Greg Davies's father made sure that his son was born on Welsh soil so that when Greg became a rugby international, he would play for Wales. Fortunately for comedy, Greg showed little talent for rugby, but he retains a sense of connection to his Welsh roots and, two years after his dad's death, wants to know more about them. Greg gets more than he bargained for when he identifies a wayward great-grandfather but is rewarded when the trail leads further back to the deepest Welsh roots anyone could wish for.

I know several instances in my family where grandparents raised grandchildren when one or both of their parents died young. My great grandfather lost a wife a few days after she gave birth to his first child. Great grandfather was the oldest in his family. His mother had given birth to her last child the year before. She breast fed her grandson which seems weird to us today but in the late 1800s May be the reason he survived. Great grandfather eventually remarried and had another family. My grandfather was in that lot. His older half brother never lived with them. He stayed with his grandparents until he was grown. I think families were more fluid in an age where mothers too often died in childbirth or soon after.

So moving. Love Greg Davies quest. So sorry about the death of Elizabeth in childbirth with William at age 19. Such tragedies shaped families forever on. So odd that the conditions upon remarriage of Evan Owens were recorded as Widower and spinster. Anyway, thank you for sharing. You are the best.

@Nicky L i think it's sad that they had a word for woman not married at 29. You either had to be married by then(worse case scenario condidering the conditions for married women or be a disgraced women cause you have had lovers or be called a spnister). Society simply won't let you be...i think disgraced women had it better compared to the other two

@@shafaghb as a legal term it wasn't offensive, it just meant a single adult woman. In Russia at that time all unmarried women were called "maidens" in the documents, even if that "maiden" had children or was 90 years old. It was never about age or being an "old maid" in this context.

Whoever (or is it Whomever?) voices this has such a lovely voice. I wish I had a voice like hers.

Choosing whoever or whomever can be easy. Whomever is an object pronoun and works like the pronouns him, her, and them (Give the document to whomever in the department). Whoever is a subject pronoun and works like the pronouns he, she, and they (Whoever wrote this poem should win a prize).
Whoever was right. Whomever is only used when the person in question is not the subject of the sentence. In this case the narrator is the subject.
I personnally always think of giving or getting something. Then it is whomever (I got it from him/her, I gave it to him/her - in these sentences, 'I' is the subject that get's something).
Blabla. This is why many people stopped bothering with whomever and whom. Saying whoever, or who gets the message accross just dandy.
And yes, she has a very soothing voice. Try to relax and use more air when you speak and talk from the back of your throat. This is what most great narrators do (like attenborough).
