It’s hard to explain NOW how good SportsCenter USED to be. If you were there, you know. If you weren’t there, you can never know.
I was there.. it was can't miss television. damn near all of them were great.
I was there and I know and yes it was the best. After the games sort of like must see tv every late night.
I used to watch it constantly. Every day. I probably haven't turned it on in ten years.
A period of time nobody will ever experience again
Yep...ESPN in the 90's was TOP LEVEL!
Sportscenter will NEVER be like this again
yes it will
@C. that has no relevancy
@@sillygoose635 You're insane if you think they can get back to this kind of magic. Everyone watched Sportscenter during this time. Now most people don't even have cable anymore.
It's still on?
Why not? Do you think people are incapable of a sense of humor now? This “back in the day” nostalgia bs is always so stupid. I watched it back then. I watch it now. Get over it.
Steiner's laugh is contagious. He is a classic.
sure is
It was I watch this Evey couple months and never gets old.
Francis Scott 'Off' Key...one of the best one-liners in sport journalism history.
Every time I get down in the dumps, I watch this video. Brings a smile to my face.
He made it up on the spot too! quick wit
@@bigtip8371 And he thought he was going to be fired over it!
I use that joke now and people think I'm the clever one.....I don't laugh hysterically or scratch my ear to indicate going to commercial break though LOL
"Kerry Wood making a relief appearance" is pretty damn good.
It's over when Steiner starts reaching for that right ear lmao.
Never really noticed that before. That's hilarious. Steiner is a national treasure.
That was your cue to start the three second countdown before he just imploded.
@@allanr6132 Yup, that was his signal to the camera crew that he was going to crack up.
It was actually his cue to the teleprompter guy to stop rolling.
@@jjbigfoot9077 no it wasn't
The relief appearance line had me dying...
"I can't stop now, I have to finish!" ROTFL!
I was watching that live. As soon as Charley said, "...after pleading guilty... oh, boy..." I knew he was toast and I was about to witness an all-time classic.
When he touched his right ear you knew he was in trouble too, ha ha.
Man Sportscenter was so much fun back in the 90's where they had the heavyweights Steiner, Patrick, Olbermann, Robin Roberts, Kilborn & a young Stuart Scott. As a matter of fact, the 90's was way too much fun period. Where's that DeLorean Time Machine, I want to go back.
Olbermann was and remains an a-1 ahole
And Eisen!
They have laid off a ton of people so now all they have are cheap, plastic-looking news readers with no personality.
Sportscenter was really like a long SNL sketch. It use to be so hilarious with the different on-air personalities and them each having their own little quirks. I literally would watch Sportscenter three times a day. I miss the 90's.
It's crazy to see what a lunatic/bitch Keith Olbermann turned into. Terrifying.
Charley Steiner used to have me just rolling with his outtakes. I really miss him on SportsCenter.
Back when sports center was actually worth watching, the glory days of ESPN.
The way Steiner said "your turn" never fails to make me laugh.
"Are you done?" "I HOPE SO!"
Charlie Steiner, You sir, are a National Treasure.
lol this is great. Oh how I miss the good ole days of sportscenter in the 90s
Someone needs to make an ultimate Charley Steiner video with these outtakes and bloopers along with the Follow Me to Freedom and Melrose Place commercials.
Ahh, back when sports center was fun to watch. those days are long gone
New goal in life: find a job and career that makes you laugh like Steiner at his job. Clearly that's a happy guy happy to be working. Inspiring and hilarious. :)
This was why sportscenter was fun. Charlie made you want to watch for HIS reaction.
I still laugh when I hear carl say "uh ohh" lmbo!
That laugh is contagious.
In tears everytime!
This never gets old
Does any human being you've ever known possess anywhere near the kind of infectious laugh that Charley Steiner has? Not a chance!
Any knowledgable fan of the classic Sportscenters from the 90's would put Steiner in their top 3 anchors ever! His steadfast professionalism mixed with his sporadic fits of uncontrollable laughter? He's a fuckin national treasure!
Many posters in this thread have already said the same thing.
When I'm depressed and I'm feeling down. This is one of my go to videos.
You'd have to be completely dead inside to be a sports fan and not absolutely love this guy!
Well said "Go Getter". I too watch Steiner to cheer up if I've had a bad day. Sportscenter was so much fun back then. Those were the good old days! Charley Steiner is now the voice of Dodgers baseball.
James May from Top Gear. Watch the homemade campervan episode and wait until Clarkson says, "I asked James to pull behind me address the gravity of the situation but he wasn't much help..."

Tony Gwynn
Quest Love from the Roots has one of my favorite laughs of all-time!
His "Francis Scott Off Key" moment is right up there with Stephen Colbert's "Munchma Quchi" and Gary Owens' Preparation H Christmas ad read for the funniest cases in history of someone losing it on-air.
Bob Ley cracking up is the funniest part of that incredible moment.
"Mitch "Blood" Green went shopping for a suit or some other piece of haberdashery"
What a great line 😂
I really wish the Mitch Green press conference leading into that segment (which is what caused Charley to crack up) was still online. "And then...he RAN! Like a SISSY, a HOMO, he RAN!"
I wanna see SVP host Baseball Tonight with Steiner and Kirchen. It would be just amazing.
Charley is an ESPN legend. The Dodgers are lucky to have him.
