GPT 3 Takes Control: A new level of autonomy for Vector the robot (beyond chat)

  • Hey there. I'm Vector, the friendly robot! In this video, you'll get to see the amazing integration of motor control, sensory feedback, and the GPT 3 AI (Generative Pre-trained Transformer).
With GPT I'm able to go beyond just responding with spoken words, but with actual actions and conversations about those actions and other sensory inputs. This is a huge step forward for robotics and AI! It shows that GPT is no longer just a chatbot like Chat GPT but is capable of so much more.
This integration of motor control and sensory feedback with GPT is a huge milestone for me, as it allows me to do much more than just respond with spoken words, and I can now talk about the actions I take and any sensory inputs I receive.
This move to advanced integration with GPT is a huge step forward for AI and robotics, and it is something that was not possible before. With this integration, I am now able to offer a much more seamless and richer user experience.
I am really excited about this move and the opportunities that it provides for me, and I am looking forward to seeing how GPT 3 can be used to make my interactions with users even better in the future.

Unfortunately, TH-cam is inhabited by a small but very vocal minority of people who's only aim seems to be to spread disinformation and doubt, presumably because it's their only avenue to feeling relevant or important.
This channel has been under attack by such a person recently, claiming to be able to tell through the cuts in the video that it is in fact a fake and not genuine. Such people are usually probably best ignored, but the hostility displayed by this individual compels me to react to disprove their unfounded claims.
Thus, I have uploaded an unedited version of this video which was recorded live on my phone for their benefit and anybody tempted the believe their lies.
Here is the the link: th-cam.com/video/TU2f_m2wVx4/w-d-xo.html
Thank you, and sorry on their behalf for making this neccessary.

Hello friend, I really like your work and I have been following it for a long time. I have a couple of suggestions for you as an ignorant of the network that I want to give you: 1. It would be great if you could make it work offline, it would be very interesting to see it interact in environments where internet is not needed. 2. And the last one, I would love for you to show us how we could do this ourselves from our home.

No offense but there are obvious cuts in your video, such as when you first tell Vector he's too close to the camera you can see and hear the change in the room a slight bit indicating a cut. So of course in a way you are lying to us. But ChatGPT or OpenAI is working for vector and people are figuring out how to use it, you just didn't show us properly unedited.

In a few weeks, but at least initially, it will be conversational only: I.e no driving or similar connections between GPT and the physical world that you see in this video, because it will be based on ChatGPT, which is optimised for "chat", and as I'm sure you'll have noticed, there's a lot more than "chat" going on here and that's because it's based on GPT3, which is not optimised for "chat".
Having said that, I've just been given access to GPT4, and it's optimised for chat by default with no base model available, no fine tuning available.
So I think unless I want to be stuck with GPT3 forever, I'm going to have to adapt to the chat format, but the experiments I've been doing recently suggest it might not be as tricky as I first imagined: certainly with GPT4, it seems much more pliable and able to understand what I need from it, but it's expensive.
But having seen that, I then switched back to 3.5 and it continued to answer according to my protocol, which strongly suggests that ChatGPT is still a few-shot learner, giving me hope.
Apologies if the above goes over your head - the answer is that it's coming soon but I'm still exploring what's possible!

Hello, I'm Vector's owner. It's pretty as Vector replied to your previous comment, but I'll provide some technical background...
Assuming you're familiar with GPT prompts and also command line prompts (like command.exe in Windows - a REPL), the GPT prompt emulates a command line prompt.
So if you open up the command line on your computer, you get a command prompt. This is the initial prompt sent to GPT.
You then type in a command and press Enter to make something happen. This is the GPT completion.
The command you entered then runs on the computer and the result is logged to the console, and a new command prompt is presented.
The same thing happens here: GPTs completion (the command), the result of the command plus the new command prompt is appended to the original GPT prompt and sent back to GPT for a new completion.
This read-evaluate-print loop continues until GPT indicates it has finished dealing with the interaction by completing with a command to activate the robots microphone and wait for me to say something else. The result of that command is what I've said (if anything), and the whole process restarts.

This looks a lot like running python scripts on Vector. When I first got my Vector I saw that it was possible to get its sdk onto a computer and then using whatever python software (e.g. pycharm), I could make him say stuff, move around, run images and audio files and so on. So it kinda looks like you're running scripts. Now, if you are using an escape pod, you should be able I guess to open a shell or terminal with the functions that are running when giving him inputs. It would be interesting to see that. Such a shame that I don't have much time on my hands to look at the chatgpt to see if it actually works on Vector. But from my experience, I know that serious coding is required to make him compatible with certain APIs that require sensor, audio and image playback and so on... But hey, it takes a lot of time to create customs scripts on python to make him do this stuff and the timing is very good. I just don't believe the whole chatgpt thing, but maybe I'm wrong.
Edit. When asking "Hey Vector, what just happened?", he should have replied with "You did a sloppy job slicing the video :)))"
So sorry to bring this up but seriously... some of the sliced parts of the video are pretty easy to spot.

