Sword Snow Stride - it is very artfully done - tho' they have only filmed about a third of the book. I don't recall how he got chained under water - other than Lao Huang did that decades ago. Lao Huang has been the Prince's 'walk about' buddy for 3 years and the Prince had no idea that his coachman had martial arts let alone being one of the top sword gods in the world. BTW - the music is really good.
He's immortal.. the chains are bound by powerful spells.. like Sun Wu Kong alive lived 500 years under mountain chained by mere paper spell to ponder his mistake.. teach patience lol
The man chained underwater had become a buddy of Xu Feng Nian over the years. He stopped a 'bad' guy who was trying to kill and drown the prince in a previous scene. And no - the underwater guy takes over as body guard for the prince for a while. It gets even more interesting as it goes on. 😁
No - these are archetypes - stories which are recognized across cultural lines. Loyalty, love, family, anxiety while looking for life's paths are all recognized by all human cultures. How the story is told is the true art. Some are more artful and more inspiring than others.

The Prince explains it in another episode. Something like eating the fish's air bladder and using his 'inner strength'. This is a fantasy after all.
