I think the judges rightly punished Tecia for basically running away for the whole fight. You can constantly hear one of her coaches saying 'Get out of there' which led to Dern trying to chase her all the time. Tecia tried to hit and run, but this left the decision in the hands of the judges. When she came in, she often led with her head which could have ended badly for either fighter (e.g, concussion or cuts above the eyes). It's too bad because Torres looked like she was really in shape, and the fight was hers to win if she was more aggressive. What a battle it would have been for the fans to see if she had stood her ground more often. Instead, it's just frustrating to watch Dern try to chase and engage Tecia for the whole fight. Despite this strategy, Dern still managed a few take downs, and I think she did just enough to win the fight.
You have to remember defense is very important in fighting. You have to know when to go on offense but it’s more important when to go on defense. Tortes escaped Dern’s holds, and scored more punches and kicks. Torres was robbed without a doubt.

The best fighters use their own strengths to attack the weaknesses of their opponent. This often results in a stoppage, which the fans like to see. It's better for the winning fighter because it takes the decision out of the hands of the judges. It can also result in a bonus if the winner does something special. How about a submission for Tecra? That would really have been impressive. Instead, she decides to run for the whole fight, which says that she really doesn't believe she's strong enough to win.
At 2:31 in the third round Torres almost knocked Dern out with that kick to the face, she should have unleashed her fists on Dern right after that then she would have won easily by knockout, I have no doubt about that. But she missed that opportunity.
