Did the black belt hold back, because if not then he is just an asshole. When at that level, and get into a sparing match with either A) someone lower ranked then you, or B)someone much younger then you to where physical strength would greatly impact the match(like a teen getting paired up with a 8 year old) then you absolutely hold back to their level. You may give them a challenge to rise up to, as it's a great way to learn, but you arnt a souls boss, and don't need to make it impossible, or injure your opponent. Also, generally in sparring matches you will hold back a bit either way, as you arnt trying to exclusively injure your opponent again.
No matter how much the black belt had to obey his coach, if he went full force than he is also guilty. If I put myself at his place - I never ever would have been able, like physically able, to injure someone who is so much weaker than me. My hands would go limp, and my movements would slow down, and there's nothing the coach could do about it.
That chart doest mean black belt in 2 years. It means it takes 2-3 months for a yellow and then 3 more months for orange and then 3 more months for green. It takes a year just for a green belt. It takes about 10 years for a black.
In korea kids earn black belt in 1 year...also if you do WT teakwondo...kukkiwon only recognize geups and dans...there isn't a time requirement for black belt only a knowledge and skill requirement
It takes abt 2 years to earn a blackbelt in TKD. Not a lot of material to learn. You can do it in abt 1 year if you go to Korea. There you train everyday all day. That's all you do for that year. In the US we made it complicated do to our social structure and laziness. Going only 3 nights a week for 1 hour classes gets you nowhere and takes forever to advance to blackbelt. And we added a few belt colors to lengthen the journey and to empty the pocket book for those 3 years. Here in the US it more of a marketing system.
I'm a taekwondo practicioner with lots of sparring experiences. I've seen lots of noobs get humbled by the higher rank belts when they first spar but not like until this far. Idk what she did but I feel like the blackbelt have overstepped his limit for this one, even for something like disciplining the yellow belt. Its not about the gender, its just the blackbelt have all the means to destroy the yellow belt and he ruthlessly chose to do so in a "sparring match". Sure, to spar means u need to be ready to get hit too, but like imagine Mike Tyson going all out on a random rookie boxer in a sparring match, its just overkill. Just feels wrong to me.

As a black belt in krav maga, I have had to do this before on both sides, I was a white belt and I had to go up against a Brown belt,. I left with a couple bruises in my broken thumb and then 2 years later. I was a black bell and they decided to make me. Spar a blue boat about 2 ranks down from a black belt. He left perfectly fine because I knew self-control, because if you're leaving somebody with bruises after sparring, you're not spying right.

