and brands take control of you!
    Hugs~

      Thanks for the support and I hope you are doing well. Sometimes we also have to cut our losses and just realize that we always try our best. Just because there was a setback doesn't mean the goal isn't or won't be reached.

    I think we all could be seen as over consuming through someone else's eyes. What I feel as important is different from others.

    I too used to watch Jessica Braun, but since she left teaching she's become vapid.

      I am still subscribed to her but i don't watch most of her videos, she took another direction that probably is not my thing! But she also has transparent sponsorships and i appeciate that , nothing wrong if you try to mantain your Channel especially if is your main income!

    • @FloatinginDreams
      @FloatinginDreams  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I kept watching her for a while as she said she was unsubscribing from PR lists as she felt overwhelmed. Only to do massive Costco hauls and still getting lots of PR which felt... weird. So I stopped watching when I felt she was saying one thing but not matching that in her behavior.

    Wondering if tik tok really is banned, will over consumption get so much better.❤😂🎉

      Overconsumption isn't a Tiktok problem. It's been around for decades.

      I think it generates too much money. Either someone will take it over, or something similar will eventually emerge. It's capitalism!

  • @GiovannaIwishyou

    I don't think you overconsume, for a youtuber. Someone who is not a youtuber would not need that much products. So yes, you still buy things that you usually wouldn't, just for videos, or at least that's my impression watching this channel.

    • @FloatinginDreams
      @FloatinginDreams  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah for sure, but sadly the only thing that keeps the algorithm going is if you post about new stuff. So a certain amount of new products have to be brought in just to keep a channel like this going.

    I have stopped watching youtubers that have every single thing in their videos linked or popping up with TH-cam shop. I feel like they are just trying to have me use their affiliate links. I think if you buy a lot of things and find you are overwhelmed with all the products and not able to use and enjoy them, then a low buy might be a good idea.

    • @FloatinginDreams
      @FloatinginDreams  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Low buys can be a good thing but then it has to be a true low buy. I just try to stick to a budget. And linking things can be nice to get a bit of kickback from videos you make. Not everyone can make money through adsense/ sponsorships. For instance, in NL there is no Tiktokshop or creator fund so the only way those creators can even make money is through affiliate links and sponsorships. It can sometimes be the only way people can keep their channels running and create the content you watch. I use my Adsense as my makeup shopping budget for that month. So it's the fact you watch my videos and watch the ads that helps me to creat what you are watching. Not because I don't want to do it for free or because I need to be paid, but because else I couldn't live up to the expectations viewers have of a makeup YT channel.
