    DUDDDDDE!!!! You're amazing!!! I have been looking at how to change the DNS for months, and everyone was saying control panel, control panel. Four minutes into your video, you solved my problem. I am a small company that works with special needs children, and many of our projects are bootstrapped, AKA figuring it out on our own, because money is tight. I can now externally access my Synology.

    THANK YOU! I was able to get my device working as a DNS server in order to have my DDNS address work on my local network. This will help me a lot with setting up and testing my reverse proxy on the NAS and enables me to use the DDNS name when setting up apps on my phone. It's honestly maddening how many posts I saw with this issue where there wasn't enough detail for me to get it working.

    Super informative - thanks for all your videos SpaceRex. Personally, I am wanting to use my Synology as an Email Server, however, I do not currently have a Domain Name or a Static IP. Synology stated that I get 1 Free Synology Domain, however, I cannot find an article on how to set this up - do you have a tutorial on how to do this? Also, are there any Synology Apps that can be used to handle a Dynamic IP Address scenario for the Email Server purpose? If so, do you have any recommendations or Tutorials in this regard? Thanks so much for your time.

    Hello, I am new in Synology Nas. I am using a Nighthawk wifi router to my computer and my Synology nas is plugged-in directly to my wifi router. My question is how can I connect my synology nas directly to dns server or use a domain host name to open my synology nas if I`m using a wifi router (not on Ethernet). I hope you get what I mean. Because I don`t want to use always the quickconnect to open my synology nas.

    It's totally correct that it's called DHCP Name Server, because that's what get's delivered to devices via DHCP and has nothing to do with the DNS servers you've set up for your USG/UDM. The only thing they could've done is call it "DHCP DNS"

    • @SpaceRexWill
      @SpaceRexWill  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I realize that it is over the DHCP protocol for setting the DNS servers on each connected machine.

    I setup the DNS sever and all seems to be running fine, except anything associated with Amazon/Amazon devices. I could put the devices in a separate VLAN, but then I still run into the problem with clients (my wife) not being able to load amazon.com (probably a good thing now that I think about it).
    I have forwarding enabled and set to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 on the server, I also have these and name servers 2 and 3 on my router. When I shut the server off I have no problem, since it is bypassing the local name server for 2 or 3.
    I also did a nslookup on amazon.com with the server running and it returns ip addresses.
    Thoughts?

    • @echobravo625
      @echobravo625 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, forwarding is enabled and all other domains work perfectly, it just seems that anything associated with Amazon (devices, apps, or site) is having issues.

    • @echobravo625
      @echobravo625 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I figured it out, I had VPN connection established with another server, forgot it is setup to connect at startup. Once I terminated that connection it works flawlessly. Didn’t even think to start there since it was only Amazon services that had issues.

    Another great video; thank you so much, you are one of the best sources for "how to make the most of your Synology".
    One question
    At 6mins 22 seconds into your video, th-cam.com/video/knD5TjXGBqA/w-d-xo.html , you speak about "Maxmum cache size" for the DNS. Do you know how many bytes each each look up takes or what is the maximun number of look ups 10MB cache will store?
    As I ask this I realise that the answer is "It depends"; "www.bbc.co.uk" would take up less space than "www.A_Really_Really_Really_Really_Long_Name.com".

    • @SpaceRexWill
      @SpaceRexWill  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is going to be something that you would probably have to look up in a Synology White Paper as it depends even more on how it is stored and indexed. 10MB of just IP addresses and hostnames is going to be millions. But a lot of the data is used for Indexing so that the values can be quickly looked up
      TL:DR; no idea
