Radioactive Aliens | Designing Aliens

- A few weeks ago, I hosted a livestream in which I designed a group of intelligent aliens that originally evolved on a radioactive planet. The basic idea was that the native life would have evolved a natural tolerance to the radioactive environment. This would eventually lead to them an incredibly advanced, star spanning civilization in their equivalent to the Industrial Revolution, since they had no adverse affects from harnessing Nuclear Power.
In the days since, I've been expanding upon the idea by finalizing their designs, making art, and fleshing out their world's history. This is the final product and I'm really happy with it! I plan on making more videos like this in the future, so I hope you enjoy.

This reminds me of this one video called “Become grabby” where step one, and I kid you not, is to disassemble mercury
Beoming Grabby is not for the weak of heart
your art has gotten so good dude! it has such a unique style
Thank you! I've come a long ways from my humble start on some of my earlier videos
A specie that can live of only radiation is really scary, but cool concept
I absolutely adore these spec evolution projects. Going from the nature of their planet, the explanation of how they evolved and adapted, to things like how they write and read, and crazy ideas like radiotrophic lifeforms (at least by earth standards). I eagerly await each and every one of these. amazing job!
Thank you! This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series on this channel, so don't worry, it's not going anywhere!
Fun fact: Radiotrophic life has been spotted in the ruins of Chernobyl, especially near the elephants foot, this radiotrophic life isn't as advanced as these though, considering that it is just fungi. (Fungi is still pretty advanced though, in my opinion.)
The idea of the older Yök's bodies transforming into tree-like structures reminds me of Ori, considering that's exactly what happened to him!
Man I love that game series, and I also love this channel!
Spoilers dude!
Bein apart of the stream was great; it was a trip watching y'all come up with ideas and trying to give some myself. End result is really, really well made, well done Cree!
Thank you! I'm glad you like it. What was one of your ideas?
Plot twist, the plutonium was actually dumped long before by another soecies
During fallout.
Puny humans: oh no radiation! Were doomed.
Meanwhile radiation aliens: this is fine.
"Huh, the radiation is a little strong today. All well."
@@Cree8Ball "Helps me feel fuller."
Creative as always
Fantastic Art and Amazing Video! :D
Thanks a million, I'm glad you liked it!
Now I wish I didn’t miss the stream
Don't worry, you'll get another chance
@@Cree8Ball 🎶 There’s always tomorrow
I like how the engineers are sort of like a realistic version of the classic evil alien invaders
this has became one of the coolest thing!
Now I want a benevolent version of the Engineers that goes "hey you want that moon for anything? Oh okay cool watch me make a giant O'Neil cylinder for shits n' giggles."
This is so damm creative man keep up the good work.
pretty sick
Amazing Art! :D
Im glad u finally confronted ur barber🙏
Aw dang, no florsche. Still, im a real big fan of these alien design vids, will try to join if another stream comes up!
Are you sure about no Florshes? (I'm kidding, there aren't any, don't strain yourself looking)
@@Cree8Ballthanks cuz i would have scoured every pixel looking for the little guys
Feels amazing to have influenced a video
Nice
A very creative creation! You've opened my eyes to a world of new ideas! I'll have a lot of fun thinking about how a civilisation like the Yöks' would progress. I love the idea of growing living architecture, it's such a cool idea. The scent-based writing system was kind of dodgy, but interesting regardless 😄 Everything from their environment to their anatomy is bizarre in the best way.
By the way, do Yöks have FTL travel? Because if not, the time they'd take travelling between stars would probably be a whole period of cultural development. Adding to that, if people from a war-torn world -- probably being war-weary themselves -- take to space to escape, would they want to keep being so warlike once the threat has passed and a new hope is in the horizon? Plus, why would these later space-faring Yöks pursue such grand, probably generation-spanning and extremely productive projects if they didn't plan on staying in one place for long? Or did some stay while others carried on? Also, that war that took place before the space age in the Yök homeworlds came out of nowhere to me, it needs a lot more context to make sense!
I think I'm gonna avoid FTL travel in this series for as long as possible, so yeah, interstellar travel would be a whole period of time, but the war weary people weren't war mongering, they just didn't care about what they were destroying in pursuit of their mega structures. And they made those mega structures in a kind of dodgy way, just barely holding together to supply enough energy and space for their ever expanding population. And yeah, the war between those two planets hasn't been all that fleshed out yet, but it was probably just caused by like a trade embargo or something
@@Cree8Ball I support your decision to avoid FTL 😄 It's more fun to imagine interstellar space as the vast void that we know it to be (at least so far)!
I shouldn't have said "warlike", because you're right, they were not aggressive but rather callous in their destruction. I guess the drawn-out ravaging of their homes really desensitised them to large-scale destruction. Yeah, your vision makes more sense now, although it's possible that experiencing the tragedy of their home's destruction may make them want a future without such destruction... I mean, no matter how desensitised you are, I'd imagine seeing your home turned into a barren wasteland would leave quite an impression. Regardless, the story you chose to tell is interesting to think about.
The evolution of the Yök space-farers into these crazy engineers is fascinating, but it seems kinda weird that they'd roll like that, making makeshift mega-projects then bailing. But I guess it makes sense based on the culture shift you talked about. Still, with the war now in the past, the new opportunities ahead and the decades or centuries of interstellar travel in the interim, I wonder if their culture could have shifted again.
I'm eager to see how you'll fill in the gaps and progress the story (whenever you get around to it, no pressure 😄).
How did i miss this one? I love it!
Edit: oh hell yeah! Cool writing system!
Wouldn't be an alien world building video without a cool writing system lol

