This is indeed screamingly unjust, yet a non-issue in our public debate.
Thank you for pointing out the hypocrisy

As for Austria, I agree that conscription there is actually stupid, quite useless and definetally should be abolished since Austria is surrounded by peaceful neighborhood. But in Finland and the Baltics it is basicslly needed since all 4 of those countries are states with a small population which are in the neighborhood of Russia. Or, how else should they keep a propper number of soldiers?

Can’t speak much for other countries, but at least for Finland you mock the common argument of ”conscription is a cost effective way of defending a country with a small population” but give no proper alternative. I understand you are against conscription but if you are going to mock an argument I’d expect a solution other than ”conscription is unfair”. The common argument is that a volunteer army could do the work, but that’d leave us with such a small army we’d have no chance in hell of protecting our large borders.
As for gender equality you do need people at the homefront maintaining some resemblance of an economy, taking care of the old, sick, and injured, maintaining production, etc. If the majority of both genders are fighting on the front a lot of those homefront sectors collapse or are impaired.
In a perfect world conscription nor militaries would be necessary, but unfortunately we don’t live in that world.
