Perhaps this sheikh, who is one of my favourites and my family's...has never really suffered personally from anxiety depression or any mental illness for that matter and hence doesn't really know how debilitating it actually is. Hence it's so easy to talk about it without any emotions or sympathy but not easy to go through it. 😢 Allah bless you with the best of both worlds for teaching us so much about our Deen...Ameen.

I think there is a difference between spiritual and mental or physical ailments. Sometimes, when one has depression, schizophrenia, psychosis or anxiety; it is due to genetic and chemical imbalances in the brain... They will need to take medications and therapy to alleviate their feelings of overwhelming, abnormal, and uncontrollable thoughts of such. Thus, spiritual effectiveness comes hand in hand with medication. By being spiritually attached to Allah, we can be grateful and conscious of the blessings of Allah ta'ala. Wallahualambissaawwab.

Never undermine someone’s trauma and put a time limit on it.
