Insurance companies are just as bad as the casinos. The house always wins. The insurance company will only pay for a used transmission. The salvage yard specifies that the seals and filter need to be replaced otherwise the warranty is voided. Does the insurance company cover the labor for this extra work or do they consider that included in the R&R of the transmission? I feel sorry for the body shops as the insurance companies really beat those guys up.
I'm an adjuster for an extended warranty company. The basic pt warranty don't cover suspension items engine mount are always lumped in with the engine coverage. The amount of coverage people get is based on mileage and make and year on the vehicle.
I worked at an independent shop that used third party warranty as a huge source of income because the shop was located in a low income area. And many of the warranties were awful. Some were fine though. But after working there I will never buy a non Toyota or Honda. Maybe Subaru or Mazda but that is it.

Dealership I work at uses CNA and from what I've seen, they are excellent
