I have a COLOSSAL fear of the dark, of being alone. I hate it so much. And this video actually helped me an LOT. I got to breathe and realize that if I control this fear, I'd be able to sleep better and grow as a person. Thank you so much for this. You made my whole week!

I got something out of this. I'm looking to walk through a lifelong fear of public dancing. Failed miserably a few nights ago, but am climbing off the canvas to give it another look. Best I like what you said about not approaching it to get rid of fear, but to walk through it. I've heard the quote by Cus D'Amato where he told Mike Tyson that all fighters felt the same fear, but champions learned to walk through it. Very inspirational. By the way, I'm 61 years old.

should be yes, but this system survives off fear. i think the parents should take more responsiblity in teaching their children instead of leaving everything to schools that work for a much different agenda.

I have been practising positive affirmations, hypnosis, visualisations etc to try and remove fear for years. This, and knowing that confidence is more experience related than mentally related, is the only technique that has helped me achieve the things I want. Thank you :)

Thanks, Brian, let me be that "one person" that responds wholeheartedly and say "Thank You"!!! Sometimes you just need to know someone else is feeling it too!! What you have shared has truly empowered me to launch out even further into the deep to see what possibilities life has for me. I just did a career change and I am now working at a software firm and our growth rate is off the chart and I can see so many possibilities in front of me, but it will definitely stretch me, and I am up for the challenge. I've learned to do things afraid, but now I don't have to listen to that voice that says "what is wrong with me, why am I so afraid?" Now I can say, nothing is wrong, it's just a part of the process. Thanks again Brian :)

Great video! THanks. For me I have written this statement about Fear on an index card and placed it on my bathroom mirror so I can read it everyday. "Courage is not the absence of Fear, but more the judgement that something else is more important." This statement helps me to get passed fears that I feel at times and helps me to continue on.

  • @dalecollins477
    @dalecollins477 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Very good stuff thank you.
I have the opposite problem in that I don't actually feel fear that much in many things. This is a BIG problem for my family who have watched me take the most ridiculous risks, sometimes ending up with me in serious trouble in hospital (and a few of those where my life was saved by medics!). My son has hidden my axe because he doesn't trust me with it since I nearly cut off my finger chopping wood, my daughter has had nightmares because of the stupidly dangerous things I've done (like solo a 1000 foot cliff, or swim down a raging river etc) and my wife has gone for weeks without talking to me because she really ends up picking up the pieces when I fail - which has been often.
I have to remind myself each time I want to do something not to do it because its so selfish and dangerous. Its not big or clever to have less fear. Fear is the sign that gets held up to you by your subconsciousness to say "have you really thought this through?" before doing something and it should be respected and balanced.
I don't want my wife and kids to grow up without me or looking after me following an awful accident.
I do love this video though and I think fear (for most people) does hold them back from even mundane things and it must be breached as described to achieve goals.
Final thought from one who has gone way too far sometimes. Going to extremes and crashing out in some self created dreadful situation leaves you mentally less capable. It damages your mind and gives you phobias. I can no longer go surfing in big seas because of being swept away one evening by rip currents in the dark with no one around or knowing where I was. I regret doing that because now the sea scares the crap out of me and I can only surf small breaks. So its not true that"What doesn't kill us makes us stronger" I'd say its more like "What doesn't Break us makes us stronger"
Please don't judge me, because I genuinely try not to do dangerous things (for the sake of my family and friends). Its a conscious effort to draw back each time.

My best friend of all time and my girlfriend are taking a long healthy break with no contact other than emergencies. Our relationship was stressing us out far past the point of healthiness so she decided to take a healthy break for a few months.
We've barely ever gone a few days without talking in the last three years so I have been panicking for the last week since we went our temporary separate ways. I've been terrified she will never come back even to be my friend.
I couldn't control my emotions which is the main reason why she needed a break and she told me I did too. I didn't want to but she was right. We're using this time to grow as individuals and mature so we can be close friends again. She even laughed right before the break when I asked her if she would ever come back to me to be my friend again, she told me I was being irrational and that I need to trust her because she cares about me so much.
I was weak and pretty pathetic but I'm using videos like this to get strong both for me and my life, and for her.
I'll be excited to see her again and make our friendship healthy and close again. Eventually date again
    Any Advice?
I trust and respect her and believe she made the strongest and best choice with this break.
You sir have earned yourself another subscriber and pupil. I can tell you are a wise old soul.