@@Cree8Ball Your Welcome
You need to say don't die earlier in the video, it was too late by the time you said it. While I may be dead I still am still able to be very much entertained by this masterfully produced production, you win some and lose some I guess.
Aw man, we lost a real one today. Get well soon!

Thank you kindly, my guy
I just discovered your channel and I'm loving this series! Oh and btw, 'yök' means 'ew' in finnish :D.
It meaning ew kinda checks out, considering they're the main bar guys of the series lol. Oh and how badly did I mispronounce it lol
I didn't find the florsche :(
incredibly cool video tho your art style is really good and so are your ideas
Thank you! And don't worry, there aren't any Florshes in this one, so you didn't miss anything
I liked this stream
Well don't worry, there will be plenty more (but not for a few months)
I'm both envious and horrified by the implications of how space-faring this species is
Yeah, I thought of the space-faring segment of this video after thinking about the incredible cost that would ACTUALLY come from building the mega structures that permeate most Sci-Fi worlds
@@Cree8Ball interestingly, a lot depends on how many G's a species can take. Something with spores like fungi, or that can basically semi-death hybernate would have a huge advantage. If you're already radiation resistant, your offspring might also have interesting qualities. While some snails have iron reinforced shells, imagine heavy metal radiation resistant eggs!
do a video about australopithecus and homo habilis and the early hominids in olduvai gorge love your videos keep it up the artwork is amazing
Babe, wake up Cree8Ball just posted
I couldn't tell you why, but this is one of my favorite types of comment

The streams are incredibly chaotic, so I hope you enjoy them lol
I am happy my comment got shown (sorry for my English )
The stream was fun 👍
I'm glad you thought so! Hopefully I won't take so long between stream and the final upload next time lol
Don’t worry take all the time you need to as long as it isn’t straight up years, we might have helped supply ideas and concepts but you were the person masterfully stringing most of it together!

What's the mechanism behind their radiation resistance?
Copious amounts of melanin? Great repair? Or is it the same mechanism Deinococcus radiodurans uses?
A generous mix of great repair and the use of glass in their cell structure
@@Cree8Ball oh, is glass naturally radiation resistant?
Never heard of that one before
@@hoominbeeing I hadn't either, but on the stream where I made the original design, the chat told me that's how a lot of real world radiotrophs work
@@Cree8Ball Hmmm, I think chat was misinforming you
Quick Google search about radiotophic fungi shows no studies about utilization of glass or even silica
And glass (except lead glass) is not known at all for radiation protection
However, it's theorized the melanin helps with radiotrophy. Not only that, but the study in the Wikipedia article for the fungus also lists that other forms of radiation (radio) also increased fungal mass
So I'd imagine your aliens are all very black, esp their feeding parts, and different radiation (radio, vs gamma, vs x-ray, vs bet vs alpha) will "taste" different.
Again, I don't think the glass thing is true at all
Are these species going to be part of Starscapes, or is this a new original project?
It's completely unrelated to Starscapes
The is alien is alien!
They became grabby
