    Hi.nice , very detailed video.....may I ask a question....what about if I would replace 6v for 12v motor ...those r usually 12-18 volts motors..and connect...18v bosch battery ....is it possible....?...is car going to be quicker /stronger ...or works for longer ....
    I do have 6v audi r8 spyder ride on car toy.
    Cheers

      What will make the car faster is the higher voltage battery. The reason you should also upgrade the motor is if you run an 18v battery with a 6v motor it will burn out. The 18V Bosch battery with the 12-18v motor will definitely make it faster than the 6v system that it comes with. Good luck!

    hi
    I just asked, I noticed that you didn't change the electronic connected to the led lights, which is designed at 6v, won't that be affected because you changed to a stronger volt? im just wondering if this technique wont be damage the other electronic in the long run..

    • @diydad2
      @diydad2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, No I did not have any issues. All the lights and every worked perfectly. I believe there is also a 12V version of the car which could be why it still works.

    Awesome video, very detailed. I just unboxed mine and the soldered motor connection came off underneath just like your video but on the other end. Do you think it’s fixable? I don’t have soldering skills but want to try fixing it.

      Did the piece snap off? If it did I would say it's better to just replace the motor. They go for like $10 on Amazon or eBay. Might not be worth the headache

    where did you purchase the parts from? I think if you had left the 6 volt motor in, it would have doubled the speed? By converting to 12 volts, it didn't affect any of the lights? Where did you get the new 12 volt charger from? Thank-you.

    • @diydad2

      Good afternoon, I purchased the new motor and battery on Ebay. And I believe you are correct that the speed would be greater with both motors. I will be reinstalling the motor in the summer to test performance.

    Hi DIYDad, thank you so much for the video. I have the same BMW i8 and I upgraded the 6v battery to 12v but I didn't replace the motor. The car does go faster but after about 10 minutes of use, the whole car (motor, lights, steering) shuts off for a few seconds. I would have to press the power button to shut if off and turn it back on. I think its possible overheating but the motor does not feel hot at all. Do you think replacing the motor with a 12v one would fix the problem?

    • @diydad2
      @diydad2  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. I have 2 small batteries in. Both is 6v 4.5a and both of them are dead. I am searching for a new battery. What I wonder is if it is possible to plug one big 12v battery instead 2 times small 6v + 4.5a battery?
    On charging socket there is a warning like 12v 700mah..
    What exactly i have to buy i dont know because there are a lot of 12v batteries but with the different mah levels.

      Hey, as long as your battery control unit can handle the battery control module can handle the 12v unit you should be good. The 700mah is the battery capacity, the more mah the more "the battery will last"

    Why not just use the 6v motor and 12v battery? Looking at the 12v motor you seem to have a low speed one. 10000 rpm. Surely if you wanted 12v for speed you would have needed at 30000 rpm motor?
    I have an i8 12v. But only because it has 2 motors at 6v each. I would have to get another 12v battery to make 24v. But split it would only be 12v to each motor.
