      +akshay rathore And also is confusing Britain the country, aka the it's people, and Britain the empire, with the opulent few, the elite, which has first subjugated it's own citizens, then moved on as an empire to subjugate others. Brits should not feel offended, nor guilty for something that they themselves did not commit. They should feel sympathy, realize they themselves are getting shafted as well and seek allegiance with the former slaves, with whom they share the common goal of a better life, free from this exploitation.

    We in India get to read a lot about problems of colonial legacy which i understand is
    1. The destruction of traditional educational systems in India where a lot of emphasis was laid on moral education and philosophy of life, the lack of which is having tumultuous effects in modern day society.
    2. Destruction of a sense of pride in one's culture,language,traditions and imposition of unnecessary english traits like eating with fork/spoon,dressing up in suits etc.
    3. Commodification of human beings, women in particular in corporate culture,fields of entertainment and showbizz.
    4. The careless boundary settlements done in sub continent like Ind-Pak border disputes,Ind-Bangladesh enclaves issue and so on which are a pain for govts even today.
    5. The alienation of certain parts of the country like the North East India being kept in protective areas for exploitation of human and natural resources and spread of missionary activities.
    If britain could provide solutions to these long standing problems they would deserve to stop the reparations.

India is widely divided between people who are billionaires ( people who couldn't care less about what is happening) affluent people ( those who like to ignore the non availability of services because they can afford it themselves) and the miserable poor. Unfortunately, the aid never reaches them. India spends around 70 billion pounds on welfare schemes and the British aid is merely 200 million pounds, it is not the money but the British Aid can make sure that 70 billion pounds are spent effectively and it reaches to the right people.

    The problem with reperations is:
    -How long do we go back? And there better be a damn good reason for whatever length of time.
    -How can we calcule how much wealth taken out when corruption was rife and documents are more than likely to be exploited and corrupted?
    -How can we factor in the positive outcomes in terms of wealth?
    -Who does the money go to? Especially with a lot of corrupt African governments that just take money from charities and keep it.
    -Why should the people in England suffer for the suffering of others caused by long dead people. Eye for an eye huh?
    -Where can we even direct money from with such failings in our own healthcare, millitary, education and councils?
    -Since much care is put into past suffering how can we be CERTAIN money we send to countries doesn't go into more suffering?
    These important questions seem to go overlooked by people just repeating "Britain's commited past crimes, we should pay" I don't deny the exploration of the past British empire, however if we start literally paying for the wrong doings of the past then how long before we arrest the children of criminals? It's the same logic. 'Your father caused the suffering of others, you should suffer.'

    2.The railways in India were built by the British only for the efficient and convenient transportation for of minerals and resources from their production/extraction site to the ports so that they could be further be carried to Britain by the ships. It was after independence that the Indian Govt' decided to remove a huge portion of " Goods Trains" and start building the passenger trains for the railway tracks .
    3. The British destroyed "the Great Indian Textile Industry" and also several other ones.
    I literally feel pity for this person as literally trying to speak the maximum number of lies a person can ever speak to hide the dark truth about his Country.

    • @andrewwilliams3137
      @andrewwilliams3137 ปีที่แล้ว

      You say "The British destroyed "the Great Indian Textile Industry". The world’s fourth-largest cotton textile mill industry emerged in Bombay and Ahmedabad in direct competition with Manchester. 'Between 1900 and 1930, the volume of handloom cloth production about doubled, even as the number of looms did not change. A substantial section of the handloom weaving industry in these years adapted successfully to serving urban consumers, especially, middle-class women consumers.
      The second source was the factory industry. Productivity per worker in factories was about four times that of a worker in the handicraft industries in 1900, though the gap narrowed to two-and-a-half times towards the end of the period. A rise in the proportion of factory industrial employment, therefore, added to productivity gain on average. Employment in factories in British India increased from less than one per cent of industrial employment in 1860 to 11 per cent in 1938'. Source: Inequality in Colonial India, Tirthankar Roy 2018 p11-12

    • @andrewwilliams3137
      @andrewwilliams3137 ปีที่แล้ว

      The handicraft industries were sometimes outcompeted or became obsolete. Changes were sure to happen at some point when India came in contact with the industrial revolution. For example it was cheaper for India to import iron & steel than make it itself. One of the biggest British exports to India alongside the railway engines was iron and steel, and due to production with economy of scale this was at prices the Indian market could not match. Here lies an example of 'deindustrialisation' in the C19th century. An extensive rural Indian smelting industry based on small scale charcoal pits was lost, but "the net effect of imported iron was not negative. It stimulated consumption and indirectly helped the blacksmith. In the nineteenth century, Indians consumed iron in greater quantity and variety than before". T. Roy
      Without coal India could not have a modern steel industry, but Britain created an Indian coal industry from nothing, a valuable natural resource for India. Tata Steel was founded by Indians in 1907 and is now one of the largest steel companies in the world.