I am a 2nd degree black belt, soon to be 3rd. Basically black belts should only spar other black belts. And color belt should stick to sparring each other
No. I been thru a few martial arts. Most of them you will spar with blackbelts. Both need to learn. Blackbelts mainly so they learn more control and how to gauge. Colored belts are inexperienced and you need someone to learn from. When I did TKD and a orange belt I fought all ranks. There was always 1 rule. You were never allowed to do higher level techniques or strikes higher than that colored belts level. And the blackbelts need to learn since you have to learn to teach at 1st degree. The chief instructor in charge is the person responsible for maintaining the control in the sessions. And sparring should be fun. Light nothing hard and heavy. There is other types of trading and sparring you do for the more serious levels. Like one is the closed/locked door policy. Or the blackbelt only class. Blackbelts and colored belts need to interact on all levels.
It’s fine to spar a black belt at a lower belt, however it probably should only be done if: 1. The lower belt has no one else to spar / they need to learn or need experience with a black belt 2. The black belt controls themselves and doesn’t go too hard In this case, neither were taken to consideration
Honestly I sparred people with blue belts twice my size in jujitsu and yeah it’s pretty easy to get injured on accident. One dude scissor kicked my leg cause he wanted to experiment (it was illegal but he didn’t know that) and I was limp there for days. He apologized profusely and I held no grudge over it
@@TomBradshaw-ot9zbthe senior has the responsibility. I used to do kickboxing (Japanese style), got to purple which was one below black in that style. Having control, understanding your place in the ranks, and caring for the lower ranks was just as important as being able to roundhouse kick
Why in the world were they even letting them fight? Isn't it a strict rule to never make girls take on boys? Unless the girl was YEARS ahead in experience, this shouldn't have been a matchup. My PE instructor literally would rather make the female students have multiple sparring partners than make them partner up with a guy, cuz he knows the gap in physical stats would be horrendous.
Eeh I only have about a year in training in kickboxing and this is only my personal current experience (so keep in mind this is probably different depending on the gym or something) but we have no issues with allowing both genders to sparr against each other just remember that you need to hold back on weaker opponents and that you are sparring not trying to kill each other lol (there's also a BJJ dojo near were I live that went to once since they were offering 1 free session for people so they could get more folks interested in coming back, and from what I can recall they didn't have issues with allowing the girls and boys to sparr with each other ether, i don't think gender really matters when it comes to training and I think it's pretty good that way tbh.)
Because that's a social construct. The rule in martial arts is that you are supposed to fight those with your belt. If you're a black belt, you should only be able to fight a black belt and not someone who is clearly new
My family used to run a Martial Arts studio before it had to get shut down because of Covid. Not all schools have their belt colors in the same order as well as may have different colors or patterns, some schools don't have the two-tone belts and some schools have camo belts, and also black belts have different degrees and it takes way longer than two years to get to black (I studied under may father for maybe five years and I believe I only got to red) That said, the black belt should know how to hold back their strength to make it even, especially if they were their instructor.
...here in México it doesn't matter if the girl is a triple dan black belt, we don't mess with girls. I miss when this used to be common knowledge in the States as well...
Well because it isn't about gender. Black belts don't go full power with lower ranks and he only went full power due to the instructor asking him to punish her because she said no to his creepy advances.

I am black belt in taekwondo with 5 years of experience and what I can tell you is that a master has to supervise all times and make sure the other person is in the able state to fight. The difference should be fine as long as the black belt controls their power on the yellow belt. Otherwise, this shouldn’t be allowed because of the belt difference.
As a former Black Belt student under my master Ken back in Texas we was always Taught to “NEVER GO FULLPOWER ON LOWER OPPONENTS” it took me 6 years to become a 2 degree black belt studying Karate, Mu tai, Kung fu, and Krav Maga and if we were to ever go overboard on our opponents we were punished

Also, generally in sparring matches you will hold back a bit either way, as you arnt trying to exclusively injure your opponent again.

The time on each is the time from the current rank to the next rather than from the start to that time right?
So in 2 years you get to the brown belt?
In korea kids earn black belt in 1 year...also if you do WT teakwondo...kukkiwon only recognize geups and dans...there isn't a time requirement for black belt only a knowledge and skill requirement
Isn't the black belt broken up into its own set of tiers too?
It takes abt 2 years to earn a blackbelt in TKD. Not a lot of material to learn. You can do it in abt 1 year if you go to Korea. There you train everyday all day. That's all you do for that year.
In the US we made it complicated do to our social structure and laziness. Going only 3 nights a week for 1 hour classes gets you nowhere and takes forever to advance to blackbelt. And we added a few belt colors to lengthen the journey and to empty the pocket book for those 3 years. Here in the US it more of a marketing system.

It’s fine to spar a black belt at a lower belt, however it probably should only be done if:
1. The lower belt has no one else to spar / they need to learn or need experience with a black belt
2. The black belt controls themselves and doesn’t go too hard
In this case, neither were taken to consideration
Honestly I sparred people with blue belts twice my size in jujitsu and yeah it’s pretty easy to get injured on accident. One dude scissor kicked my leg cause he wanted to experiment (it was illegal but he didn’t know that) and I was limp there for days. He apologized profusely and I held no grudge over it

Yea boys and girls shouldnt fight each other
Specially not with one being yellow belt and the other one being black belt
