The Hearthstone team showed more respect and admiration for WOW in one animation than the MMO dev team has in a decade.

Whichever team did this animation deserves to do a whole show based on Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne.
Making a 30 second animation does not demonstrate adequate abilities to produce an entire season long narrative.

I also love how they have a Horde character being helped by Alliance soldiers. And even though they're up against the Lich King neither Lady Liadrin nor the rank and file Alliance soldiers hesitate. One of the things I always liked about WoW is how even just faceless nameless NPC soldiers are still shown to play a major role in the story and game.
I think they were supposed to represent the paladin hero power that summons Silver Hand Recruits. But yes, it was awesome 👌

Arcane and Castlevania are definitely good references. I don't even like LoL but absolutely enjoyed Arcane. And Castlevania was phenomenal. Didn't try to reinvent Castlevania at all. There were a few differences from the games, but it absolutely was fantastic.
Also Castlevania was a decade in the making, one could say it was Warren Ellis's passion project just like Arcane was to Fortiche.
@@dantefromdevilmaycry9857 I was seriously surprised how good Castlevania was, the animation and art style was sick but everything else was great too. The characters, writing (i guess the game did it?), the voice acting. Its too bad what happened after the first couple seasons. Bad animation, kinda bad story and characters seemed to just feel a lot more hollow.

Arcane’s animation and art styles fit the LoL setting so incredibly well and I think it would be perfect for WoW too. I feel like a FF14 show/movie would be best animated in the same vein as it’s CG cutscenes.

Also wow’s already cartoony style would come off really well if adapted correctly, kind of like in this hearthstone video where’s there’s a mix of both a sense of seriousness but also cartoon like effects
You know... this may potentially them testing the waters. This animation fits very well into that market that Arcane and Edgerunners hit. This could be of course not only a trailer for Hearthstone, but also a foreshadowing that something else is coming. They definitely have access to a team that can do this style. As far as marketing goes, jumping on the animated series trend would be 100% in their interest.
Arcane was a passion project made by talented pros in the industry who love the LoL universe and wanted to bring it to life for the fans in its glory. Also Riot gave the Arcane team green lit with everything they wanted to do and with no deadline for release unlike Activion Blizzard who would want to ship the movies/shows in a limited timespan disregarding the quality of the show at its current time to generate instant revenue . also its a heavy gamble since a WOW show can turn into the next rings of power or Witcher if the showrunners are not passionate about the project , wanting to please the "modern audiences" and fulfill their own ambitions in their vision rather than sticking faithfully to the source material and enchancing it with original content
The french company that did it worked for the last 10 years doing all LoL animation videos. That's why it looked so good. They also use/used Arcane tv-show as a proof-of-concept on how LoL's world would look like in the upcomming LoL MMORPG. Basicly it was skill, experience, passion and also continuity.

This style is absolutely reminiscent of Arcane. Not a 1:1 ratio but this is really close. They even did the 2d effects for some smoke, lightning. This short is amazing. It’s beautiful.

Dude, what team made this animation!? It was epic! And yes, if someone took and do the same thing and create an animation like arcane or castelvania for the Warcraft, it will be epic! As long as it has the same level of focus that is ofcourse, meaning a well told story, with no random endless plot holes...

an animated series for wow should have happened ages ago. nows a good time to do it with all the insane animation talent and ideas to pull from other successes in terms of style, pace, and story beats. also its a good chance to retcon stuff and make lore make more fucking sense lol
It would definitely be a great time to do it because (DECENT) video game adaptations are on the rise to become the next big fad in the movie industry, finally replacing the cape & comic book phase that dominated the industry since the mid-late 2000's. Arcane, Castlevania, Sonic, Detective Pikachu, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Mortal Combat, Cuphead - now the upcoming Mario movie, The Last of Us series, the Fallout series - it's pretty clear that video game adaptations are going to become the next big thing. So yes, it would be smart for Blizzard to jump on that (as well an Overwatch show.)

Arcane, and Edgerunners did it best, where people dont even have to be into video games to like the show. We're finally getting video game adaptations of shows/movies right, and it feels really good
WoW has been making some of the most incredible cinematics since their launch trailer, and for some reason they did a fucking live action movie.
They could do several seasons in a Clone Wars style animation, where we could see Arthas episode by episode, from training to fighting orcs, then leading his men against the Scourge, and eventually turning on his people. They could flesh out minor characters along the way, and show more locations to build the world further than WoW could.

