The cards need to be fully levelled and of the same grade. If it still doesn’t work check to see if you’ve locked your cards. If the card you want to use as material is locked it won’t work.
i was wondering about this too I think any cards can be used to add stars to a card but if your card is at 5 stars, it needs to change rank. For changing rank I think you need to use a similar card that is the same rank and also 5 stars?
after you power up all 5 stars, you can see the power up button turns into a upgrade button. You can only upgrade a same grade same artist card with a same grade same artist card, and they need to be 5 stars.
Ohh maybe you mean the limited theme cards! Like in this video pop theme is colored and im nayeon theme is normal, well, the limited cards are only up for a limited time, but you can buy random limited cards from the store with the money you earn from the arena plays, i hope i understand the question right🥲

If i lock it, when I power up other cards it won't show up and i won't use it so it stays with me as long as i want it