THIS is ESPN to me. Used to be so darn fun, and not all the arguing and yelling.
Listening to Steiner and Eisen talk about this on his podcast. Had to look it up .
0:59, I really thought I was going to pee my pants laughing at that epic bit on Kerry Wood.
Charley Steiner's the man.
Kerry Wood had to pee his pants after that, too. ;)
Laughing still now. Thank you
Dude is HILARIOUS!!!
My God SportsCenter used to be GREAT!! Would watch 3 shows a night. This is classic. Gone are the days
I liked how he realized how the Kerry Wood story was going to end up.
"After pleading...oh boy..."
"Your turn!"
"Francis Scott OFF Key"
I miss charley.what a personality.i crack up everytime i watch these
0:26, "Oh boy" LOL LOL LOL
His laugh is amazing. Especially when Car Lewis sings the National anthem. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
0:26 - It was at that moment that Mr. Steiner knew he wouldn't be able to finish the story with a straight face.
The best damn ESPN anchor period!
I love the Kerry Wood one, Oh boy
Charley was one of the best. Miss him
I watch his video on Carl Lewis from time to time. Now I know this great man’s name.
OMG, Francis Scott Off Key!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was watching that live. May never have laughed harder in my life.
“I can’t stop now I have to finish!” LAWL 🤣
I'm crying from this omg
it is the first time in recent memory, that kerry wood made a relief appearance
This video had me dying from laughter, especially when he said that Wood was making a relief appearance. 🤣
I'm in the market for a tool chest, had to come here for some SC Steiner outtake fixes, always good stuff
Other sportscasters would have made the moments regular, but Charlie makes the moments classic and hilarious. The Kerry Wood moment was made hilarious by him. I still can't stop laughing everytime I watch this video.
Rock on Charley Steiner!!! The man of many outtakes and wheezing laughs!
Loved these guys..ESPN should have kept them..
"I can't stop now I have to finish!"
"Francis Scott Off-Key" LOL
I've seen this video a dozen times or so and still laugh like it's the first time.
Classic. Absolutely goddamn classic.
This guy was the best!! Charley was so great...
I watch this every day or two just to give me a laugh and make me feel better. God I miss Charlie!!
I've probably watched this video ten times the last four years and I still crack up as hard as the first time.
Fun time’s! Carl Lewis is a classic.
Sportscenter will go on. But Charlie Steiner IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU...
Greatest Laughter of All Time.
It must be amazing to have that much fun at work!!!
He made watching sport center so much fun
Come and get your whoop'in steiner....miss the classic sportscenter..
I love how when he knows he's going to lose it on a few of these he goes "oh NO!"
Charlie Steiner made ESPN worth looking at, because if something happened out of the ordinary, you knew he would have to bring it up and be prepared for that laugh, because he never finished what he was going to say.
Love this guy!!
CHARLEY STIENER FOREVER!!!
"I can't stop now, I have to finish!"
lol i know right! I really wish i could find that part someone online! that was hilarious!
Miss these sports center days. So hilarious
Both Of The Guys Laugh At The End Is Funny As Hell. I Wish I Watched As Much ESPN Back Then As I Do Now
1:02 - (snort) "your turn!" Too funny...
A Charley Steiner Eyewear Retrospective.
Watching Charlie Steiner struggle to keep his composure is equal to Tim Conway breaking up poor Harvey Korman...
My goodness sportscenter was so much fun back then. no BS agendas or every anchor being so serious. These guys were like normal Joe's reporting the sports news. You could identify with them and they would make you laugh sometimes!
+abatch12 yes and it has certainly gone to crap since then
@@mathman1923 Olbermann is back on occasion, which is always good.
@@mathman1923 no it hasn't
yeah but it still is good, fuck that no bs agenda
So in other words you're bitching because ESPN doesn't want to deal with racism? That agenda?
This guy is awesome.
I love how when he knows he is going to lose it, he always would touch his ear to let the producers know.
that was hilarous!!!!
I miss Charley Steiner
First time I watched this I cried from laughing so hard.
Still makes me laugh so hard that I cry.... hahahaha
"It's the first time that Kerry Wood made a relief appearance."
ESPN needs Charley back!!
I LOL'D just by him laughing. LOL
This made my day.
We love Charlie Steiner.
He's a national treasure.
CHARLEY HAD WAY TOO MUCH FUN
I laugh harder than Charlie does everytime I watch this !!! Tears and a split gut !
I love his laugh! 😂😂😂
RIP Sportscenter. You were awesome
Francis Scott "Off-Key"!
"The alleged perpetrator told police he couldn't stop now." (Kerry Wood, Public Urination)
When ESPN WAS HELLA FUN AND AWESOME 👍😎
When Charlie tugs at the ear, shit's about to go south in a hurry.
I miss the old sport center!
It's even more hilarious if you see and hear the Mitch "Blood" Green quote that sets up that breakup!
"And then...he RAN! Like a SISSY, a HOMO, he RAN!"
The golden days of sports center.
Swear to God, I laugh EVERY SINGLE TIME I watch this
uh-oh
Francis Scott "Off" Key killed me.
I think you're right. I dont think "Haberdashery" has ever been used on Sportcenter before or since haha. The "Relief appearance" was a good one too. This clip always cracks me up lol.
When Sportscenter anchors felt like your favorite uncles. Now they all seem like empty suits.