This is an amazing animation but I'd love an animated series done to the quality of the Saurfang vs Sylvanas duel.
This animation feels too similar to Arcane.
An animated Warcraft series would be INCREDIBLE!
liadrin is like this solely because it is hearthstone. real warcraft lore liadrin would have survied the icy shatter of her shield and then died to the second blow.
just the events of warcraft 1, 2 and 3, adapted with this level of quality, would be enough to make the most epic fantasy show in history.
id love an animated series, the movement in this one was a bit too fast. But very cool

WoW as alot of lore from the games and the books they could adapt in an animated series. Id watch that and im sure alot of others would love to see it.
Arcane took 6 or 7 years and a 100 million dollars. Its hard to get that kind of backing
The reason it took so long was because the higher-ups at Riot basically made the head guy of Arcane redo it. The visuals were there but the script wasn't great, so they had him rewrite it and put the show on hold in the meantime. That's when the studio worked on projects like the Worlds videos and the KDA videos. But I agree, I doubt that Activision-Blizzard would be willing to say "Start over" these days if the first season of a show they had worked on wasn't living up to their standards after years of production.

When you do a big project, you shouldn't have the need to start over, that's a sign of terrible planing and supervision.

Riot gave Fortiche the okay to animate one cinematic for Blizzard. Showing a glimpse of what would've happened if Blizzard cared about it's game.
Imagine they made a long film or series in this style about the events of wc3. The Arthas story arc needs to become a movie/series

Dude, so much wow lore. So many arcs could be made.
Warcraft would be just showing old stories that everyone already knows. It is missing the novelty aspect. There is no "what happens next?" because we already know what happened.
Arcane, cyberpunk edgerunner, both come to mind that have a different art style than the game and were massive succes

Lowfi animation actually fits WoW's aesthetics well, atleast with the game. We are also used to ingame animation machinima used for ingame cutscenes. The intense detail of Arcane and especially the Warcraft movie is overkill and doubt modern Blizz would have that much money to throw around anymore.

The first 1:02 of the ORIGINAL Animated cinematic is what I expected Sylvanas to do in the Shadowlands Cinematic,, Arthas beeing the one binding Sylvanas, messing with her mind, and the one bringing her to the point of breaking free of his final grasp remember before Zereth Mortis where the Jailer said "SERVE" and she fired an arrow at him ?, this should have been final Arthas/Nerzhul, Sylvanas finally saying enough is enough and taking AZAROTHS SIDE and helping US/Players with bringing down the Host-....of Domination, rather that, then what we got now...

While originally I wanted something like castlevania for animation I think this hearthstone trailer perfectly fits with the artstyle WoW has generally. They do an animated series like this and new people hopping into the game don't notice a huge difference in terms of style.
The Warcraft MOVIE should have been about Arthas I will never forgive that missed opportunity.
I am very curious which types of animation people prefer the most?
1. The current hearthstone animation showed here (like Arcane)
2. The animation like MOP, WOTLK opening cinemtaics
3. Anime (like Castelvania)

Make the entire animated series from some random soldier's perspective. The soldier who follow Arthas from the very beginning, follow him purge Stratholme, and eventually help defeat him in the end. This way, the writer teams can play around with the established story without ruining the legacy of Lich King's storyline.
The animation was straight up like Arcane and I would welcome it.

I'd say, look at Vox Machina.
That should be the standard for RPG based animated stories. (admittedly I didn't see Arcane so I don't know much 'bout it).
The one thing Blizz has going for it is every cinematic it's ever done has been absolutely gorgeous and people tend to love them more than the game. Really, Blizz needs to capitalize on it (but they've known that for years, and don't so I'd be suspect over why).
I think everybody will be happy with animated series) especially if it will look like last big cinematics... sadly blizz don't hear us...
Make sure the voice actors are solid. Yes Castlevania Simon voice, overlord voice maybe but voice acting can make or break it.
although we need a good arthas and/or warcraft3 series i would prefer something more unique like a meta series that takes place in the real world where the game exists and follows a group of players from the launch of wow up until dragonflight. the community dynamic of wow and mmos is what they need to sell people on, its a great experience.

I wonder if all the people in chat saying "This looks terrible" say the same thing about Arcane. Because Blizzard have managed to copy the style of Arcane (and the other League of Legends cinematics made by Fortiche) to perfection.
I can’t see Blizzard making something as ambitious as Arcane (that show was 6 years in the making) but something along the lines of Castlevania I could see. They should hire whole new writers for the show tho
if one day there's a wow animation like that, it would be good if it started in the classic period, and in the following season, 10 thousand years ago, with the elves. and then TBC. A literature way of presenting present, then past, and then colliding the two with the same enemy: Illidan.
An animated show for Warcraft would be great if done correctly. No virtue signaling, just good stories. Castlevania, Arcane, Edgerunners were all good. Personally I would like a series set in the second or third war, being episodic like The Last Airbender.

If they made an animated series set in the warcraft universe it doesn't even need to follow big named characters. Make it about the people living in the cities or towns and focus on one group and what it would be like going to one of the wars as a soldier or being part of an expedition to fight a rogue dragon or some BS and it would be great.

Only problem with making a series is that in the end when arthas dies we all will be thinking of shadowlands and how all of that was part of the jailers plan
