    18:30 I don't know if reusing 88 words all the time is really that repetitive. 88 is quite a few, and language's (like English) usually have words from smaller sets than that used in almost every sentence.

    • @fractal_fantasymc2197
      @fractal_fantasymc2197 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah, I also think that Bib is a bit too scared when it comes to the language being repetitive. 88 different forms combined with a complex vowel harmony system is definetly enough to make a language feel diverse

    • @McCainenl
      @McCainenl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If anything a much greater variety strikes me as quite unnaturalistic

    • @Mr.Nichan

      I suppose I should say "many" languages. I guess Latin probably has only affixes as a small set in every sentence. On the other hand, I'm starting to realize that these copula forms probably will not need to be in LITERALLY every sentence, which makes the situation more like, say English or Japanese, where words like "the" or "a" or particles like "wa" or "o" are not in LITERALLY every sentence.

    save that sentence, it would make a great idiom! The image is one of group solidarity: the trees will share the water equitably, not burn each other. Also, something about the way you wrote it just gives it a "quote from a famous speech" vibe.

    Passive marker on Prepositions
    the only example that I can think of is polynesian genitive particles (Hawaiian ʻā/ʻō, Māori a/o) but theres alot happening there
    if prepositions are more like coverbs (not converbs) then I could see them taking verb morphology

  • @xerenas1593
    @xerenas1593 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You should to a feature focus on consonant mutation, I know it’s been discussed a lot but that discourse is more analysis than how-to-make-conlangs-with-this.
    Also great video! Your rambling is both very interesting and very soothing, like Lo-Fi but more English.

    so i might be wrong but with the bit about Nahuatl around 16:30, but i'll go out on a bit of a limb- that might actually be an irrealis, and not a true future tense, which might simplify what's happening.

  • @TheTedder
    @TheTedder 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Your example sentence sounds like a metaphor for politics or something. The trees need water but they're busy setting each other on fire instead!

    Re: Intro: I've found time always moves significantly faster in autumn. It'll get better in spring. :')
    And ftr I've spent the better part of the last 48 hours figuring out if trills make any sense in my last conlang. The fact that you've made this much progress in a year is impressive to me. xD

    How about "to kneel or bow before" as a contrastive or sublative? Seems a natural pairing with the defeat / overcome meaning of the comparative and superlative.

    I know suggesting stuff is not necessarily a great idea, but it might be fun to have the singulative for inanimates also imply definiteness, similar to (as far as I understand) the accusative and -lAr suffix in Turkish. And as far as I'm aware you haven't tackled definiteness yet... ;)
