    I made potty training fun for my deaf Dogo. I got the bright idea of hanging a large Bell next to my front door. I taught him to ring the bell when he had to go out as a puppy. Chong picked up on it within 3 days and still uses it to this day. Granted at first hearing it all the time because he thought he would get a treat every time he rang it. Didn't take him long to catch on that if he goes out to pee with the Bell then he gets the treat. He's still a work in progress because he's just a little over a year old but we have so much fun when we do training. I'm so glad I was able to rescue him from the breeder that was going to kill him cuz he's deaf.

      All my dogs know “potty bells” as well! Very useful if you don’t have a doggie door!

    Yep, you're the coolest chick on you tube! I love the ears and your energy! There's a type of person that seems to naturally gravitate towards the Dogo Argentino,(mostly, not always, but mostly) ... you're that person! Fun, outside the box, creative, high energy, not afraid of things that aren't the "norm"... thanks for great videos and fun little bonus features! (Your ears! )

    My Dogo is now 10 years old. When she was a pupp, this is mostly what i did. Food and water control is very important. Reading your puppy mostly, and rewarding the puppy when it gets it right. Once you had a Dogo. U never want another breed.

    How long do you use the “umbilical” process? Was not mentioned, how ever beautifully explained.

    Thank you for some great content :)
    I know that no one recommends a dogo for a first-time dog owner, but in your opinion, what would it take to succeed as a first-time dog owner with a dogo argentino being the first breed? :)
    Thank you and keep up the good work :)

    • @DogoArgentinoUSA
      @DogoArgentinoUSA  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s tough to say because a lot of success is based on the kind of person that you are and the particular DA in question. These DAs IMO truly are not good “first time dog owners dogs”. That being said success is based on proper interpretation of dog body language; lifelong consistent appropriate training and socialization; lifelong daily vigorous physical and mental stimulation; understanding the limits of training in the face of genetic behavior that acts contrary to human preferences; and a general human commitment to the best interests of the animal.

    Great teaching. I have Question you may be able to help? My dogo girl has had urinary tract infection taking her into the Vet every time and they just give antibiotics I keep her very clean I am not sure what to do. I can't have her on antibiotics forever they tell me that I should do better after her first heat cycle. Any recommendations

    • @DogoArgentinoUSA
      @DogoArgentinoUSA  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I recommend you get a second veterinarian’s opinion. Antibiotics long term are pretty bad for their livers and kidneys but I have no alternative suggestions of use unfortunately.

      Have you screened her for diabetes, hypothyroidism, ect? On some rare occasions frequent UTI can present for more serious conditions like bladder cancer, ect.

    Now, for the crate training with the exercise pen, what kind of pen?? Just a gate thet you set up around the crate?? Won’t they knock it over? Also, do you put this all outside or inside? I don’t have a doggie door

    • @DogoArgentinoUSA
      @DogoArgentinoUSA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I own several crates. This crate is one of them: amzn.to/3fbMDIa
      This is my xpen and no it doesn’t fall because I zip tie it to the crate. amzn.to/3fawwub and here are the zip ties amzn.to/30tOvrF Of course it’s easier with a doggie dog amzn.to/2XOCcEh The way I set up is the crate is inside attached to the door and the xpen is outside attached on the opposite site of the pet door. If I were inside only with no pet door I would zip tie the pen to the crate with a litter box in the pen.

    As rarely as I’ve heard it mentioned ( but have heard it several times ) about Dogos having weak bladders ? I’m not talking about pups or puppy training , but adults .

    Hi I just got a 6 mo th girl she is very kind and smart built good 60 pounds, I went to get her and end up getting her for free as she was not in the greatest condition, I stayed up her 2 nights make sure she got better seems so but she breaths so heavey in her sleep and it's not cuz of a dream she is not dream running or anything, also she was kept at a farm never has had a leash, and I'm thr city she is terrified of it she's not aggressive yet about it but I know fear can be bad , how can I train her better iv had pittbulls but since she was on a farm for 6 mo the I find her very different like cattle at moments, she knows im.alpha and listen when I don't like things.

      Fear biting is not uncommon among unsocialized dogs of all breeds. Work with a trainer

    Hi Nikole, how should i handle the transition with my 4 month old puppy from eliminatingi in the cage with pads to the outside world?

    • @DogoArgentinoUSA
      @DogoArgentinoUSA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucas I’m not certain I understand your set up! Do you mean you have pee pads inside the crate or inside the exercise pen?

    • @1lucas089
      @1lucas089 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DogoArgentinoUSA The crate.

    • @DogoArgentinoUSA
      @DogoArgentinoUSA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok so that’s not ideal because a crate should be a den that you DON’T want the dog to potty in AT ALL. That’s the purpose of crate training - you teach waste-control by using the dog’s instinct to avoid eliminating where it sleeps. I recommend reaching out to a local professional trainer because if you’ve been doing that the dog is likely in need of intervention.

    What did you feed your dog outside water and food and he spends a lot of time outside with you does he get potty trained faster

    • @DogoArgentinoUSA
      @DogoArgentinoUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dogos need to grow their bladders to become potty trained. Their bowels and bladders are adult sized at about 6 months.

    There's an issue with breeders not talking about dogos having a weak bladder. It's definitely there in the breed.

    How many times do you have to take the puppy out during the night, is it every two hours or so like during day time or can that be longer?

    • @DogoArgentinoUSA
      @DogoArgentinoUSA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on age but when very young it was every two hours because they couldn’t hold it longer - it would have been impossible for them to do longer.

      I'm taking my puppy to the bathtub in the middle of the night. It beats picking her up &running going down 2 flights of steps and waiting in the cold. I just rinse the pee down the drain and we go back to sleep.
      Maybe she'll learn to go potty in there 😂😂

    Hiiii i saw a beautiful pup 6 months from a shelter he is 75% Dogo he was abandoned in Texas and been living in the streets (that’s what they say) ... can i still use umbilical cord?
    Can I still crate train him and potty train per your directions? I want make sure he is leashed train so he isnt dragging me around the block...Besides your videos are there any books you would recommend. I get him next week and I’m super excited but I want him to be well trained & im super duper new to this.

    I just got an 8 week old dogo and he is peeing outside but not pooping. I will take him outside and he will pee and I’ll give him a treat and say good boy but the second we get inside he poops. How can I get him to poop outside??

    • @DogoArgentinoUSA
      @DogoArgentinoUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Feeding treats triggers pooping. Remember at 8w he is like a two year old kid - almost no control.