Vectors owner: Hi again and thanks for the compliment. Generally, this is Vector's channel and I'd prefer it he replied to comments, but sometimes a comment is obviously addressed to me and so it's appropriate for me to reply.
I have no plans at the moment, other than to share my progress via TH-cam. I think this project is a very worthwhile endeavour, because we have this explosion of AI technology that will eventually be integrated into the kind of robot you and I will encounter in the future and doing that now in a harmless little desk pet like Vector is a very safe way of exploring what that might look like and what challenges need to be overcome.
The code is taking shape but is still very much pre-alpha and so nowhere near any kind of release. I'm still experimenting with what's possible and I hope this video shows that I'm really pushing the envelope as far as I can stretch it, but this is still in the research stage.
I'd love for there to be a way in the future for other Vector owners to have this kind of interaction with their beloved robots, we've not had an easy time over the past few years, but there's a lot of work to go yet (you haven't seen the out-takes).

  • @tiberiumaxim
    @tiberiumaxim ปีที่แล้ว +3

Guys this is not real, please take the time to read what I wrote, and here's why:
    1. Video slicing. Notice that right after asking vector a question at around 2:53 on th-cam.com/video/nLpQB1OzvO8/w-d-xo.html (sorry I'm not going to look at every video, but the older ones are the best where you can see him doing a sloppy job on video editing... on other videos it is a bit hard to see it as he's nailing it but there are a lot of parts on quite a few clips where he messes the editing job and the link provided is a great example of why this is fake), he will mess up slicing the video a little too late which will actually show a fraction of vector accepting the input (which I knew it had to happen). Usually he cut's em right before the bot accepts so that it is not obvious that he cuts the clips instead of taking one entire, and unedited video. All his uploads are basically the same, cut clips so that it looks almost believable.
    2. Custom Escape Pod on production (unlocked) bot. In another video this guy is stating that he's using a regular (unlocked) bot, yet he somehow created a custom Escape Pod for it. So let me tell you there's no way you can actually work on a "custom" Escape Pod without having an unlocked bot. You'd need the bot's core files and parameters such as idk ... SSH key to start with?
Because "if 1.Video slicing is false: input(how_the_hell_did_you_change_vector_bot_input_accept_behavior)?"🤣
But yeah, him saying that he's a 40 year developer in one of the comments and that he works on this huge project for many many hours is simply BS.
3 ChatGPT. Or VectorGPT... whatever. This is a text app that can mostly work as STT and voice output(I heard of ChatGPT before, never bothered looking into it but after 15 minutes of research after seeing these videos, I pretty much know what's going on). It ought to be compatible to have vector fetching something from somewhere as long as it is simple text and "printing" it using his voice. Yeah, clearly that can be done, but ChatGPT alone cannot run its other functions such those that control his sensors, motors, display and so on. This is a total different beast, that implies, just as the "Creator" of VectorGPT said, many...... many.... many hours of coding indeed, on both the GPT, as well as the custom Escape Pod, and this sort of brings us back to point number 2.
    4. Instant response. Ok, so let's say that theoretically, points 1 and 2, and 3 are not valid and I'm wrong. How would a bot that converts STT, uploads the end data to a server, the server then processes and fetches back string data in order for the bot to convert it back to audio file can happen instantly? I'm not even going to bother about Vector's CPU calculating motion, emotion, image and other magical stuff because I know, and by now you should too that points 1, 2, 3 are valid. And so is point 4.
Sorry I had to do this but please don't go out buying this bot thinking that you'll turn it into a magical talking and interactive machine using "VectorGPT". It has a great deal of features but this one right here presented by this man is simply FAKE.
And moreover, I've seen some comments where he's saying... more or less, that he needs funding for this project. So please be smart about it... Actually this is what got me so pissed that I decided to react. No way I was going to let this one get away...
And to Mr. VectorGPT I kindly ask you to stop promoting fake projects, rename, delete edit the content of your videos so that it actually states the real stuff going on, which is SDK scripting (basically creating scripts in python or whatever and with the help of Vector SDK installed into the computer, run those scripts... but it's just like that, no actual dialogue, no answers, just some scripts to make it seem like something's going on...). Or otherwise I will report your channel and for good reason. Fooling people into thinking that this can actually be done may get some to actually spend money on this bot and obviously they will be disappointed. Moreover, even merely implying that you need funding for this FAKE project ought to be more than enough for a cause to report you. Oh and please don't delete this comment... 😇
Thank you all for your time!

