    This watch is so much more practical than the other comparable products from yema, bulova etc. because this is the only one which doesn't need two hands to show the time...

    • @jakekaywell5972
      @jakekaywell5972 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also greatly diminished the retro appeal. The original PSR did require two hands to use as well. Why Hamilton didn't go all the way here I will never understand.

    Some of us who are old enough to remember when these first came out in the early to mid 1970's. I lusted after one but as a kid, my parents would not even consider such a watch. I did eventually get a mechanical digital watch, later a Timex SSQ and many years later upon graduation from college a Rolex GMT Master. Back to this Hamilton, it could be tempting to buy one of these reissues.

    Hi. My father owned an original Pulsar around 1975 or 1976. He was very happy with it, and I remember that his friends were impressed by this watch. He actually got a second one -similar, with date "complication"- shortly afterwards. How accurate is it? The most accurate quarz watch I have (no radio, no web or otherwise synced) is a Bulova Accutron II, which deviates some twelve seconds a year. By comparison, a regular Casio may vary up to thirty seconds a month. What about this Hamilton? ¡Gracias anticipadas!

  • @a2zpaul766
    @a2zpaul766 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I bought this in August brand new for £540, from Francis and Gaye in Coventry so a saving of £135 on the RRP. (Incidentally, it was still available at that discounted price a few days ago when I looked). I can confirm what's said in the video about the quality of finish. My only slight gripe is that the clasp has been milled to a quite sharp-edged finish, which can irritate the wrist after a while. However, that's not enough to put me off the watch, which I think is a brilliantly executed nostalgic piece.

    Terrific macro shots show very well the great finish of the watch and bracelet. I have this watch that I purchased during lockdown as there was a decent discount at the time. Brilliant finish that even looks a little better than others from the brand even at the price. I'm old enough to remember this in Live and Let Die as a kid. The original required a button press every time you wanted to read the time and as you say this killed the battery quite quickly. The new Hamilton PSR uses a hybrid LCD-OLED display that allows the time to be read in half decent light to sunlight (LCD) and in the dark with the button push (OLED). Why is the LCD a tad dim? That would be down to the red filter over the negative LCD. It just would not look right with a clear filter. Back in the 70's there were many cheaper clones of the LED versions often displaying the date on a 3rd press of the button but is was only a few short years before these were killed of by positive LCD watches. Why the high price? Well only Hamilton can really answer that but I would assume that these are not made in large volumes as the target market is a niche one. Possibly down to the economy of scale. Anyway I'm very happy with mine and it certainly is a conversation piece. Great to see a review of a retro digital piece Teddy with the history of this watch, I didn't realise the original was made in Lancaster.

    • @anthonystevens8683
      @anthonystevens8683 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BogdanGunaa Mine is holding its finish pretty well, I don't use it as a daily driver (I have other less expensive watches that fit that use) but do wear it out and about. There are a few fine scratches but it still looks very good. I guess it'll mark like any other stainless steel case but the brushed finish is better at hiding wear than high polish. The battery is still good and is pretty accurate, maybe loosing a second maybe two over a few days. If you can I would suggest trying it on the wrist and seeing how you get on. I'm still very happy with my example and it gets plenty of attention for those not familiar with the old LED display.

    This is pretty cool, and I think offering some perspective on the often sneered-upon digital watches and quartz watches.
    In 30 years, enthusiasts of vintage products will be clamoring for a nostalgic recreation of the Apple Watch. “Things were so much more beautiful back in 2021” they would say.

    • @iamthelaw69
      @iamthelaw69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Sorry but that's not gonna happen. Technology-first products never, ever have any redeeming "vintage" value, with the notable exception of "first" products, like the first Apple computer, the first IBM PC, etc. Everything else in between has been relegated to junkyards and worthless garbage. The nature of adopting technology-first is to constantly stay first, not getting left behind. The PSR has vintage and artistic value, the Apple Watch only has hipster snobbery.

    • @spencerhopkinson9874
      @spencerhopkinson9874 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Difference is that there are plenty of working watches from decades ago, including ones that have recreations made of them.

    Back in the 70s my father had a watch like this. It came in a yellow gold case and bracelet and was very pricey. The LCD display had to be pressed to view. It was a status symbol, like the first pocket calculators that came out at that time. The $795 USD price tag is high for a quartz watch in stainless steel, but then again it is a vintage style. Bulova makes two versions of this watch, one in black and one in gold color. The LCD display is angled to view the time easier than the Hamilton model. The Bulovas are also cheaper.

    For the retail price they put on this watch, they should've licensed the Pulsar name from Seiko. This is too expensive. I'm getting the Bulova Comutron reissue. $150.

    You are paying the 1000,-$ for the design and name. Oh wait, you dont even get the name anymore!! Why not just take your 1000,-$ and get a near mint real vintage pulsar? Or do what I did: I got me a vintage almost mint Elektronika 1 for 165,-$ on ebay from Ukraine. And that Russian watch is even cooler than the Pulsar. -AND have the time and date displayed the “right way”😂 btw, there is two models of the Elektronika 1, the Terminator and the Porthole.

      My father had Elektronika in the 70s, steel with a red display. I bought myself a Hamilton as a reminder of that time and my father's watch.

    I dont really like this watch because at the end of the day is just a digital watch but there is more to it...but the way you sell it im convinced. Good job.

    Very thick for a digital watch, maybe a slimmer version at less than 10mm would be more versatile as a dress and everyday...sorry to say, but for the price and dimensions, i prefer ( dare i say) a smart watch 😪

    I went to see this watch in person after watching this video. I got disappointed because the steel does not good as it looks in this video. There is no date or day available on the display. The steel material is not well done / brushed. I also realized that the HAMILTON logo will fade away over time.

    Ridiculous price. The most I would pay is $150 for that.
