I had the same ratcheting sound at the trunk/hatch latch on my 2017 Golf Wolfsburg 4 door. Was researching the issue and came across your video. I ordered the latch (5G6827505B9B9) from Ebay, and the tools you described from Amazon. I was able to do the repair in under 15 minutes thanks to your video. As a side note I just unsnapped enough of the clips to expose the latch bolts without taking the entire panel off. Other than that it was exactly as described. Thank you for making the video!

I just did this repair today on my 2015 VW Golf TDI SE. I second the idea of unsnapping enough of the inner panel just to get access to the 8mm triple square latch attachment bolts. I think it took me all of 25 minutes.

Thanks very helpful. However, how did you put back everything? Do you have any advice/technique to share. I have difficulties to put the cover back.

Thank you for the comment. I memorized the locations of the pins and had everything back there. It may be difficult to reinstall the panel straight back due to interface with some cables. The panel may be tilted to insert.

Thank you for the helpful tutorial! I had the same issue with my Mk7 GTI and the replacement latch resolved the issue.
I had no issues taking the panel off but I am not able to get the panel back on and was quite difficult to get it to fit back into place. Do you have any suggestions on getting the trunk panel back on?

Hello Vince, were you able to put it back ? I have the same case. Thanks

@@IA-er2or Yes, I ended up taking the smaller adjacent panels off and it was much easier to put back together.

Here’s the question mine won’t open at all. I don’t even know if I remove every panel from inside the car if it would be able to be broken open.
