- The 5th Annual MSU AgeAlive Awards Ceremony was held Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 4-5 pm and recognized aging-related research and initiatives promoting lifelong wellbeing of older adults and others. Opening remarks provided by Joyce deJong, D.O., dean, MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine. Clare Luz, Ph.D., MSU AgeAlive director emeritus and associate professor, Family and Community Medicine, MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine and Lisa Richey, MSU AgeAlive acting director as emcees.
This year’s event included two Research in Aging Awards presented to the following MSU Faculty members for their outstanding aging-related research:
Fatemeh Saeidi-Rizi, Ph.D., assistant professor of Landscape Architecture in the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction for her research and contributions to examine the relationship between the built environment and humans' health and wellbeing throughout the aging process.
Daniel Vélez Ortiz, M.S.W., Ph.D., associate professor in the MSU School of Social Work, College of Social Science, for his research focused on integrating community mental health literacy and services into community spaces where older adults, especially Latino groups, naturally gather.
The annual Intergenerational Award was presented to:
Kinship Care Resource Center (KCRC) in the MSU School of Social Work for its intergenerational work serving kinship care families across the state by providing information and referrals to resources and services for caregivers and the children they are raising. Beth Lindley, L.M.S.W., director, will receive the award on behalf of KCRC.
A Legacy Award was presented to:
Joseph W. Hess, M.D., for his lifelong dedication to improving the quality of life and wellbeing for individuals and societies, at both the local and global level, as a physician, educator, advocate, and leader benefiting individuals of all ages.
