Thanks for the tips Graeme! Really nice photos and like your vlogging style too. I too am planning a trip to the Kelso Dunes, but it's a big ordeal as I live in Canada! Anyway, I also have a Canon 5D and I really appreciate seeing your setting on the LCD screen, the lens you use, the f stop and where you focus. You look cold; when is a good time to visit there? I'm thinking of late winter or early spring.

Hi Mary, Thanks for the comment. Kelso is a terrific place and relatively quiet compared to some of the dunes in Death Valley. Well worth a visit. It can get quite cold in winter but that's when the best skies are typically. I'd probably suggest Feb or March. You can park and camp at the dunes for free. It's about a 45-minute walk into the dunes themselves. I have recently moved to Seattle so they are also a little bit harder to get to for me too. Please let me know if you need any other info. I have spent a good amount of time in this area. And thanks or subscribing :)

@@GraemeSomerville Perfect! Thanks for the timing and camping tips too. I live just north of you. Seattle is such a beautiful area and especially the Olympic National Park.

Hi, How do you blend the overexpose sky and the final result the sand and the sky has a balance exposure? I saw you took 2 pictures, and did you combine both of them together? and if yes how do you do that?

Hi There, I imported both photos into Photoshop as two layers and aligned them both. I used a layer mask with the correctly exposed sky underneath. I brushed in the sky in (revealing it from the bottom layer) using a soft brush. There is a way to do this using luminosity masks too but that's a little complicated for me.

I really want to go there and do some photography I was wondering how long did it take you to get all the way to the top of the dunes.