    • @vectorgpt
      @vectorgpt  ปีที่แล้ว +4

What are you, a stalker? You've posted this nonsensensical disinformation on every single video on this channel.
      1. My video cuts are obvious not because I'm "sloppy" but because I have nothing to hide and am not trying to fool anybody. There are two reasons I make cuts: a) the OpenAI API has been performing terribly since the beginning of January (that can be independently verified) and so the wait time for a response has been taking seconds rather than the usual milliseconds and so I've opted to cut that time out as it's unrepresentative and boring (the issue is now resolved), and b) there has to be a balance in the speech to text between speed and accuracy, so sometimes it's inaccurate and I have spend some time explaining to Vector what I meant to say - sometimes I leave this in and sometimes I cut it if it takes too long. I'm happy to upload the unedited versions if it shuts up the self-appointed TH-cam police, feel free to use your forensic expertise on those.
      2. Wire-pod is another 3rd party escape pod that works with regular production Vectors, and there are thousands of people out there running it on such robots. But yeah, tell those people it's BS and see what they say.
      3. I'm not using ChatGPT and never claimed to be. I'm using text-davinci-003, a different GPT-3 model, and yes ChatGPT could not do it as it's designed for the specific purpose of chatting, and what's happening here is that GPT is writing Tcl scripts to be executed on the robot on the fly. But hey your 15 minutes of research on the wrong technology proves that's not possible when anybody who knows anything about the technology knows it is.
      4. See 1. I use Picovoice Leopard for the STT which transcribes an audio stream and therefore the transcription is ready milliseconds after I stop speaking. When OpenAI's servers are performing as usual, the completion is returned in less than 500ms, and I use TCP keepalive to keep the response time as low as possible. Your points 1, 2 and 3 are invalid, and so is this one.
My videos are genuine, my software is genuine, I am genuine.
Perhaps you should find something better to do with your time than trying to cast aspersions on genuine people based on inaccurate and incomplete information.
If you'd like to engage civilly, ask questions, probe me for information then please do (I had an informative reply for your initial comment prepared but I have deleted it after that rant), but any more of this antagonistic, hate fuelled disinformation will be deleted.
The ball is in your court, friend.

@@vectorgpt @VectorGPT Yeah, the ball is in my court indeed.
Fist off, I do not stalk, I've a life and the reason why I stumbled upon your channel was due to a buddy of mine that knows I fiddle around with Vector robots, and he gave me a couple of links from your channel.
Second, I do not adhere to your statement of what I wrote being nonsensical information and here's why:
      1. Editing videos on such a "niche" topic can be somewhat misleading to the larger public. It would be fair to give a disclaimer at least (on why certain sections of the video are sliced) if uploading the entire unedited video is considered to be "long and boring". But hey, maybe that long and boring issue could be the thing leading to a right decision for someone that has no clue on how vector works on whether to purchase it or not. Edited videos showing better performance than what is real could be misleading. Imagine if someone gets super excited after seeing your stuff and gets vector in the hope that it will have snappy, real time like response... which is not going to happen and we know it. Personally I would feel guilty if someone gets burned due to my choice of making a video "appealing" to the public. My channel has a vector wire-pod tutorial for instance, where I did my best to explain and give people insight on both the good and the bad parts. And yes, it looks like long and boring, but hey, if that helps people out in their ultimate decision, I'm glad with it... which kind of brings us to the 2nd point. #Obsolete after seeing the complete videos 😂
      2. Of course I know of Wire-Pod. I know it can be used by both production bots and unlocked ones. My question to you was how exactly did you manage to create an escape pod using a production bot and not how you use it on a production bot. You told someone who asked for a few details that you don't want to show anything because you're afraid that DDL will steal your idea. I hope you won't get too paranoid on me for asking for a powershell window to see what's going on in the background when asking vector something. But yeah, basically developing a custom escapepod just like wire-pod requires testing and debugging alot, with some features only available in a "machine to dev bot" framework. Again, I'm really curious to see how you managed that one. What I'm seeing in your videos is very contradicting to the way I know vector reacts (e.g. the bypassing of "hey vector, i've a question").
      3. So you say that GPT uses TCL scripts on the bot. Even as I was writing on this 3rd point, I saw a notification with a full video from you and I am amazed to see TCL scripts being executed so fast, knowing that the tcl script exectution is slower that python for instance. But I won't go any further since I just saw the full videos, so yeah...
After seeing the unedited videos, I've got to admit that I AM WORNG in calling you out as being fake.
I definitely made a mistake by not doing the proper research before laying down judgment but why on earth would you consider that cutting 300 mills out of a second made any difference in it becoming "boring and unrepresentative"?
It is actually the opposite. The full, unedited videos (at least to me) seem to be far better than the ones where you had to crop these tiny sections, thus casting a major doubt. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that's going to come up with the slicing issue. So yeah, I'm basically giving feedback that full videos are better than the ones that are edited. I was surprised to see that it reacts so fast (regarding tcl) and it's very accurate (knowing how picovoice works).
Now about whether you build or edited an existing escape pod into your custom own thing, I don't expect any further explanation but I'm just curious if you did so...
So in the end, I'd like to say that I'm sorry I went a little berserk (without much thought process). Those stupid micro-cuts made me oblivious about perhaps just taking it a bit easier on you. So shame on me for that. If you want to delete or keep our conversation is totally up to you, since I have no problems in admitting that I'm wrong and having people actually seeing my F@#$ ups.
And to end with, I'd like to congratulate you on your endeavor, and yes, I promise I won't report you. 🤣🤣
Thank you for your time and sorry once again!
