I've got a borador puppy the same age as Inertia and she got so excited about her first bath, that she now whines behind bathroom doors every time someone is taking a shower / bathing. When I let her in the shower with me, she goes nuts playing and chasing water :D I guess it's the lab spirit in her. She also never seems to get tired and naps very little, so we are progressing very slowly with the nail trimming. Thank you for these videos Zak, it's really fun and helpful to see, how other puppies learn about the world around them
@@orinko That is wonderful! Just take what Zak says with a pinch of salt and always allow for variable change. Your Puppy should start to be let off the lead and given responsibilities immediately. Zak has off lead anxiety so says to keep them on a lead for 1 year! This however is not normal and especially for a Lab! Hood luck with everything.
Zak, the only other thing I did to help with the bathing was to buy an inexpensive rubber bath mat to stand on which gives my pup more stability while she’s standing in the wet tub. Before the mat her feet kept sliding around and she wanted out, but now stable footing, no problems...
Thank you. This is an incredibly useful tip for those of us- like me- who have not had to tackle the bathing ritual yet. Ours is a three year old adopted lurcher- with a sweet disposition, classic prey drive, and love for all people and other dogs. He's a beauty with a long coat , super soft and colored like a tortoiseshell fox. Thing is, he's never been bathed before .Shocking ,but, hey!
She is doing wonderful! As a dog trainer, myself, I thank you and appreciate all of your uploads. I use a lot of your ideas and methods in my classes. Thank you for all your help!!🐕🐕🐕🐕
I trained my puppy in baths less treat wise, I kept him in the washroom as I ran the water, when he got curious he got attention then when the water was at the height I wanted I picked him up ( he was only 9 weeks so was very light ) and let his feet dangle in the water and it took 5-10 mins and he calmed down then I put him in, and got lots of pets when he was calm. He loves baths now and jumps in on his own even before the water is in the tube. He even plays with the water as it runs out of the tap XD
We are getting a new puppy soon, so I have been reading your book and my 8-year-old daughter and I have been watching your videos in preparation! She commented on how relaxed and calm you are with Inertia, that you speak quietly and take things very slowly. We're learning so much, thank you Zac! Greetings from us in The Netherlands.
@@toffi5710 Oh my goodness, how adorable! When do you get to pick up your new BFF? We are getting an Olde English Bulldogge! We lost our beloved Pitbull last September, it left our family heartbroken! We are excited to welcome our new little pup into our lives, more than enough love to go around! Woohooo

Puppies pick up on your energy and tone so I always treated my puppy like she was the sweetest (even when she was being a jerk) and kept cooing how pretty she is when brushed and now she lays on my lap and loves being brushed. Falls asleep and naps. ❤️🐶
EDIT: Okay, your tips are already working. I’m just slowing it down, less expectations and we’re both less stressed. - I look forward to these videos every week! I need to go back to basics with my 6 month old mini golden doodle and brushing. A near daily occurrence for this shaggy friend. What I did wrong was let him chew on whatever brush I wasn’t using. The ends are destroyed, less of a problem, the technique didn’t really work. Not afraid, but hates it, but that may just be his preference.
This man is so gentle and kind. Difficult to imagine he won't have the most brilliant, self- actualized and happy dog. Doesn't hurt that he has the most- potentially- clever, bright and happy pupper breed. He really understands the need to allow dogs to learn without pressure and loads of encouragement. Thank you for your videos, you have me hooked and I haven't received a single treat. Lol!
Oh my gosh! Is there anything cuter than a puppy, straight after a bath?! What a stinkin’ cutie pie! She did so good! Thank you for another great, fun and educational video! God bless and hugs to you, Bree and all the fur babies!☺️❤️
I love that you are getting her used to grooming her yourself. I groom my dog and I find it is a great way to build trust and bond. I'm loving the series.
Your videos have endlessly help us to train our beloved boy, Miller. We adopted him 3 years ago. He had a lots of behavioral issues. luckily, we found your channel and followed and still follow your training videos. His separation anxiety has gone away and he is doing pretty well. Your method of training dogs involving the positive reinforcement is the BEST method to train our baby. We have learned from your awesome and informative trainings that the Endless unconditional love and unlimited paiteince are two keys ingeridents to successfully train any dogs. I wish people out there use your method to train their babies instead of using correction collar and other stress and fear inducing training methods. We adore all the unlimited time, endless patience, and unconditional love you spend to train your beloved Inertia and to teach us acting the same way. Thank you infinitely!!!
I adopted my 5y/o dog from a family that rehomed him becuase he barked alot and didnt listen. From your videos (the past month) i have already managed to get him under control on walks, around the house as well as learning tricks. You have taught me how to communicate with dogs. My Dog is a smart boy who wasnt given the attention, I feel sorry that his previous owners gave up on such a special and smart dog.
Amazing! We got a border collie x kelpie puppy 3 weeks ago (11 weeks old now) and he is very energetic, biting, disobedient, etc. I’ve been watching your videos for only 2 days and trying your techniques with our pup and wow! He’s doing so well. Thank you so much for your videos.
This is my second time watching through the series as we got another new pup and still very much love the videos. They were super useful the first time and pretty much everything we tried to teach our first pup was learned as long as we were consistent. The things that we weren't consistent on are things that we still have to work on now, but it has helped with training the second one and being more consistent and meticulous. Thanks!
Literally watched this 3 hours too late. Damn. This is the most helpful training vid I've seen. It shows the real puppy life. Not already trained pups. Patience!!!!!!!!!
Inertia is very cute. And your videos are useful and fun without fail. I don't have a dog, but I'm applying your principles to train myself to take small easyy steps towards my own goals :-) Love the new series. Keep up all your good work Zach!
It took me 4 months of training to get my rescue dog used to the electric hair clippers and almost 10 months to get her okay with nail trimming. I used your techniques and advice from your book and almost 2 years later now, Maggie handles bath and grooming days like a champ. Hard to believe when I first brought her home she was afraid of everything that involved grooming.
Thanks. We have a stray found 6-8 month old puppy that’s not been claimed so it looks like she’s staying. I’m watching these again. Not starting as a really young puppy and having no idea as to her background is making things more difficult. She seems to be a Border Collie/Sheltie mix so she’s smart and wants to please us. Knowing it may take more time helps. I appreciate your comments.
Zak! I adopted a street dog who is maybe 8 months the same week you started posting with Inertia. It's been so helpful having these videos break down exposing my new dog to things. He didn't even know yes or no when I got him! We still have far to go with obedience training but he's doing great and so much less timid than when I first adopted him. He's such a delight. Thank you for these breakdowns
I have a second new puppy and love all your techniques and positive instructions and lessons. Thank you for sharing all your training tips and life trips with us. You truly are an amazing trainer and I will always take all your training as part of my daily life with my pups.
