I was playing around with the first chord progression and patterns, and my husband asked me what song I was playing! I was so excited, because I’ve always only played what’s on the page, so to be able to play around with chords and make something that sounds so pretty is pretty amazing.

I played piano for 10 years. But I was never taught chords etc. A travesty, I now know. But here I am years later after college with 4 kids and I would nearly cry every time I heard a piano. I missed playing. But I knew getting back into meant lots of frustration with what I had forgotten as well as frustration at what I was never taught. But. Your videos are a balm for the discouraged soul. I am so encouraged and excited about learning again. Thank you!!

It assists in studying, enables faster comprehension, improves the memory, helps in focusing on a task, job or goal, and enables you to ignore meaningless and irrelevant thoughts. A "C major" chord is always C, E, and G. In any vertical order, so it's still a C major chord if it's E, G, C or G, C, E. That's its definition. If you play F, A, and C, in any vertical order, that's an F major chord. Does that help?

I agree. I’m also a guitarist. Music theory is so much easier to learn/understand on the piano. It’s all laid out in front of you in an understandable way. Plus, songwriting is easier/different on piano as opposed to guitar. On guitar you get stuck in all your usual patterns and riffs. Sometimes I’ll write on the piano, and then transfer it to guitar... or the other way around. You can end up with some interesting songs. 🎸🎹🤘🏼

I very recently (like within the past week) taught myself to play Moon River like this. I had the chords, so I played the chords on top while I did broken chords in the left hand and it honestly sounds super pretty so I'm happy with it, haha.

PS: I think having a live stream broadcast that will display the diverse talent Pianote has nurtured...Would be amazing🤯💯

This story may be a bit long - but then again, maybe it will speak to someone else. What would I like to see - even on your website? Lessons on how to pace myself to get proficient with learning all the chords in a chart and improvising the melody. I don’t want to pay TH-cam a monthly fee to download a few charts. Quite frankly, I would rather pay Pianote.
I am a flutist who loves to improvise. I’ll play again in church whenever it’s safe for the band to play in our small space. I have had enough lessons on jazz theory recently to be fascinated with the logic how the 7 notes and 12 scales fit together. This pandemic has caused some mental shift for me. I realized, even after playing in flute choirs and bands for 40+ years on and off, I realized I wasn’t loving the flute, and I always thought learning the piano was beyond my capability. Then I saw an email from you where you showed the fingering - thumb under technique - for playing the C scale. I bumbled myself through getting coordinated, then realized - I can do this!
I’ve checked out piano lessons through TH-cam, subscription ads, etc., and continue to come back to you. So I upgraded my keyboard, bought an 88 key digital piano - thank you for your reviews - put aside the flute, and have become fascinated with learning the piano.
My interest is improvisation - and jazz. I want to be able to learn the chords in charts, and I want to take a song - classical, pop, 50s jazz, my own song, whatever - add a jazz flavor and improvise the tune with an acceptable left hand - with a chord chart. I am moving through David Reed’s Improvise for Real courses - and love them. When I asked him about what fingers to use when playing chords with his tonal center logic, he suggested I look online for traditional piano lessons. I immediately turned to you. Many of your videos have been very helpful; others are over my head right now. Learning charts instead of learning how to read bass clef is my direction. Can you help? Thanks so much!

Awesome lessons from a great teacher! I have been watching, practicing and learning a lot! Thank you for enriching people's lives. I play the guitar for my church's choir but always wanted to learn the piano. These lessons make it easier than traditional classes and help save a lot of time. God bless!
