A lovely version of this Spey fly, understated and as always, exquisitely tied.
    Thanks Davie.

A real deadly fly, I tie a variant with a pinch of blue artic runner to highlight the wing and 2 strands of blue crystal flash.
Caught me my first salmon on the fly and it’s all thanks to you Davie!
I’m sure the wing highlight tip was in one of your vids too! Top man!

Great, A feather 🪶 of a bird than I know that you can't find everywhere. Only ten by wing or something like that. And the best it's that you make a fly with.GREAT !

hi Davie, what a way to start the day, watch you tye a beautiful spey! alot of thought went into that fly as to material characteristics matching varied water flow. I had forgotten about winding through the butts like you did tying in the artic runner. you're a remarkable teacher Davie, like the DaVinci of Fly Tying! I hate to put a damper on things, but when you put the bucktail on at about 7:45, the audio went out. I hope the 'bug' isn't back. Thanks Davie, this was a very enjoyable tutorial, as are they all.

Another fine video, thanks for posting. I've been wondering what brand wax you use. I like the idea of keeping a bit on my knuckle for quick use, but the wax I find is too gooey to do this with.
Many thanks again and keep up the good work. Cheers.

    Hi Davie,
First of all a BIG thanks for the great instructional and nice fly tying videos, which has help me - and I am quite sure lot of people around the world - to become a better fly tyer. I would really appreciate if you could show how to tye Ulf Sill's Beiss-fly built up with 5 wings. The pattern and fly it self is easy enough, but making a small head is really challenging, so If you could show some tricks about that, it would be awesome. Keep up doing really great work!

Just starting out fly tying at the age of 70 and really looking forward to the pleasure of tying a nice fly. I love the learning side of things and your videos are great to watch even if its just for passing the time. Having been an avid course angler with just a hint of game over 63 years I do understand what you put into your teaching and find it a real pleasure so thank you for that. there is one thing I have found a nuisance and that is superglue. I have used it in many situations and 1 use is attaching an eye to a blank before whipping or attaching a tip to a snooker cue then I find the problem. The next time I come to use the glue I can't get the top off , it's solid or otherwise unusable. Is there any way this can be avoided or is everyone using a secret glue that they don't want me to know about. ( - : Any Ideas please. The wife likes your 007 voice by the way.Cheers,Spud.

      Hi Spud,
It's great to hear that at 70 you are starting to tye your own flies and that you enjoy watching and learning from my videos, I really do appreciate you letting me know as it does mean a lot to me...The secret is to buy superglue that comes with a brush as you can use it like you would if you used nail varnish, but I'm sure your good lady will tell you about this...The only reason I do use the superglue is that it comes with the brush so I have attached a link to the Fulling Mill version which is excellent though you will have to cut some of the bristles away as there's too many and it will also make it easier to apply a little at a time...I would recommend sitting the bottle on a piece of bluetack as this will stop the bottle from falling over...
Many thanks again for the kind words...
      All the very best Davie

Davie, beautiful fly! Could you do a Gaspe Shadow? I've been seeing this variant and wanting to see how it's tied from a professional's point of view!

Beautiful fly. I am in awe of your thread control. I try so hard but I just can't get there. I do well if I take my time. I have a chance to buy a number 1 quality Egyptian Goose, and a Timminicks Terragon (spelling) also number 1 for a total of 200.00 USD. I know there are a lot of feathers on the goose that could sub for large wood duck, but I also know they are used in Classic salmon flies. Is it worth buying a two whole skins at this price. A friend of mine is going out of business and has them for me if I want them. If you have time. All the best, Sean

      Hi Sean,
I have to be honest with you I haven't bought materials for tying classic flies for a long time so I've not kept up to date with the prices... I've attached a link to a website that sells full skins so this may be able to help you...

      Morning knut1111213,
I hate to see these mid-rolling ads myself..TH-cam did change the default setting to all my videos which included adding mid-rolling ads, I have reset this to the way it was which only happens with new videos...I have started to reset many videos but not them all as it would take me a few hours or even a day or two to do this as not every video needs this done, as far as I believe it's to do with the length of the video...I have done the one in your comment so it should only have one ad at the beginning and you should be able to skip it too..
      All the very best Davie

@@DavieMcPhail thanks for the reply Davie 😃, love the videos and you are an absolute inspiration ! Trying my hand at bunched and split wings at the moment and eehh well... need to do a few more 😂.
I think TH-cam do this to make us want to subscribe to youtube premium to be honest.
Thank you again for replying and for explaining and even fixing the issue on this video. I do understand that doing it to all yours must be a herculean task, as many videos as you have made it’s probably a full time job for someone for a month 😃
I have fished since I was a boy, but have only started tying a year ago and as far as instruction on how to tie and make the flies look presentable, be it to fish or fellow anglers, you reign supreme 😃 only ever use Oliver Edwards Dvd’s as an alternative.
      Kind regards

Sorry for longwinded answer. Read «Flyfishing by JR Hartley» and decided as a project to do all the flies in it. Working using patterns in TE Pritt’s North Country flies, so your how to’s on these have been invaluable. Salmon flies are positively relaxing compared. 😂
