Can't wait for you to introduce Avatar Colorado Blue Spruce, can you imagine planting them close by? The contrast of blue and golden colors are just unbelievable!
That's the spirit! Thinking about how plants contrast and compliment each other is what separates good gardens from GREAT gardens. The artistry of gardening is a special, creative skill that says so much about the people who devise the combinations. Thank you for your lovely suggestion. 🙂
It is (not surprisingly) very popular, and the chances are that it should be available at plenty of our partnering garden centers this coming spring: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ But, it is a new selection that some may not know about yet - so it would probably be a good idea to call or inquire about ahead of time, just to make sure! Knowing that you are interested in something definitely helps retailers to know which varieties to get and how many of them to keep in stock, so it never does any harm to let them know of anything you might be interested in. 😉💚👍
Wow! You are obviously "on the ball"..., this is a relatively new plant that most people don't even know about yet - so well done! Wishing you many years of good health to enjoy it!👏
@@jovannijosephmortgages we moved to a new property, couldn't take it with us. So upset.... I'll find a new one to plant in ground when I get a chance.
@@pc0086 how tall was it went you left vs when it was planted? Wanted to get something shorter than 10ft but like this variety. I’ve heard you can prune them back in height as they grow but I’m not sure about that…
Depends on the watering / feeding etc. they will (most likely) be a little slower in a container but not a whole lot! That said, having them close by (on a patio, deck, balcony or by the the front door) makes them easier and more convenient to do some regular "snipping"! So, keeping a pair of pruners (or even just scissors) handy means that the new growth can be frequently trimmed during the growing season to keep them extra bushy, compact and shapely. 😊💚👍

Our only experience with it is here in our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern US region: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ where the hardiness ratings are predominantly Zone 5 and warmer. In this region it performs really well, so while we are not able to provide exact guidance for your locality, we can tell you that it is rated as a zone 4 plant and therefore is likely to perform for you too, But, we hasten to add that it would be wise to check with your local garden centers (they will have a better understanding of your specific location and conditions), and if any doubt remains with exposure to wind driven desiccation, it would be a good idea to plant one or two "test" plants to gauge first.
Thanks for asking a great question😄. A sport is a spontaneous alteration in the DNA, for no apparent reason part of a plant will sometimes throw a shoot bud or flower that is different from the rest. In this case a green colored evergreen produced a yellow colored shoot that Jakub noticed in Poland. It could be a variegated shoot, a red rose suddenly producing a white flower, a small compact, dwarf part or a tall, thin slender shoot etc. What is interesting is that it happens quite frequently and most of the time it goes unnoticed! Nursery people and knowledgeable gardeners know to watch for them. So, keep your eyes "peeled", there could be an exciting new variety 🌲🪴🌿🌺🌹🏵lurking somewhere in your garden! 😉💚 Btw, congratulations to your brother-in-law for picking a good plant. It looks like he has a discerning eye for special things. I hope you both enjoy many years watching it grow and develop! ✅😁👍

It depends a lot on the pressures of deer population, the availability of alternative food sources and if deterent measures are in place (or not) but deer could browse on it - especially if the deer population is intense and there aren't any deterents in place. A hunngry deer herd with few other food sources available will try to eat almost anything that has caloric value

This is a Polish variety. Best regards from Poland
Thank you, we are very fortunate to have several really GREAT plants in our line up that originated in Poland. Keep them coming... 💚👏

Does it need a lot of sun to keep the color?
It does color up best in sunny conditions, and will take on more of lime green shades in shadier spots. 🙂

Groundcover
Not really, it is an upright grower and therefore not a ground cover item
