I have a 2001 and thinking of adding the Stratus Gray to the lower portion of the car. The car is silver but seems too much and bland. The Stratus Gray would accent the Silver more.
Two Tone, the reason to stick to a single color..... There were a couple that worked, the burgundy look one, but most look hideous, lol. I actually prefer Two Tone finish cars, but it doesn't seem to work on this car's layout for whatever reason, or is it just the color combos they've chosen? Another neat video btw.
Nope - Two tones was great in the 90's if chosen with taste like the true classic brillant silver/ matt atlas grey. Almost nothing could compete with a classy two tones 500SL with beige interior back then.
@@gillesdarcy3695 : I had a look at that color combo on the web and it still didn't do it for me - but different tastes I guess. I love 2 tone and I've had 2 tone cars for most of my life, but I can't see it on this car. I think it's because the car is so low and the panels are so high. It ends up looking like the car's cut in two instead of the 2nd tone looking like a smaller special enhancement. Different body panels is the only way I can see a way around the problem.
@@LexCameron I'm biased caus' my first SL in 1992 at the fuel station was a brand new two tones and I was floored by the presence and class of the car- Single tones are great of course.
@@gillesdarcy3695 : There's the times too. Colors or color schemes that looked great to everyone 10 or 20 years ago can be totally out of fashion now. The SL's are also strange in that 'go faster' red doesn't seem to work well for them. With the roof off it works better, and you can get them to look better with customizations, but I'm not sure why red doesn't seem to work.
I have an early 1990s r129 with a single colour 744 brilliant silver but it is mat on the Sacco panels. Difficult to get the mat spray.

@@LexCameron Indeed - Even a red 300 sl gullwing or convertible looks wrong to my eyes. Too german for red maybe.