I deal with flash backs and pain on a daily basis but this video has helped me with taking a different approach to fears. Breath! You have to breath. Think about what you want not what you don't want. Thank you man keep up the videos!

Brian, I couldn't agree more with your thesis. It applies to so many things and I've always overcome fear by rationalising the the result of fear. Think "what's the worst that could happen?". If it's doesn't get you arrested or physically hurt you, you can handle it.
I've used this in anything from entering rooms where I don't know anyone to making board presentations. And I can tell you addressing my fears has had a whole lot of positive upsides.

Well I can tell you this is something I have been figuring out for myself, and have many t-shirts ideas too, to help others, so they don't have to take SO LONG to figure out what is so (and not so) OBVIOUS.
So thank you for explaining it so clearly (btw am at 10mins of the video, I'll finish it once I have posted this comment :P), but I do believe it is up to everyone to get to a point of understanding for themselves, and what they do to cement what they've learned will determine whether they stay in their comfort zone like the 99% of other people or be part the 1% that seem to do what they love like they have no fear and EXCEL at it.
I hope that made sense XD

Thanks, Brian. Gotta say -- was not expecting such clear-cut, no-nonsense wisdom with a lap-based, non-white balanced video (unless you actually have blue notebooks!). A great photo editor told me, I don't care what way you show me your photos -- just make sure your photos show me something! And you know the best jazz players have the most messed-up horns (Charlie Parker's was in hoc when he needed drug money). So keep dropping wisdom, in any way, shape or form you can. And get that life101 website up -- it's gonna be great, and so helpful to so many people!! Thanks again. Really.

  • @gregwhite3810

Oh, I just realized that it's a 6 years old video, but the content are real as every time. I had been thinking about it recently. So this bravery thing is always tricky, worth to work on. Here's my method I follow. When your inner voice start telling you that it's not the right time to do it's definately the time to do it. This is the sign, you can stretch your comfort zone bigger. First thing to do, notice your fear. Second one: beat it. How? If you watched any war movie you could had seen that sergeant asks private if he was affraid to do it or not? With more vulgar words but it not the point now. This time YOU are sergeant and private in one person. Ask yourself: you fear? Answer that: No! Ask it again (louder): you fear? Say it again: NO! You FEAR?! NOOO! It creates courage in your heart and an instant desire to make the first step. So just ask another question: Then what the hell are you waiting for? Plus, always ask yourself that if you did that thing would you remember that in a year? Most of the time no, these are cakes, no big deal. And in this case no need any fuss, just do it ;) It would be interesting to understand why is being ashamed so intolerable feeling probably this would be a major step to conquer your fear easier. Have a nice day Brian.

Great stuff. Breaking through fear is often when transformations occur. The difference between us and the caterpillar that literally transforms into a butterfly is fear isn't in the equation. The caterpillar just does it. One of my secret magical self-talk questions I'll ask myself is "What would I do if I wasn't afraid?" No matter how much you might be avoiding, your brain will still answer.

I actually already feel better after watching this. Just accept all that fear, add a little something and turn it into excitement? That's an excellent technique.

Skydiving progression with many opinions about fear from many in the sport at the DZ and online - this one makes the most sense to me and put me over the edge ( no pun intended lol ) tomorrow I will use this to make my jump for the 15th time from 14000 feet - the ultimate test of fear. The first fourteen times I had an instructor at my side - tomorrow I'm on my own. Thank you very much.

    This is the Best Channel!
I think fear comes when we don't have plan-B in place. This i learned when i accidentally came to know of this Android app called "no fear" by lokesh. It helps to create list fears, create plan-B, achieve it so that we remain in control.
i removed 2 fears like this!

I have found for me, when I build up a positive expectation to get myself motivated, and then I fail miserably, I lose some faith in myself and my positive evaluation of situations. It becomes a roller coaster of trying to build myself up emotionally, to just be crushed when I am wrong again. Maybe one or two times of this is okay, but after 10-20 times, I cannot keep tricking myself like that.
